Great deal. A+ on design. B+ on case pouch. A (grade) on quality. F (grade) on (not made) in a G8 country with trade ballance and labor protectionisms. A+ on price.The adjustable jaw pump pliers are ingenious and simular to Kimpex. Push button depressss the grove lock and allows easy adjustment to perfect the jaw opening. This alone is remarkable improvement since the inception of this tool genre in the last fifty years. It's not invented by them but it's questionably simular. The handle grips are a direct match to German made tools. I could swear a blind man wouldn't be able to note any difference in these to their cousins in Germany. Almost like they were the real German made until you see the others all together and it's more obvious they aren't harder cutter surfaces or no multiplied rivet advantage in the placement of the hinge pin to allow less force to squeez while cutting pressures are improved by moving the rivet closer to the jaw opening or aid of a mechanical slide addition. So the plier, needle nose and dykes are just a basic model witch is fine for copper and aluminum wire. But not ok for steel unless it's aircraft .032 safety stainless soft wire.This is a great deal. This is a top deal on Amazon. This is a great gift. This should make the grade in any professional work site or job. This would be fine for all trades. 5Great set with most tools you will need for many jobs This is a great set of tools with the best channel-lock pliers on the market. The tool assortment is perfect for a great assortment of jobs, and the case makes it very convenient to be sure that you have all the needed tools with you. The grips on the tools are very comfortable and the fit of the tools in general is very nice.If I could change anything about this set, I would change the case to include a flap to fold over the top of the tools. As it stands, the tools will fall out of the case if you carry it with the open end down. I accidentally did that just tonight, in fact. I have other multi-sets of things such as files and things of that nature that have a flexible case like this, but there is a flap that folds over the top to keep items from falling out. This would be a good change to this set.With that minor concern noted, I will still give this set a five-star rating and a HIGHLY RECOMMENDED notation. 5Heck of a Buy I prefer to purchase items made in the USA but they are difficult to find and sometimes impossible. I used to purchase Craftsman tools when they were made in the USA but I stopped buying them when they began indicating that they were made in China. These Irwin tools are definitely not made in the USA but I was looking for a tool set to carry around in the cargo box that is installed on the back of my pick-up truck. Two factors helped me to decide to purchase this set. One was the low price of $58.99. The other was the fact that they were not made in China. However, When the tools arrived I noticed that the wrench and the kit bag were made in China. The rest of the tools were made in Taiwan - maybe.The grips on these tools are very large, much larger then the ones on Craftsman tools. That is fine for me because as I enter the active adults age (once known as senior citizen) I find is helpful to have a larger surface to grip when using hand tools.These tools come with a lifetime guarantee which, along with the low cost, made this kit hard to turn down. So, although my number one priority is "made in the USA" sometimes an offer comes along which it is not possible to refuse. 5These really are a quality set of tools :) I never had quality tools before, and this was my first investment. And all I have to say is wow. These feel so good in your hand and they perform way better than I could have imagined. They're really heavy duty and I know these will last years and years. I'm very very happy with these, It's crazy at how big of a difference they make compared to other cheap tools. I'd highly recommend these to anyone looking for a good set of hand tools. You'll be so happy you bought them :) 5A good set, but not the "Industrial" versions, so they were not the quality I was expecting I was at a local hardware store and picked up a couple of the Irwin GrooveLock pliers in a 2-pack. I was very happy with them, so when I saw this set on a Gold Box deal, I picked them up.Once received, I inspected them and realized that there are two different "levels" of Irwin tools..."regular" and "Industrial". These are "regular" so they aren't quite as good as the Industrial versions. This fault is really on me for not knowing the difference. I am no expert or professional, just a garage tinkerer and homeowner so I am going to keep them because for my use, they will last me the rest of my life and they do have a lifetime warranty.I would say these are 85% the quality of the Industrial line but bear in mind I can only compare the GrooveLock pliers (and not the rest of the tools in this set) as I now have both versions to compare. The quality is evident between the two when you put them side-by-side. It is noticed throughout the tools in the thickness of the material overall, the design assembly, the machining work, the grip cushion material, etc. Still, I am sure they will do me just fine. However if you are spoiled by the quality and craftsmanship of the Industrial line, you might not want to get this package deal if you are expecting these to be 100% the same.If these were all tools from their Industrial line, I would have given them 5 stars at any fair price but I cannot find this set in that configuration. The storage roll is handy and decent which is a good bonus. 4Irwin are execellent I purchased the 8" Irwin Groove Locks separately about six years ago and use them all the time. They are awesome. When I saw this set on deal I did not hesitate to purchase them. These tools are very well made and the groove locks are awesome. I'm not sure why anyone would say these are cheaply made because they are certainly not. The pouch it comes with is heavy duty as well. The only thing I noticed is that a couple of them are polished steel and began to show some rust spots. I live one the beach so that is a normal thing for me. I would recommend hitting the polished tools with some WD-40 when you get them just to start the seasoning process and keep them rust free.These tools are so well made I do not expect to ever buy another unless I loose one. You really really get more than you expect with these. 