Customer Reviews

Used Cpu at a very good value This CPU is very powerful and can rate on par with the modern iterations. Especially if you're using ddr3 ram. If buying new though, you're better off buying the latest. This CPU is too expensive new. 5Great so far I built my first computer and did not want to deal with OC. After a boat load of research I was able to piece everything together based on how I planned on approaching it. I did pair the i7-4790 Processor with an MSI Micro Z97M Gaming mobo and will be running SLI with two GTX 780s in the near future. I am running on a single Geforce GTX 760 at the moment. The overall experience so far has been great. The computer boots in roughly 5 seconds. I have no issues running multiple programs to include videos along with games for assistance. This is required for some quests in Elders Scrolls Online. So far the experience is great. I will however update my review once I install the two new GPU's and start running SLI on 2 screens. I hope this helps. Feel free to ask questions. Just understand I am not an expert and please do your research prior to purchasing this Processor. If you are looking to overclock... Do not buy it. Go for the i7-4790k if that is the case. 5So I have only good things to say It's an Intel product. So I have only good things to say. Easy to install and no problems booting afterwards. I bought the i7-4790 to help future proof my computer for the next few years. So far everything is lightning fast. I've noticed a decent improvement in frame rates in games like the witcher 3 when compared to my previous CPU which was an i5-4460 (though it was a great little CPU too.) When it comes to choosing between Intel and AMD I suggest choosing Intel everytime if you can afford it. Even getting and i3 is better than getting most of the CPUs AMD is offering right now. 5Hardest To Install But That's My Fault..... I decided to get this CPU as the i7-4790k I had just got wasn't stable on my system. It might run fine for two days then lockup solid or it might not even stay up for 20 minutes before locking up. I tried a number of things that just didn't work for me. Since I like my CPUs to run stable most of the time, this was just not for me. (If I ever get a new MB that's set up for overclocking, then I'm all set.) So I got this in today and shut down the my main gaming system and proceeded to get it installed. Right off the bat yellow blinking light on boot. I had taken all the steps I should but no dice first try. Redid the heat sink compound and reseated the H60 heat sink on the CPU.....Second attempt.....yellow blinking power light. Decided to check and see if the PS, MB, or CPU were bad. Took the old i5 and reinstalled it and it booted right up! Opps! I was beginning to think I'd got a bad chip. So back to the kitchen for one last try. This time I removed the BIOS battery to clear he BIOS just in case. When I had removed i5 and started to installed the i7 again, I noticed on the bottom some heat sink compound has gotten smeared over the very lower left side of the chip on a few contact points. Apparently when I installed it the first time, I had gotten some heat sink compound on the underside of the chip. Cleaned that area off with some alcohol then reinstalled it again making sure to get the compound on the top of the chip only. Put the battery back in and back to the computer room. This time the system had the yellow blinking light again on the first try. So I decided let's give it one more try. Pressed the power bottom and just let it sit there. It went thru a number of quick false starts and then booted right up! I almost fell out of the chair. I had just about decided I had played chip roulette once to many times. Anyway, after that it has been running very stable and has failed to handle anything I've thrown at it. We'll see how it does over a long term but it is sure running and feeling solid now. Guess next time I'll be a bit more careful with the heat sink compound! (Reminds me of my 4790k..........) 5Great CPU for 4k HTPC build If you're reading this you understand what you're going to receive. A quad core Intel with Hyper Thread that can handle almost any application. For gaming this is a bit overkill but it future proofs your build for just a little longer! Lower heat output and power consumption with this generation. Using a passive cooler, Thermalright Macho Zero, in a Thermaltake V21 and barely reaches 60 C. Using for a 4k HTPC monster and can't complain 5ASrock H87 pro needs BIOS update I have 2 Asrock H87 pro mobos. One with a i7-4770 and one with a i5-4430. I want to add a 3rd computer and swap out the i5 with this 4790. well I did and when I turned on the computer I got no beep or display. PANIC! so I put the i5 back in and all was well. I decided to check out my symptoms and while checking compatibility of i7-4790 with the asrock H87, which it is, I discovered I needed a BIOS update. so I did that then reinstalled the 4790 and all is well. This processor is so fast it can read my mind. oooooo 5Strong performance. Have had it for 3. 5 ... Strong performance. Have had it for 3.5 years and it still crushes any game i've thrown at it. Once I upgrade (probably the the intel 9000 series) ima make a shrine for it or something. 10/10 5Great functional CPU Was looking to add two cores to an i3-4150 machine. Couldn't find an i5 for under about $350. Found this i7-4790 for a fair used price. Bought it, put an aftermarket cooler on it, and it works flawlessly. Very happy with product and the seller. 5Faster than stock i3, higher fps, but the fan has to go! I upgraded my 500-490's cpu from an i3 to this, and it is quite fast! Loading times are faster, fps is higher, and after owning it a while I wouldn't go back.As others have noted, the fan that comes packaged with it comes with horrible plastic mounting pins that don't seem to go down; I would have preferred screws like the stock i3 had. There was also no thermal paste included, so I had to purchase it from Amazon. 4Man this thing is fast! Man this thing is fast! Was gonna get the 4790k but it rose $30 in price so I went with this bad boy instead. I would have never been able to tell the difference. It loads apps and webpages so quick it catches me off guard sometimes.EDIT: For those worried about temps, I use the included stock fan. I idle around 30-35c, and when I game intensively for sessions around 5-6hrs I haven't seen temps higher than 55c. I hope that clears up any speculation. 5
