Don't Buy This has got to be the worst product ever marketed. They have migrated to the cloud while attempting to apply mobile app technology. I don't think they know what they are doing. No one answers the support phone. They say leave a number and we will call back. They never do. Try typing a help note to internet support. Click the send button and a blank white page shows up. One has no idea if the plea for help was ever sent. It doesn't work. Don't waste your money. 1Five Stars I would not recommend this monitor. I have only had this for a few months & twice it has gone offline & not connected automatically. I have had to manually reconnect this monitor but what good it that since I bought this monitor to use in a home that I will be away from for 7 months at a time. If it loses power or loses connection with my modem & then does not reconnect it then becomes useless. The last time it lost connection it was easy to reconnect by just unplugging & plugging back in but if we are not in the house what good is that since no one is home to do it. I do not know why the unit lost connection with the modem but it doesn't really matter. 1Works well, but beware cost of Enhanced Monitoring Service The system is working fine after the very-helpful LaCrosse support team was able to reset the base unit. I'm not sure what the original problem was, but it almost appears that the base was originally associated with a different user.I was a bit careless and managed to drop one of the sensors and crack the glass(?) over the temperature/humidity display. Fortunately, the sensor still transmits data to the base station and I don't need the "local" display of temperature/humidity.I'm using one sensor in a crawlspace and was able to use an extension cable (NOT recommended by LaCrosse) to extend the probe cable about 40'. Now I'm able to use a single sensor to monitor the temperature in the middle of the crawlspace AND at a location near the outside wall (where it may be colder). My main complaint is with the cost of the Enhanced Monitoring Service. Until recently, apparently, this service was provided for a year at no cost. Now that service is only for 3 months. MORE UPSETTING, the cost is about $12/year PER SENSOR - NOT PER BASE STATION! I have two sensors, which means the Enhanced Monitoring Service will cost about $24/year. (There is a small discount if 3 years of service is purchased.) I think I'll go with just the basic service, at least for now... 4unreliable Power-cycled the gateway and can't get it to work anymore. Not responding to factory default steps. All my sensors are pretty much useless. 1Decided to purchase despite negative reviews. I have only had this product a few days, so this review is not based off longevity. I was a little worried about the amount of negative reviews, but decided to purchance anyway because I couldn't find anything else like this for such a reasonable price. I currently have the prob monitoring my chest freezer. So far I have had zero issues, and I love the data that it produces. You can select how often you want your prob to communicate with your gateway. I currently have the default 15min selected, but it ranges from 5-60min. I would imagine you would save battery life by selecting 60min intervals. They also have an alert system that will email/text when when your selected temp ranges are exceeded, the battery is running low, or your gateway is offline. You get this service for free at first, but I believe you have to pay if you want it to continue. I doubt I will pay for the service after it expires. If you are dealing with sensitive materials I would imagine this is an important feature, but I bought this for peace of mine when we are gone on extended trips. After the service is up you can still remote monitor, you just won't receive alerts. I will update this review if anything changes.UPDATE: July 11th, 2018It's still working well, but at times It will go silent for a few hours. I'm not sure what the issue is, but the product has lost a star for that. I know it's not an issue with my network. I would say this 3 hour blackout is happening a few times a week now. We will see if this product lasts.UPDATE: 7/20/18Power went out yesterday. After the power went out the system never reconnected. I let it set for 24hrs, but it never reconnected. I had to manually reset the system for it to reconnect. This is a huge flaw for a product like this. I bought this product to monitor my freezer while I'm away. If it doesn't reconnect automatically, then this is nearly useless. I changed my rating to reflect my most recent findings. It's still better than nothing, but this is a huge issue.10/18/18Issues have resolved themselves. It has been over a month since I have had an issue. I added another star. I'm still not sure I would trust this with really sensitive materials, but it works for me. 4LaCrosse Unit did not work for us We bought this unit for a 2nd home on Cape Cod. We installed in mid January 2017. We uninstalled in March 2017. I don't know about anywhere else but the Cape had a lot of power outages/internet outages this winter. The unit alerted me and then stopped on February 27, 2017. We did not get any alerts and went down to the Cape (3 1/2 hr drive) in March. The app said the battery for the sensor was at 100%. When I could not get the units to respond after rebooting multiple times, I changed the sensor batteries and it began to work again. We pulled the unit as we didn't feel that the unit was reliable enough to trust it for a temperature alert. We also have a freeze alarm connected through Verizon phone service but were hoping to stop using that. I called LaCrosse to discuss (not looking to get my $$ back) and the technical support person said "Oh okay". Never asked why we stopped or even expressed an "I'm sorry it didn't work out for you". 2RV with a small dog Very happy with this product. I live in my RV and I have a small dog. When I'm at work in the summer and I have the A/C on and I can always check the temperature for a piece of mind. I use the alert feature as well set to notify me at my set warning temperature via text and email. And it works! I went a step further and have this set up along with my internet router to switch over to reserve power. If the electricity ever goes off I can still get readings remotely, monitor the temperature, and take action if needed. We're in Texas heat. (Remember, if you lose electricity you will need a way to keep this device operating and sending signal via internet to your phone) 5Perfect sensor with mobile app and alerts for different application This sensor works pretty good compared to other brand that we tried. It also depends on the application that you are using it for. Personally I used it to monitor the temperature of a fridge for temperature sensitive products. You install the little gateway to your router with a cable without any software installation just by pushing and syncing buttons for both the room sensor and the gateway. the long wired probe is left in any area where you need to monitor, and the app will updates every 5 mins or more if you set it up. It will show you the current temp for both sensors and also a humidity reading. it has graph for daily or weekly and a table that shows the 5 mins reading for up to 2 days, may be more if you select a longer interval but I haven't tested. And the best part is it will give you alerts by text or email if the temperature falls out of the range that you set it up. The alerts is free for couple of months but it's not expensive to subscribe on yearly basis if you really need alerts for important stuff. 5Don't waste your money The initial setup was really easy, I'll give them that. It worked fine for a couple of weeks until I had an internet outage. (I have satellite internet and lost connection in a heavy snowstorm). Although the connection was restored, the LaCrosse Alerts never woke up again. The app showed battery was fine, connection was fine, but wouldn't report temperatures. Since the whole point of the device is remote monitoring, having it fail due to temporary loss of internet renders it pretty useless. But it gets worse. I sent an email to tech support 5 days ago with detailed information about the situation and still have not heard from them. I finally got home where I could access the sensor and gateway. Both show normal state, but the sensor won't report. I eventually un-registered both the sensor and the gateway, did a factory reset, and re-registered them. The registration completed, the gateway and sensor appear in my account, but the sensor is still not reporting temperatures even though it displays temperatures on the small LCD panel. I'd call customer service, but it's Saturday and they can't be bothered manning their phones on weekends - a bit inconsiderate for a consumer product. 1Great product and you get to talk to real amaricans from Wisconsin if you need help I had excellent customer service help in installing the product. We leave our home from time to time during the winter and I always worry about the furnace quitting and pipes freezing up ( it happened once and we had damage). This cool device is perfect for warning you that the furnace is not heating the house ad you can set it to text and e-mail your phone what the temperature is. I had a problem with the setup and I called Lacrosse ( which is in Lacrosse, Wisconsin BTW), and got help form a real cheesehead from Wi. Incidentally, the temperature probe also comes with a humidity probe so you can also set it up to warn you if you have a wet floor ( flood). 5
