Customer Reviews

AWESOM affordable mic for those who don't want to face a mic stand all night! I'm a singer / songwriter musician. I perform in local venues such as coffee shops, out door markets, as well as at church. This microphone is a great addition to my equipment. When conditions are not windy, it sounds great and is comfortable to ware.It sounds great for my voice as well as my harmonica.pros:Great natural soundcomfortable adjustable fit. Some have said that this microphone is easy to break. I have adjusted this to fit my face and have made several adjustments. Mine has not broken. One thing I really found helpful was to put a clip on the cord a couple of inches away from the microphone to remove the strain. I clip the cord to the side or back of my shirt collar. This way the mic doesn't move each time the cord moves a little.cautions:this microphone is really loud. You will need to adjust your gain way down and maybe use a pad. Also, this mic is very sensitive to wind, even with the wind screen on.If you have the equipment to use this mic, it is a great affordable mic. 5I would pay more!!!! well worth it. i have used the country man E6 and yes it is a better microphone. But now i am at a church that can not afford to put that into its budget. So, when the current sure wireless mic broke (the metal for the ear piece snapped off and not it is useless) i had to find a replace mic and did not want to but a whole new wireless system.THIS MIC RUN HOT. no big deal. turn the gain down on your recover box and then adjust accordingly with your sound board. This is why i started testing it 5 days before i was going to use it. Now the mic is dial in, the sermons can be heard by all the people in the church and the recording for the web is crystal clear. With the price i bought 2 mics. This way when a guest pastor or speaker come to the church, they can use the spare and i do not have to worry about refitting the mic to my face. Also, there is not fear if it is used by the youth or children. At this price i should buy more!I do not know about the other Pyle products, but this is is excellent. 5Great Bang for your Buck I used this mic for a college musical theater production and needed one short notice after another broke during tech week. This one came just in time thanks to prime and was easy to set up. Since these are the same mics used by everyone in the productions at this college, I can tell you they do tend to fail after a few productions. I would say, if you take good care of them, they should be able to last. This means, don't just shove them into carry pouches, etc.. As far as sound quality, they're obviously not the best, but I was genuinely surprised considering the price. I threw a high-pass filter on and some general rough EQing and they didn't sound half bad. For budget productions I definitely recommend these. Though, if you have a little more dough to spend, probably go for something a little bit higher quality. I want to emphasize, though, despite build and sound quality being lower due to price, they are a steal for what they are. 5Great for school theaters! I work for a theater as an audio engineer/audio designer for theater shows at the primary, secondary and college level. I've worked with DPA mics, Countryman mics and these pyles. As a sound guy, I care about a few things: Sound quality, durability and ease of use. That's what I'll review.First and foremost, these mics are not DPA and Countryman in both sound quality and durability. With that said, for $10-13, these mics are the best bang for the buck.Sound quality: For $10-13, these sound great. They are clear, crisp, and with a little bit of EQ, will match any theater needs.Durability: Ok, come on. They're $13. Of course they aren't tanks. You do have to be careful with them, especially when you are molding it onto someone's ears. The ear portion is quite stiff so we have to be careful not to bend them too quickly or bend them back and forth. If you take good care of them, they will last. I still have some that are still ok after 3-4 shows. Some tips to help with this:-Allot some time to mic the people. Assume that your first mic'ing will take a while. This is to prevent rushing and snapping the mic.-Try to keep a mic on a single kid so that you don't have to mold it back and forth between kids. (we had a company do 4 shows in two weeks and they used the same mics for all 4 shows. Constantly molding them back and forth caused about 10-15 mics to go down... Not the best planning).-A spot that seems to be a weak point is where the cable meets the connector. There is no reinforcement over there and if they are wearing vertical mic belts, the connector has a tendency to rub and be pressed against the wearer's back causing some failures. We normally use gaff tape or something to help reinforce that area.Ease of use: We use these mics with the Shure ULX series and like other mics, it s plug and go. These mics, however, are much hotter than Countryman so make sure you turn on the -20dB pad so that you re not clipping on the transmitter.Overall, if you re a small company or a school, I HIGHLY recommend these mics. I mean, countryman are always great and will last longer, but at the cost of $300-400, you can buy 20-30 of these for the price of one! 5I have been working in live sound for years, and if budget is a concern, I recommend this product over any of the more expensive I purchased two of these to replace a failing countryman microphone of the same style. I can honestly say that this Pyle microphone performs basically identically to the significantly more expensive countryman microphone. The Pyle mic seems to have a bit more gain, but other than that, its sound quality is fantastic. Even if the Pyle is slightly less robust then the Countryman (time will tell), It is far more financially viable to purchase numerous Pyle microphones as backups then to purchase one countryman.I have been working in live sound for years, and if budget is a concern, I recommend this product over any of the more expensive brands! 