Customer Reviews

Works as an external hard drive cooler I wanted a cheap, small fan that I could set next to an external hard drive that didn't have its own fan in order to keep the temperature down a little. I paid a little over $7 for this one, which came with free shipping from China. When it arrived, and yes, it did take a while, but having purchased a number of things on eBay that were shipped from China, I knew what I was getting into, one of the two tabs that slot into holes on the base was broken, probably during shipping as the box was fairly beat up. I contacted the seller, and they were very responsive, which I appreciated. Using a little tape, I was able to get the fan to stay on the base just fine. The fan does have only one speed (just an on/off switch on the back), but I would say that the output is fairly robust for a fan of this size and cost. If I was using it to cool me and had it a foot or two away, I think it would do the trick. As it happens, I am using it to cool a hard drive instead. I have the hard drive sitting on a small cabinet under my desk, so there is no air flow, and heat from electronics tends to sort of linger. My hard drive was sitting steady at about 52 degrees Celsius. With the fan, it now stays at 46 degrees Celsius. Granted, that's not a huge drop, but I'm pretty happy with it, and there may be ways to orient things to improve that performance a little. I may consider getting another of these or maybe trying out another fan and using the two to cool everything on that cabinet. Also, as others have said, this fan is silent. 4Deceptively powerful little fan! When I opened the package, I was struck by how light this little fan was. The blades are clear plastic, the body is very lightweight and I thought it wouldn't even give a breeze. How incorrect that assumption was!! This little fan is awesome. It really does put out some air! Has an on/off switch on the back, plugs right into the USB port on the back of the screen. Placed it to the right side of the screen and wow--instant air flow! I'll be saving the shipping box to store it in the desk during the colder months. You won't be disappointed in this purchase. If you're shopping for a desktop fan that doesn't take up much room, runs off of the USB port, gives a great air flow and doesn't cost much----this is your fan. The power cord is nice and long, so that even if you're plugging it into a USB port under the desk, you'll still be able to place it on top of your desk. Best advice I'd give would be to hopefully have a hub on TOP of your desk and keep the twist-tie that comes in shipping on the cord and folded. I can see where the cord might get in your way if you had this plugged under the desk. Overall, HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS FAN!! GREAT LITTLE PRODUCT AND AWESOME AIR FLOW!!! 5Repeat Purchase I've purchased this fan twice. The first fan was used for nearly two years (and, I understand, it is still going strong). I ended up gifting that fan to a colleague when I left the company (for a new job). I happily gave it to her; she said she always liked the fan because it was small (her word was 'dainty'), relatively strong and quiet. When I started my new job, I thought I'd 'upgrade' desk fans when I settled in. However, I ended up buying this fan again because it was so reliable - and yes, definitely dainty and relatively quiet (in a 'white noise' sort of way). The second fan has also been in use for nearly two years now. I actually use it more during the winter months; the heat is turned up high in the office during those months. I've uploaded a photo next to a laptop so folks can see how small/dainty it is by comparison. If you want a no fuss, reliable, unobtrusive - and relatively quiet fan, this one is a good choice. 4It's... adequate. It's pretty quiet and it moves enough air to keep me comfy -- I mostly use only the low speed setting. But it's not as quiet as it could be -- the whirr includes a distinct ticking sound. That doesn't just apply to the audible sound it makes in the air: depending on your computer, it can also create electrical noise audible in your computer's headphone jack.Another issue is that when you disengage the horizontal oscillation, instead of locking into the current position, it just flops loose, so the slightest nudge will point it in a new direction. If it's on a level surface this is not a problem in practice. The biggest issue is that when it arrived, the fan blade had fallen off the motor shaft. I had to undo the grill cover (not too easy with four remarkably well tightened machine screws holding it on), and stick the blade back on with a dab of glue. 3Moves air very well, very quietly, and convenient small size & USB plug. Only drawback: easy to tip over Works great! It's pretty quiet, especially given how well it works in my experience.I'm using this because I designed a computer very poorly (luckily, one I rarely use), and the CPU overheats very easily without the case fans being able to cool it adequately to prevent shutdowns. I put this fan next to the computer with one side of the case removed, with the fan pointed at the CPU that I couldn't cool using several different CPU fans that were a lot more expensive than this thing I'm reviewing.Of course, your use of this is likely to be for a different purpose, but the point is that it moves air very well, does so relatively quietly (a lot more quietly than CPU fans I was trying), and conveniently draws its power from a USB port ("convenient" if you have one available, that is).The only drawback I find to this fan is that it is easily tipped over, being very lightweight (a positive feature for other reasons), with a small base. But that small base is one reason I bought this model, and it is a benefit for other reasons (using it in a small space). You just have to be sure not to bump it, or to check it if you do in case it tipped over without your awareness.Overall, I highly recommend this product! 