    Decent opener I can't live without this item. Easy to use. When a jar or bottle seems impossible to open, this little gadget really works. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars because it replaced a similar opener that I had for years. My old one finally gave out. Unfortunately, when I compared the two, I found my new one was not as well made. I doubt it will last as long as my older model. 4Does not work. It doesn't work at all. Didn't know there was a time limit to return, as this as garbage. DO NOT BUY! 1Saving grace for arthritis sufferers! I have arthritis and also a demyelenating neurological disorder that causes pain and weakness in hands. I have had trouble for years opening jars and bottles. My husband (love him dearly) bought this for me and it has been a lifesaver. I have used this to open pickle jars, jam, soda bottles and even my water bottles. It's adjustable and uses little metal teeth (which I was opposed to previously) but if you secure it nicely on the lid it works spectacularly! No more frustrating nights home alone not being able to open things...this device has been great for me and I recommend it! Keep in mind, there is a crank handle to turn on the top of it to adjust the teeth to meet the diameter of the lid, so if your pain is too bad or you have loss of dexterity in your hands this may not work for you....but it's worth a try. I was a little scared of the twist knob on the top, but have not had any trouble with it. 5This thing is great! This tool is fantastic. Due to carpal tunnel and some arthritis, I'm having a hard time opening jars and bottles. It works on everything from water/soda bottles to pickle jars to laundry detergent. Simple to use, just place it over the top and tighten the lever, and open. The only time it isn't so easy to use is opening small jars, because it's difficult to get a grip on the jar itself so you can use force on the lid. Still, it's awesome, highly recommend it. 5I'm the guy people hand jars to... ...and I can usually muscle them off, but it can be really hard sometimes. Nice to have this beauty to fall back on if necessary. It can fit any jar I can find in my kitchen. It has been foolproof at fitting and gripping lids. Powering them off with the long handle is a breeze. I have older relatives that absolutely need a good jar opener and I will be ordering for them. I'll be there myself in a few years, so I'll be ready. I also like the "jar pop" style opener, which is quicker/easier to use but does not fit as wide a variety of lids. Good to have both. But if you are only going to have one, this is it. Indispensable tool for every kitchen.One improvement: add markings to tell people which way to twist the knob to tighten the teeth against the lid and which way to twist the handle to loosen the lid from the jar. Both are the standard (clockwise to tighten, opposite to loosen) Lots of people have a bit of confusion over this, and since you have two things and two different directions, it is especially likely here. 5Also it takes a lid that's pretty much welded on and removes it so easily I gotta give it 5 stars, cause it works on every container I've used it on, and hasn't broke. Everything from large pickle jars to small water bottle caps is what this can open. Because of this, I don't over tighten the adjustment when clamping onto a lid and it still opens a very tight lid as long as you remember "righty tighty, lefty loosy" The way the metal teeth swivel, it seems it's designed to actually tighten on the lid as you turn counter clockwise. Trying to tighten the lid (clockwise) will cause the teeth to slide. Pretty good design. So please don't over tighten and risk breaking an amazing gadget. I guess they could have used more durable materials, but obviously the cost would go way up.Edit: I will say though, even though it is made of plastic, it's pretty thick plastic, and doesn't feel flimsy. 5Can't squeeze? Get this tool ! This is an excellent tool for me. I have a lot of pain in my fingers when I try to grab and twist off lids from jars. Ah the missed days of youth! What I like the most is that I don't have to squeeze - which is the action that triggers my pain. The picture of the item is old as the item now has a larger knob that you turn to tighten the tool on to a jar. Then by pushing the handle, the lid twists off. Perfect too for those that have lost that strong squeezing ability. I love it. Oh, and I did read the review of the one person who broke their jar opener - who must be awfully strong to break it - and who most likely didn't need the tool in the first place. I see no event that could happen to break this tool. That's just what I think. 5Versatile and Effective Jar Opener This is a very versatile jar opener that, unlike so many others, expands with a twist of the knob to accommodate larger jar lids. Once applied and tightened, the handle provides great leverage to open even the most stubborn of jars. I tried to open a wide-mouthed pickle jar by hand and no success after many tries which included running the lid under hot water and knocking it against a granite countertop. Opening the jar had to wait until this handy unit arrived. Once again, I tried to open the jar by hand without success. Then I applied the Kuhn Rikon to the pickle jar, tightened it against the edges of the lid, grabbed the handle and then......voila! It opened with one nudge. 5Excellent: for Mom, grandma, maybe even me. I was preparing a care package for good ol' grandma, and thought some functional things would go well along with the yummy treats and requisite photos of her favorite grandchild.This jar opener worked like a charm. In fact, I tested it out for a couple days before giving it to her, and I ended up buying one for my Mom too. It is easy to use, and needs very little effort to open tight jars. For my 82 year old granny and 87 year old grandpa, who, at times, had to abandon a recipe or forgo a certain tasty treat because of too-tight lids, this has given them new independence and confidence in the kitchen.Grandma loves this little gadget, and is full of praise that it can handle not only regular wide-mouth jar lids, but even smaller ones like ketchup bottles. Despite both of them suffering from arthritis, they are able to turn the knob easily, and the long handle provides great leverage to easily pop open even the most stubborn of lids.It is an amazing product not only for the elderly, but even my middle-aged Mom loves it. Heck, even I love it. I intend to purchase the Kuhn Rikon Deluxe Gripper Jar Opener, Black for myself in the near future: perfect for when the husband isn't available for jar-opening! 5No more frustration with senior hand vs jars I've had a few jar-assist gadgets but nothing works like this. Just center over the lid, turn the wing screw on top, then use the handle to give a good turn. I remember from my physics class many decades ago that a lever (the handle) increases the power of the push/pull and by golly it sure does! One caution: do not over tighten the screw. It can actually compress the sides of the lid and then the lid binds harder to the jar. Just snug is all you need! 5
