Customer Reviews

I am an old gamer and use it every day... I am an old gamer and I use my computer at least 8 hours every day and have for the past 40 years. I bought this keyboard 5 years ago (lost my 20/15 vision 20 years ago at 45). Unless they have changed the manufacturing process and the keyboard is built with less material, this is a sturdy and wonderful keyboard. I have never had a problem and I use it daily. I forget how cheap feeling other keyboards are and how difficult to use in comparison; then I use a standard one on another person's computer and I realize what a great keyboard I have. I love the feel, the size and the clarity. I cannot recommend anything better in a keyboard. Trust me and buy this one if you are having difficulty seeing the letters on your keyboard (and if you are not... this is still the best keyboard I have ever used and I wrote my first computer program in 1969 [I used cards and a teletype machine for that one]).It isn't often people come back and take the time to review products they like. Everyone is quick to get on here with horror stories, but good reviews are normally a little suspicious to me and I only even consider the "verified purchase" reviews. I love this keyboard enough to take the time to write this. I was here looking for a replacement. I figured after 5 years it might break down and wanted to be sure they were still making them... BUY THIS KEYBOARD if you need a new one. You will not be sorry... if you get a defective one, then replace it through Amazon. I am sure there is seldom a defect with this well built keyboard (I love the positive feel and feedback on the keys). 5Great For Low Light Conditions; Comfortable; Good Key Feel Since 1953, I have conservatively speaking had more than 30 keyboards if you include IBM typewriters (which still rate a "9" on a 10-point scale. I have had 14 computers and 19 keyboards since 1984, and this Keys U See Large is perfect for, not just this time in my life, but for my needs which might go back to 1990.Okay, what they heck am I talking about? Well, I usually type with ambient light rather than direct. Light is off to the side and, at night when I do a good deal of work, the light from the monitor is at least secondary. Since I'm not a touch typist, I need to SEE the keys periodically (well, after all these years, I'm at 70 wpm because I don't have to hunt and my pecking is down-right fast!) Soooo, when the "M", "N", "O", "R" and two other keys on my Logitech no longer had letters, it was time to look for something that could be seen under the best and the not-so-great conditions that I work in. I saw this keyboard, bought it, and it is simply almost great - an "8" on the 10-point scale - but I'm still giving it 5 stars. The keys have a good feel. The number keys, though they don't have arrows, act as arrows (the 4, 8, 6, and 2 correspond to the arrow keys directly to the number keys' left. The hot keys are all that one would want on a typical Windows keyboard and there's even one that puts the computer into hibernation for those who would like to shut down easily. Main programs and Firefox are a key stroke away.So what would I change? Well, not the color, even though the yellow is obnoxious. I mean, don't consider the color for decor purposes, but for visibility. The size of the letters on the keys make it appear that the keys are closer together than they are on other keyboards, but they're not. I would like a light for the "Mute" key since it's in a place that I've never seen before on any keyboard (next to the "Stop Play" button for music).He4re I am at 11:30 PM, and I think if you check this review, you won't find any typos. That in itself should speak pages if not volumes.EW 5Keyboard by DeWalt We ordered a black-on-white one of these for my mother, and this black-on-yellow one for us. She has macular degeneration and loves her new keyboard, we just have eyes that are getting a little older and just wanted something easier to see. I think the black-on-yellow is higher contrast than the black-on-white, as the folks at KeysUSee have said. I would probably have gotten it for my mother, but she found black-on-white easier to read.It is wonderful, we love it. It's easy to install, it just uses a USB port instead of the regular keyboard connector. You do need to disable or uninstall your keyboard drivers before turning your computer off, connecting the new keyboard, and turning the computer back on. This prevents the keyboard from malfunctioning due to software conflicts. These keyboards are especially nice because the keys are all in the same places you are already used to them being in. Some keys do have abbreviations on them so they could enlarge the print (NumLock is NL). Also, if you are used to the backslash key (\) being under the Backspace key, and an "Enter" key that is nice and wide on the homerow, you might find yourself hitting \ when you mean to hit Enter for a while (like me) until you get used to it. This was not enough for me to take a star off, especially since many regular keyboards feature the same arrangement. I just happen to prefer the \ beneath the Backspace.Another plus: my husband is a maintenance supervisor, and to him this keyboard looks like it was made by DeWalt. He's right.