5Great tool set (especially for under $60) Great set. I'm normally a Crafstman guy, but this set was offered under $60, and I didn't hesitate to buy. As weird as it sounds, the tool kit was one of the biggest selling points for me. I like to keep my tools properly stored instead of tossing them in a tool box or drawer. This soft case clipped perfectly onto my existing peg board backed work bench. The tools are well displayed, and easily accessible. The only "issue," if you want to call it that, is that IRWIN has adopted "VISE GRIP," (as I understand it) as terminology for their tool grip and channel locking system. I read the product description, and knew which tools were included, but don't buy this set if you think are are getting a pair of "vice-grip" pliers. Just trying to help out.In terms of Value: I think the list price is some astronomical $160 or something like that. Please take that with a grain of salt. I think $80 for this set is on par. If you can land it cheaper, and are looking for a specific tool or two thats included in this set, don't think twice about it, just make it happen. 5Useful set of tools but made in China Decent set of tools for a great price ($68.00) that I have used several times for gripping hard-to-grab stuff of odd size or rusted frozen nuts and bolts. The push button slide adjustment is the best reason to have the Groovelock pliers in your kit because you don't have to separate the two handles widely in order to adjust the grab size. You just press the button with your thumb and the two handles slide along one another until you get it to the size of whatever you are grabbing. Very fast. The only reason I didn't rate these 5 stars is that they are made in China and they come with a HEAVY coating of lubricant to keep them from oxidizing in shipment. To me, that's a sure sign of inferior quality steel. It used to be that Vise-Grip meant highest quality materials and construction, but I'm not convinced by this set. We'll see. By comparison, think about Klein electrical tools - they are shipped without lube because the steel is top quality and the machining of the steel is flawless, even though they do cost and arm and a leg. In life, you take your pick, but I still buy American when possible. 4apples to apples this is a great tools set Remember, with tools, like most things in life you get what you paid for and sometimes you get lucky by buying smart. I read all the reviews with the luke warm praise of Irwin tools and guys you are not buying Snap On so let us not compare a $ 79.00 per set tool maker to a $79.00 per tool from a precision tool supplier. For the Average Joe/Jane these Irwin tools are great, for me the oversized grip is bulky but for my wife, it is the first time she has actually put a wrench on nut and turned it until it was loose, imagine the look on her face- now she thinks she is Tim " the Tool man" Taylor. Since then she has fixed a door knob and tried to reseat the garbage disposal. That one crank changed her confidence in herself. The irwin set is better than anything you can buy for the price especially with a soft grip.and variety. As for the 3 different size grove lock well you and I may have the hand size to accommodate a 1.5 inch nut on a 10inch wrench but a women with small hands may need that 12 inch wrench to torque that nut. Irwin's sure grip tooth pattern means she will get the torque if she has the right tool. And with this Irwin 8 piece grove lock the right tool is at your side. For a utility set this is an excellent purchase. Everyone needs a good set of linesman pliers, needle nose, wiresnipes, and adjustibles as a base to any project-this set surpasses the store brands in quality and durability and comes with a lifetime warranty. It is not SNAP ON, MAC, PERCISSION or MAACO or GRIZZLY but If you are a professional and your are doing professional work, making professional money -do what real professional do -Go get yourself a set of professional tools. Otherwise lets compare apples to apples I use these on my cars, truck, boats and home and would recommend them without hesitation. I own the 8 piece set 7 piece set and the ergonomic pliers- good quality.I believe in the right tool for the right job and at this price its affordable. 5Solid set of tools in a nice tool roll. As a new homeowner and someone still recovering from growing up with a few of every useful tool and being on my own, I am continuing to build my tool collection. This set was a nice way to expand my tools and duplicate a few. I grew up using all the old made in the U.S.A. tools that with basic care last a lifetime. These are not those tools, but compared to many of the brands you can get at big box stores for reasonable prices, these are higher quality and I am reasonably confident they will last a very long time with average use. All the tools are solid and have put up to the various abuses I have given them without any harm. I am impressed with the actual GrooveLock pliers as they are nice improvement over the basic design which can shift when you are working in awkward spaces. The diagonal (wire) cutters work fine for home wires and such. I have a pair of higher quality cutters and strippers for handling multi-strand and fine wire.My one gripe is the bulk of the handles. For the adjustable wrench it is exceptionally awkward (as I have already mentioned in a review of a full set of those) IRWIN Tools 4 Piece 6-Inch Long, 8-Inch Long, 10-Inch Long and 12-Inch Long Adjustable Wrench Tray Set (2078706) For the rest of the set they seem needlessly larger than they need to be and on a few occasions that extra girth can get in your way for tight spaces. For the rest of the tools other than the adjustable wrenches, the handles are more comfortable and less bulky though so not a major detriment for me. The tool roll was a nice plus and I ended up swapping out some other tools and it lives in my tool chest. to save space.Overall, while the quality is not the same of some of the older tools I grew up using, for today these seems sturdy and more than enough for even an avid DIY'er. If you earn your money with these tools, probably worth spending the extra money on the exact ones you want from best brands, but otherwise this is a solid set. 4