5Too lightweight to stay put I'd purchased the O2Cool brand fan previously and the one I received was defective (blew the wrong way), so I opted for another brand hoping for better results. While I like the IO Crest Mini fan I'm certainly not in love with it. The biggest plus is I'm stuck in an office with almost no electrical outlets so I needed something that could run off my computer and at the same time not affect the monitor like the one I plugged into the outlet did. This certainly does an OK job, but doesn't move a huge amount of air; not that I expected it to. The fan is so lightweight however that it will move across your desk rather than remaining still, so I had to set it next to my monitor. That sadly causes a vibration noise that can really be annoying, so I had to prop something in there to deaden the vibration and noise. Ideally I didn't want the fan there so it blows in my eyes, which is also annoying as it dries my eyes out. She short cord limits how far way you can put it too, so placing it to either side doesn't work and if you tried you'd still need something to hold it in place. This may work for some people, but for me I'm still looking for something more substantial. 3works good nice little desk fan, blows just the right amount of air. looks kind of like those fans from the 20's/30's. lol, but nice design. best part, it can be used with AA batteries to make it totally portable or can be used with an included USB cable. It does not however have the option of being plugged into a wall jack so keep that in mind. Btw it's really quiet too. 5Beware your electric fan is trying to kill you!!!!!! I love this fan for many reasons 1) it was inexpensive 2) it is small 3) it is powerful for its size and the 4th and most improtant (due to our office's safety officer's crackdown) this fan can use either usb or battery power........ because in case you don't know electric fans are rising up and torching office all around the world and the only way to stop them is to completely ban them and not even attempt to weed out the unruly and radical amongst the otherwise peaceloving masses .... so in case you are in an office that has also taken this "completely rational and understandalbe" stance angainst these vandals this should be an excelent purchase .... it would also work if you simply didn't have an extra outlet :) 5Quiet fan I was looking for a quiet fan and saw the reviews for this one on Amazon. I used it for about 2 weeks in the summer and it started out nice and quiet. I had it aimed at the back of my 21-inch all-in-one computer. I have the computer in a corner and this summer, it shut down on me twice from overheating, so i got this little fan. The fan worked beautifully, keeping the outside of my computer slightly warm to the touch instead of hot to the touch as it was before the fan. I ran the fan about 14 hours a day and then after about 2 weeks, it started to make a faint high-pitched whine. Nothing bothersome. I noticed it when the house was quiet one evening. The fan came without the blade assembly being fastened to the drive shaft assembly. There were no clips or screws in the package I got, so I have the blades held onto the drive shaft assembly with 2 rubber bands and that works fine. The faint whine that started up might be because the rubber bands are not evenly tensioned, and because of that, the drive shaft might be being pulled off center. For $5, though, I ll just keep using it as is until it gets too noisy or it breaks. 4Had good luck on 3 out of 4 of these. I have actually bought 4 of these now. The first 2 I bought a few years ago and used them at my job. One wore out after a few years of daily use. The other got the cord run over by the cleaning service. I swapped the cord over from the first one and it still worked fine. I decided I wanted one for my computer desk at home and ordered a 3rd.This one arrived and I was immediately concerned. The UPS box was fine but the fan box was all beat up. I was still hopeful though and opened it up. It must have been through some rough times at one of the warehouses. The fan blade was completely detached from the stem and sitting loosely inside. I probably could have taken it apart but the little tiny nuts and bolts holding the guard together would have been a pain. I sent it back to Amazon who was great on the return and replacement. They sent another out right away before this one being sent back. The new one works great. 4