************* UPDATE 11-11-2015 **************It has been six years. Both keyboards are still in use, though they are showing signs of age that you would get with any keyboard. There are a couple of keys that don't always type a letter when you hit them (could simply be dirt), and there are a couple of letters that have partially worn off. That could be gone over occasionally with a Sharpie if necessary. When these keyboards finally die, I'll get them again. We are very pleased with them. 5Greatest thing since canned beer! BUT HAS A SHORT LIFE I absolutely LOVED this keyboard.HUGE letters with a clear contrast. No more squinting.I ordered another one for my laptop!FOUR MONTHS LATER:This thing is like meeting a beautiful girl, falling madly in love and discovering that she's just another heart-breaker.FIRST ONE lasted about a month. I figured it was a fluke or I had mistreated it, so I ordered a second and third because my eyes are really bad and I need one that I can SEE.Second one died today, so I plugged number three, fresh out of the box. DOA: Dead on arrival, and I it's too late to return it. 1Great for our elderly parents My girlfriend recently acquired a new desktop for her parents who are now in their 80s. They're surprisingly savvy users, but it was clear to us they would not be able to take advantage of everything the new computer could offer them if we didn't also address the difficulty they were having finding their way around the standard keyboard that had shipped with their previous computer model. It seems the "old" keys were just too small and hard to see, even in the daylight conditions. After looking around a bit, we decided to buy this this oversized keyboard and include it when we delivered the new computer. (It's probably worth mentioning that we set up their new computer in advance, and Windows 7 was able to recognize the new device without difficulty.)We were thankful--and maybe a little relieved--that they took to the new keyboard at once, and they've told us several times over the last couple of weeks just how pleased they are with it. And while I feel the keys are a little chunky--and they are, of course!--and require a little more finger pressure than I'm accustomed to applying, they say it's working out just fine for them.If you find yourself confronted by a similar challenge, consider giving this product a try. It certainly solved the problem we wanted to address. 5Works well enough that I have bought several of this brand and style over the years for all my computers. I'm starting to get cataracts. This is easier to see.I can see the letters in a dimly lit room without my glasses. It's heavy and solid. I've had cheaper big letter KBs but they stop working after barely a year.So far I haven't had one of these models fail at all.For some reason many of the large letter keyboards are very low quality. This is the exception. And the cap lock key pops right off easily so I can add it to my box of pointless cap lock keys.I do not understand the propensity of manufacturers to make keyboards, remote controls, buttons on your TV, and all buttons in general to have a dark gray background with not quite so dark gray letters. You need a million candle power flash light to see them.I wonder if Keys U See makes a universal remote control.I need a universal remote that has big letters with only power on/off, volume, closed caption, and channel change for my mother. All the other buttons inaccessible without a screw driver. And oatmeal resistant.(how can she eat that stuff?) 5Short lasting The keyboard looks beautiful when it is new.The ink wears off too easily. People who buy this kind of keyboard need the ink to last forever. A higher quality ink should have been used. This keyboard stopped working after about two years of light use. For a keyboard, that is terrible. Higher quality parts and construction should have been used. This is a basic keyboard, with colored plastic and big letters. It should cost $10-$20. They were charging $40 when I bought this for my step-dad. I see it has come down to $30, but it is still overpriced- especially considering the lifespan issues.Great concept, poor execution. Two stars. 