5Price Creeping upwards. Is it still worth it? For the price, these head mics are a great option. However, I first started using them when they were priced at about $13 a piece. With my last order, the price crept up to about $18. Now they are being sold for $23.50. I have ordered more than 100 of these over time and over my last two orders (8 - 12 at a time), I am surprised that the price went up twice. We use them in a community musical theatre application which, for the price, is a great deal.Be aware that the durability is not as high as you would probably like. At $13, they truly were like razor blades and I could overlook the fact that after 3 shows or so, I could dispose of them (they short out more frequently than the Countrymans). However, now that the price is increasing, it is harder to look at them in that way.Other than overall durability, and again, for the price, I am pleased with the sound quality. I don't appreciate the length of the mics only because I have a lot of young actors where the excessive length makes it a challenge to place these mics discreetly on their smaller heads. So is it worth it? In most cases, most definitely. However, if the price exceeds $30, based on the durability and sacrifices made when compared to a Countryman, I'll probably have to reconsider. 3FRAGILE! The only two positive things about this microphone is that it sounds pretty good and that is initially affordable. The list of negatives are many.Without extraordinary careful handling this microphone will fail in a matter of a few uses with loud static ruining any performance or speech. My personal experience with these microphones (15+) is that 90% will fail in a 14 performance musical. The connection from the hard tubing to flexible wire is very susceptible to any type stress. It is not designed to be repaired. The warranty is useless. Amazon will not accept returns. Pyle will charge more that the initial purchase price for "service and handling" and shipping. The boom length is extremely long so to use these properly they will need to be bent (very, very carefully) to shorten the distance between the mic element and the ear. Even then it will leave a long extension running down the neck in a awkward position. Please, do yourself a favor and pass this one by. 1Stupid Cheap - took a BEATING! Sounds Great! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! SKIP TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS REVIEW FOR MY THOUGHTS AFTER USING THIS MIC FOR OVER 4 MONTHS.So here was my challenge: as an audio professional, I was tasked with finding a headworn mic for a flautist (flute player) in a high school marching band in central FL. I didn't want to buy a countryman or similar because it's a high school marching band in the middle of humidity/heat central. But it had to sound good enough to fill a stadium during a marching band show. This little mic from Pyle ROCKS - sounds great - very natural sounding representation of a flute with the mic capsule parked right above the flautist's mouth. Rolled off everything under 100Hz to get rid of breath and wind noise. OK so I bought a couple of them because I expect that we will have failures due to the proximity to heat, humidity, sweat, etc. But at $15/each, I'm OK with that. If I go thru both of them, I can have more the next day via Amazon.I can see where these mics would be great for kids/high school theatre, but I wouldn't hesitate to use them in dinner theater situations either.Been using this mic for a week now - I'll report back at the end of marching band season as to how the mic faired, and how many I went thru.UPDATE:Been using this mic for over a month now, and I'm still completely happy with it and my use of it. I haven't had to use the backup unit that I purchased (just in case). Turned my local drama department head onto it as an alternative (backup) to the more expensive "pro" units that he's used to buying.2ND UPDATE:Almost to the end of a very hot & humid Florida marching season, and the original unit I bought is working and sounding great. Can't recommend this unit enough for the price point and use.END OF SEASON UPDATE:STILL using the original mic. Haven't had to break out the backup unit from it's packaging. It survived an entire marching band season in hot, humid & wet Central Florida. Have had many comments from other high school marching bands about how natural the flute sounds with this mic (one group accused us of using a recording...). Not sure what other folks are doing to have the negative experiences they have reported - the high school kids using this mic were NOT gentle, and it just keeps on sounding great! 5Almost Countryman Quality at Radio Shack Prices. I hesitantly bought this mic for our pastor as the cord was shorting in his lapel mic. I used a Countryman mic when I pastored, and loved it, but the prices was too steep for where we're at right now.As others have said, the packaging makes it feel like I got a Radio-Shack mic, but at least it's a Radio-Shack price. Right? Well, took it to set up and plugged it in. Immediately noticed that I had to turn the gain down by over thirty percent (lapel to headset makes a big difference, of course). But more importantly, Pastor's voice was clear and crisp. We meet in a gym with concrete walls, so no matter what we do, we get ringing and reverberation. It tends to muffle the mids in Pastor's voice. But now, even though we still have the reverberation, those mids, again, are so much cleaner. As for the fit, Pastor has had no problem with it sliding or moving on him at all. I also tried it on when I first got it, and although it's not nearly as flexible as the Countryman, nor as comfortable, it wasn't something that would detract from me preaching, either. For the price, it's completely worth it. Down the road, we'll by a Countryman for him, and save this one for guest speakers, mainly because we can shape the other so much easier to fit perfectly. But that'll be a luxury. The long and short of it: buy it. Even if it was a third to half the price of the Countryman, buy it. But at under $20, it's foolish not to buy one, or even have a couple extra hanging around, "just in case."UPDATE: 7/1/2015I am still amazed at the mic. We have had no problems with it whatsoever, and it is still helping reproduce quality sound. We had a guest speaker last week who used the mic, and again, there were no problems. This mic really is the one to get if you're on any kind of budget. The only reason I'd go with the Countryman is the absolute flexibility of the Countryman, but only if I needed it. 5This Purchase was a No-Brainer! I purchased this mic as an alternative to the lavalier mic on our Shure wireless system. At a $14 cost I had nothing to lose if the Pyle-Pro failed to work as expected. This over the ear mic exceeded my expectations! It performed as well as a comparable Shure over the ear mic, and is perhaps slightly more sensitive to feedback, but I have controlled any feedback issues wtih gain and equalization. If you need an over the ear mic for a Shure system, you won't regret purchasing the Pyle-Pro PMEMS 10 in Ear Mini-XLR mic. 5
