Customer Reviews

Highly recommended to mask office noise First I will confess that ... Highly recommended to mask office noiseFirst I will confess that I am not an audiophile who is searching for headphones which exceed the frequency range of human hearing but rather just a regular listener of music. I purchased these headphones to mask out nearby conversations in my office for which they do work excellently. I play some classical music on Pandora at low volume which combined with the very snug fitting, yet comfortable wrap around ear muffs masks out all of the office sounds. As a caution to readers who do not know otherwise, the super expensive Bose type of noise cancelling headphones cannot cancel office conversations. For $300, they can only cancel out continuous noise such as fans and jet engines. For $40, these Koss earphones do much more.PROS:* Great value....more noise suppression at 1/8 the price of Bose* Cancels office noise when used with low volume music* Music sounds great* Sturdy construction* Comfortable yet snug fitting ear muffs* "Macho" look of big "KOSS" letters on ear muffs....much better than office dweebs with wimpy looking ear budsCONS:* None found thus far.I love this product and would recommend it to anyone wanting to eliminate office chatter. 5Crap product guaranteed to break and cover you in oil... Crap product.I've gone through 3 pairs of these over the years. The oil filled ear gaskets are poorly made. They will break and leak stinky oil in your ears and down your neck, guaranteed. This last pair broke in less then six months. Contacted Koss with a warranty claim expecting them to back their product. Their response = You can buy replacements. Gee thanks.Avoid these at all cost. 1Good for radio DJs I'm a college radio DJ, and I was looking to acquire some on-air headphones to replace my previous pair that broke in half. Even though these are designed for metal-detector use, I gotta say I definitely get great use out of them. I'll list out the pros and cons real quick:PROS: The equalization is pretty flat, so it makes listening to vocal audio levels pretty easy and crisp. The sound/noise reduction is actually pretty on point, and if I keep both cups on my ears I am completely isolated from any external noise. (I typically do air breaks with only one cup on my ear, though). I REALLY like the volume control knob on the ear cup. If I'm talking into the mic, it's a lot easier to adjust the on ear cup volume than to re-orient my body and find the headphone level on our console. Love the 8 ft cord.CONS: Not good for music. Like at all. No bass response, and it'll get clippy with high levels. Not extremely comfortable for long periods of time. They are tight headphones on the head, so taking them off kind of feels like popping your ears if you've had them on for a while. They're also super ugly. I wouldn't be caught dead walking down the street with these on. But I should say that I like the rugged look of them when I'm in the studio, they feel well made. 4passive noise cancellation headphones... I really like these headphones, and this pair is actually the second pair I've owned. I don't recall exactly what happened to the first.Neither a pro or a con, these are big headphones, for me that's fine -- but they may be too big for others.Pros:- rugged construction- passive noise cancellation- comfortable- nice long cordCons:- not as loud as one would expect (if it weren't that they are great at passive noise cancellation this would be a bigger issue, they are loud enough for me, but if you are expecting big sound from big headphones, you will be disappointed).- volume knob on left earphone is low quality (tinkering with the knob will make a sound like one is rubbing a microphone against something, not a huge issue if you can set it and forget it.)EDIT: Lost a star. With age the volume knob is increasingly more and more problematic (maybe this is what happened to my first pair?). There have been times where even brushing against the volume knob meant that the left speaker went out completely and I had to tinker with it for 10-20 seconds to get it back to where I wanted it. I assume this is an issue because of cheap parts, electrical connectivity and dust. I've had them for nearly 2 years, if I knew what parts to buy I'd try to fix them up right because they are super-durable and have great passive noise cancellation. So yeah, the options are, buy something that sounds better but will fall apart in little time or buy these, where the electronics are the weak point. I'd pay double for better electronics in this housing! 3Great for NASCAR race fans We attend NASCAR races a few times a year and use these headphones with our scanners and they are great! We compared them to our old headphones and the noise cancelling quality that these have are just amazing. You can hear the conversations over the scanner so much easier and the padding on the ears and headband makes them comfortable to wear. They are easy to adjust. I think the cord is a little too long for what we use it for, but it does have ample length if you need it. 5Good sound reproduction. Good acoustic isolation. Good value for the price. My all time favorite headset was a Koss Pro4AA, which I bought in about 1972. I have been searching for a true replacement for a long time. I tried a Koss Pro4AA Titanium, and was greatly disappointed. Primarily because they have very poor acoustic isolation even though they are a sealed over the ear unit. I have also tried a vast number of wired and wireless earbud units. The best one I have found was a KLIPSCH R5 neckband unit, which also fails the isolation requirement. All this brings me to the Koss QZ-99.This unit reproduces the high end of the spectrum as well as any unit I have tried. My test playlist sounds the way it is supposed to sound in that range. If I has an equalizer on my iPad to pump up the bass for my preference I would rate this unit the equal of my Pro4AA in its prime. Why do I say that? This unit provides acoustic isolation equal to that provided by my deluxe shooting ear protectors. I can hear my music or my ball game, without nagging my wife to turn down her mystery on Hallmark, or her shopping spree on QVC.This unit is well constructed and well made, read that as heavy. They seem like they will be in it for the long haul. Yet they are well padded in the ear cushions and the headband. I like these headphones. I think you will also. 5Cheers for product life! My first pair of Koss headphones, i had for over 35yrs! The only reason i had to replace them was due to having to manipulate cord by ear to 'connect' , the sound was still awsome. I was so glad to see the company still in business, thanks so much for a quality product! I will do without before i constantly replace a product under 5yrs.It's irresponsible for companies to shorten product lifespan for environment sake. I may be dead before i buy another set of headphones, but i will surely by your product for friends and family and recommed so too. Thank you for customers who will maintain their integrity in this throw away world , we are still here 5Has no Bass even with boosting The headphones are rather comfy and can be pretty loud but they lack and semblance of bass. I'd recommend the if you don't need bass to enjoy your music.Pros:ComfyNoise isolating (but no active noise cancellation)Built in adjustable volumeCons:No BassAll in all the bass was a deal breaker for me and I ended up buying some corsair headphones for $10 more, Corsair HS60 specifically since it comes with a USB DAC to enable some useful EQ settings. 3Excellent choice for racing fans. WOW - quality out of the box! First thing I noticed was how comfortable they fit around my head and over my ears. The top piece is well cushioned also. They have a nice weight to them, but are not heavy. All material nice to the touch and feels durable. I plan on using these at the 100th running of the Indy 500 paired with a Baofeng radio also purchased at Amazon. To listen with a scanner, you need a headphone that will work in MONO. The QZ-99 has a selector that works great. Sound is excellent. A quick test indicates excellent voice quality. My neighbor was mowing his lawn... I could hear the lawnmower... but it was more like a kids toy.I expect to get many long years out of these. 5GREAT FOR NASCAR. my friends have switched to these after using them against other products. These are high-quality. From the packaging to the product, i was impressed. Durable. The cord is long but curly so it doesnt get in the way. I use these at NASCAR races. I can hear everything perfectly. From the drivers to the broadcast, they are much better than any other headphones i ever ever wore at a NASCAR race. I love that there is a volume control on the headset. My only complaint is they cannot be adjusted but even that isnt so bad. If your head is abnormally large, you probably already know you have to be selective about headwear. 5
