Customer Reviews

Popping my lid over this! I had purchased another safety lid can opener and struggled with it from the first day until, in less than a year, it gave out totally. It was a recognized brand-name. When I went to purchase a new one, I read the consumer reports on what to look for, and found my last can opener was very poorly rated. This opener was very highly rated, and it is royally deserved. It's hard to believe this is the same tool as the last one, because this works so well. When I think how I struggled so long with the last one, it is surprising that I would have looked to replace it with the same item, but I really like the clean edges and no cut fingers. This is not as expensive as the last one I bought. It's a can opener, folks, and it does a terrific job. Simple tool, but it's nice not to have to fiddle with it to get it to do its job. With the old one, I'd have to maybe go around the can twice to get a solid cut, and then really tug to get it to remove the lid. This operation is a smooth, once around the lid, and pops right off.If you want something that works, this is the real deal. 5Interesting Product I needed a new can opener since the handle fell off of my old one. I was tired of buying junk. I had one picked out with good reviews and my husband talked me into trying this one. It is very cool that the can opener never touches your food and I know the blades on this can opener won't rust like other ones have. I don't need to wash it like I did with my other ones. You can't drain food in the can using the lid which is OK except for tuna but still not a big deal. My only real issue is it is a little hard to make it turn. If you have trouble with your hands or any type of arthritis I think it will be very difficult to use. It's OK. I'm not in awe of it like some other reviews that I read. I will keep it until it dies but next time I will go back to an old fashioned one that is easier to turn...unless they improve this one. 3Great modern opener, just a bit tricky to learn Bought this to replace an older, two-handle KR opener that had worn out. Took just a little getting used to, and it definitely needs a little more hand and arm effort than the clamper type, but works perfectly on 99% of our cans and is just a tad easier overall to use than the older one. We do run into some cans - tuna being a common one - where failure to use a lot of lifting pressure will half-remove the lid, and then you're stuck - further attempts won't finish the job and pliers or the old cut-through opener has to be found. But I love the no-cut openers for many reasons and tend to use them even on pull-off lids. (For one thing, it doesn't leave a lip that traps contents in the can!) 4they leave a sliver of sharp metal if you go over the same spot twice, which inevitably you must to know you've gone all the way around, then this cuts a small sliver of metal that bends out, ready to poke you. you can easily push it back down and it won't be a bother. i've read these dull faster than the traditional openers, so if you open a lot of cans, maybe it won't be worth it to you, since it's more expensive with a shorter life. but as an occasional can opener, i think it's worth it to be able to use the can itself for short term storage, rather than pulling out an extra jar. 4I'm Sold Did I really need a newfangled, semi-pricey can opener? It turns out I did! The smooth clean results of opening a metal can with this tool is SO much more civilized than the old jagged health hazards we've all been used to.Bonus: Don't use the whole can? -- just pop a recycled plastic container lid on the nice smooth can top and put it away for tomorrow. 5This stays clean Since this works by basically prying open the connection between the top of the can and the sides, it doesn't cut down into the food/liquid inside the can. That means it stays clean!I gave up on my trusty SwingAway after many, many years because, in spite of taking care, rust finally did it in. Traditional can opener blades get wet and dirty as they puncture through the top of the can, and you'll spend more time caring for the can opener than opening the can, if you want it to last. This opener doesn't touch the can contents. Go around once, then turn the knob backwards a bit to release the grip of the opener, then (use the little side pliers on the opener, if you like) lift off the top. Open can, clean can opener. 5A Purchase You will not Regret!! The best can opener I've ever owned. It's like magic. No fumbling around to connect blade to can; you simply lay the small peg near center of the top of the can and start turning until you "feel" it complete the cut. Then turn it counter-clockwise to release.. It automatically catches and cuts open the can without ever making contact with the food. You're left with a neatly cut, but blunt "lid". Pull the lid off with the build in lid catch, and voila! I'll never buy a traditional can opener again. I love this product and highly recommend it if you are uncertain. It is a purchase I guarantee you will not regret. 5Open question I just ordered this to replace a broken Rosle can opener that I liked a lot. That lasted a little more than 2 years - for the price I felt I should have gotten more service out of it. We use can openers quite infrequently, maybe once a week on average. The Rosle opens a can in a very unique way - something I had never seen with the traditional can openers. It cuts the top lid off entirely, below the lip of the can, from the outside. There are no jagged edges and this was the draw. Kuhn-Rikon is an appliance/gadget company from Switzerland- I have their pressure cooker and decided to give their product a shot, which cuts in the same way as the Rosle. On the handle it says Kuhn-Rikon, Switzerland but the opener packaging says made in China - just to be clear on the origins of the product. It is well made - as well as the Rosle, and the crank is large making it easy to use because you can generate a good deal more of torque. The negative - it is not near as compact as the Rosle - this Kuhn-Rikon opener is the size of a traditional can opener. It also works differently in some ways - The can opener sits flat on top of the can as opposed to hanging off the side of the can.Refer to the picture of the instructions that I uploaded for this product to get a feel for how it works. From the standpoint of mechanism and size I give it a three - sure takes up more real estate in the draw. I hope the longevity is better than the Rosle - once I use it a bit more I will update/revise this review. After the Rosle broke I waited a while and then ended up ordering this from Amazon - in the interim I needed to open three cans of coconut milk and didn't have an opener - I rushed over to the dollar store and bought a traditional opener (for a buck), also made in China, that got the job done. Not sure how much value for money I am getting out of the $50+ I have now spent on high end can openers!! 3Safety Can Opener Kuhn Rikon Auto Deluxe Safety Lid Lifter: I ve used one of these for 5 years. It finally wore out and failed to cut cleanly. This new one is identical and works great. This is by far the safest way to open a can of peas, carrots, etc. There are NO SHARP EDGES. Really. It s hard to believe but it works. The can is safe. The top is safe. Yes, I am satisfied and would recommend it. 5sturdy, well-made, easy to use We've owned several electric can openers over the years. They're messy; the blade needs to be cleaned regularly and eventually rusts. I don't like clutter on my countertops, so a hand-held opener that I can toss in the drawer was a perfect solution. I bought the Kuhn Rikon Auto Deluxe based on reviews. It's a sturdy, well-made product and the red color makes it easy to spot in the drawer. When I bought it I thought the Lid Lifter was a silly gimmick, something I wouldn't be using. My husband was the first to use the opener and was soon cursing it. I tried it myself and it didn't seem to be working. I couldn't lift the lid off and the can looked like it was still sealed. I checked the instructions and mystery solved..the can had been opened the whole time; we just needed to use the Lid Lifter to remove the lid. Turns out this "silly gimmick" is a very necessary part of the design. We've had the opener for 4 months and are very happy with it, never a problem with slivers or sharp edges. We're seniors and both agree it's easier to use than an electric opener (even for my husband, who's a lefty). Since it doesn't touch the contents of the can, the opener stays clean. Though probably not necessary, I do occasionally hand wash it. 5
