Customer Reviews

Might get you through a pull or three before it falls apart. Only used it a handful of times, the curve of the tape only makes it suitable for specific instances, usually better off using straight fiberglass rod types.Did manage to get a line to a couple tough spots. Unfortunately, every time I used it it got harder to feed and harder to retract. I never got anywhere near using the full 50' length, but less than a dozen times doing 10-15' tops and I can't get it retracted again. And if I could, it'll probably never feed out again.Maybe I'll be able to take it apart, realign things, maybe shorten it up to take off some pressure. It may live again. Just keep in mind if you want an easy to use fish tape that can be part of your tool collection for more than one project, this isn't it. 2EXTREMELY hard to unroll. Reel is WAY TOO SMALL. The only reason I gave this fish tape any stars at all, is that it does work once you get it unrolled. However, the reel this tape is on is WAY too small for the length of the fish tape. It is extremely tight to unroll, and you will have blisters by the time you are done. Once you get about 25 feet of the tape out, it works just ok. The tape itself is very dirty, and leaves black residue on everything. I would unroll this out in a garage, and then clean it with windex or some kind of degreaser, before I ever used it. 2Great compact fishing wire just don't get it wet! Hello, experienced reviewer here. I've been buying online and off amazon for years and I always research products before buying them.I'm a contract electrician so I needed a fishing wire to use on residential properties. I wanted something small because I already have to carry around several bags of tools and I also wanted a metal wire so I could bend it into useful angles (ask any electrician what I mean). This product met those requirements and worked great for a couple years. The reason I'm giving it 4 stars is that it has rusted over now and is quite difficult to uncoil, however it still works once I have uncoiled it.Final advise: If you can keep it dry this product is great, definitely would buy again. 4beware, fish tape may not retract back into tool. I purchased this tool to run speaker wire in my house. I bought the 50' b/c why not. if 25' is good then 50' is twice as good right? The problem was that there was so much fish tape wound up in this tool that once i got 20 feet of it out, i was unable to get the fish tape back into the tool. It got kinked or something and wouldn't budge. In the end, i had to throw it away b/c i wasn't going to store the tool with 20 of the tape hanging out the end. what a waste. 1but I would still highly recommend wearing a pair of leather gloves when handling this ... Worked well in an industrial environment fishing some CAT5 through an HMI support arm (about 20ft all told). At first it seemed a bit awkward but once you get the hang of it, it works well. The way this reel is designed, you can hold the center ring and use the handle to actually "push", or outfeed the cable into your conduit (so you don't have to actually push the steel by hand). The tape itself was sufficiently lubed and the sharp edges broken, but I would still highly recommend wearing a pair of leather gloves when handling this (if for not other reason than to keep the grease off your hands). The unit was surprisingly compact so it stored easily in the bottom of my Lista to have on hand anytime I needed. 4This item gets low marks from me. It looked like a promising solution to send this fish tape down the chase from the ceiling to basement. At about 10', it began binding and was very difficult to dispense. After that I had to constantly tinker with the spool to get it to let out more tape. The tape retained its coiled shape and got easily bound. I ended up getting hung up on something, and unable to get it disengaged. Poorly marked, difficult to dispense, this will be my first and only use of the device. I'm going to take a pair of tin snipes and cut it and throw it away. I probably would have done better with any other technology I might have tried. 1Strong, Flexible and Mis-understood. I love this tool. Ran thick ethernet cable through 6 feet of buried plastic pipe with two 90 degree turns without the slightest issue. Read the instructions on how to rewind the tape and you will not be cussing it like some other reviewers - the obvious direction is not the right direction to rewind. 5Works with a little patience. The hardest part about using this Fish Tape is winding it all back up.Pro tips:1. Do not ever pull the tape from the orange handle. Always pull from the tape itself.2. If you are having trouble winding it, pull the entire length of tape out of the wall, conduit etc. Then rewind by holding the orange and pushing the tape itself back in gently.3. If it gets stuck, pull the tape back out until it easily moved back and forth and then rewind with the above suggestion 4Right tool for the job. I should have bought one of these a long time ago. This was relatively cheap compared to the grief I have been through trying to use tie wire to cheat my way around one. I used this to fish speaker wires through my ceiling. Nothing is perfect but this certainly beats the bailing wire. Also, I bound this thing up a couple of times before I finally read the instructions. I suggest reading before you use it so you don't bind up the spring. It is easy enough to fix but you have to feed the whole thing out and then reel it back in the right way. 5Amazing for running speaker and electrical wire! Better than a fish rod! I have been doing a project in my house running wires for some speakers through existing walls. I'm running four overhead speakers and 6 speakers for the surround sound. The walls have insulation, so it has been especially challenging. This fish tape has been fantastic! It has enough rigidity to push it through difficult areas while staying straight, but also enough flexibility to get around corners or other obstacles. I also bought a fish rod to run wires, but I have found that the tape is way better for what I'm using it for. I tried using the rod but eventually just switched to the tape. I have ran many cables with this thing so far with little problem. Some people are complaining about it getting jammed up when retracting/releasing. There have been times where it feels a little tight, but I just followed the directions and I haven't had a problem. I've had it fully unwound and rewound multiple times without an issue. 5