2Wonderful Like the old IBM keyboards, but it SMELLS EDIT, 10/29/15: the Backspace key sticks unpredictably and often, so either i have to change the keyboard settings in Windows 7 to make backspace key non-destructive, or use a different keyboard. I reported the problam to AramediA weeks ago (it began about two weeks after purchase), and they were very nice, sending me a replacement keyboard and didn't ask for the original back.HOWEVER: the replacement stinks, literally -- like it was soaked in really sour turpentine. So does the original, but only if I put my nose near the keyboard. Yes, after months of use, and with the screen open, fan always on, still stinks. The replacement stinks so badly I put it in another room. Have not yet tried it to see if the Backspace key sticks as well.I have no idea whether this edit will destroy my previous typing, as the new Amazon review system allows no preview. So hope that doesn't happen. Shame on you, Amazon, for changing the review input and commenting system. CHANGE IT BACK TO HOW IT WAS LAST YEAR, please.EDIT, 9/17/15: it still smells like burning plastic (strong chemical smell). Not quite as bad, but you don't want to be too close. the Backspace key is starting to stick (so it won't stop deleting), but maybe I can unlock it, or change what it does. But oh, I love typing on this keyboard, nonstop.Original review, follows below.=======30 years ago, when IBM first came out with its own 'personal computers', its model had a tank for a keyboard. The things had a very distinct touch and LOUD clack, heavy and big. And we loved them. This one isn't quite so heavy, but emulates the IBM right down to the pebble finish on the key surfaces, so memorable to an IBM typist. And hooray, I don't have to look at my fingers anymore, the keys are spaced better than those cramped 'new' keyboards so faddish now! It's big. It's bold. It's loud. And for the first 15 minutes outta da box, it's smelly. But it's a trip down memory lane, to type on it.I'm so sick of black I could scream, so I got this because it wasn't black. Although, I must have a dozen other keyboards that sit in boxes. This will be fun to use when the sun's going down and I'm too busy typing to turn the light on. NO MORE BLACK DEPRESSING KEYS, YAY!!!!At the top, also in yellow, are 11 extra keys for multimedia, kinda like the multimedia Dells: volume, fast rewind and forward, play, mute, sleep button (lol my machine went to sleep when I touched it just now, thought I lost my typing!), Favorites, Search, Mail and Home. The keys are all the same color and the icons saying what they are, can't be seen too well, so you have to hold the keyboard up against your nose. But they work!I really like this keyboard. Will rerate to Five stars if it passes longevity test. I type almost 24/7. Never broke a keyboard yet. This one feels like it will last. 4Truly an "eye" saver! Perfect for anyone with vision problems. I can't believe the difference in my typing since I received this keyboard. I was alway a fast typist in the past but lately, I noticed I had problems with my regular black keyboard that came with my computer. I would put my fingers on what I thought were the right keys, but more often than not, I missed just by one key and everything came out garbled. Very frustrating. Sometimes, I was tempted to just throw the keyboard but finally had to admit to myself, that it was due to my macular degenaration. I checked around on the internet and saw this ad for "EazyEyes", as advertised on TV, for $14.95. I never trusted TV ads so I read the reviews and found nothing but negatives. Just about everyone had found a charge for over $100 on their credit cards. So like usually, I went back to Amazon, where I get most of my good deals, and was lucky to find this one. Ok, it cost quite a bit more but if it would help me to see and type better, it would certainly be worth the price. And it is, without a question. I can do my journal again without having to go back constantly to correct mistakes, which is very important to me. I have always had a computer and would be lost without one. But if typing and reading become difficult, it can drive one to the edge. So I call this wonderful creation not only an "eye saver" but also my "life saver".BTW - I also got a new HP 27" monitor, which is a big improvement over my 22" one. It's available on Amazon for $299.00 and makes a big difference when it comes to reading and surfing the net! I hope this review will help some people with vision problems who are hesitant to update. It might not be the cheapest way to go but I feel my eyes are worth it while I can still operate my computer. 5Interesting Keyboard Pros -VERY EASY to see. I touch type, but I still don t remember where some number / punctuation keys are and have to "cheat" to find them.Plug-and-Play for Windows 7 Pro.Cons -The keys have been 'slightly' rearranged with the backslash/pipe key moving down to the "home row". This makes the "enter" key farther away and harder to find. The keys have an EXTREMELY LONG THROW with nearly zero tactile feedback! I learned to type on a Remington Standard manual typewriter (back in the 60's) so I could adjust, but it s KILLING my typing speed, and every time I switch back to the keyboard on the laptop I m mashing on it so hard I m afraid I m going to break something! Conclusion -If you "Hunt and Peck" and need large print, this is THE keyboard for you. If you normally type @ over 100 WPM (like me) find something else. I m donating mine to the local Senior Center. They ll love it.Five Stars for excellent concept and design minus two stars for poor engineering. 3
