Customer Reviews

Rainbows & makes the screen grainy Has a rain-bowing and grainy effect on the screen. Great feel for pencil. Bad clarity. See before and after pictures. 1Comic Artist Says: Patience Required for that Sweet Paper Feeling Hello from a comics artist downwind of the SoCal wildfires, with lovely airborne grit in place of snow, and with 2 dogs and 4 cats.I mention the fallout and pets because I managed to get this screen protector on -with no dirt or hair underneath- even in these maddening conditions, and no bubbles. The only trick is patience.CAN I DRAW ON THIS SHIZZ?Yeah, yeah, but what you really want to know when you consider a matte protector for the iPad Pro is a) will it give me a more paper-like texture b) will it dull the screen?Yes and yes. But don t go!The protector itself does -slightly- diffuse the crisp screen resolution of the iPad Pro, but I found the trade-off in making the screen a bit grippier for the Pencil to be worth it. So far, I m digging it. I spent a few days without a matte screen protector for comparison, and I vastly prefer a useable, toothy, surface with minor diffusion over a sharp screen on which the Pencil slides like wet ice on wet ice.YOU SAID YOU INSTALLED IT WITHOUT BUBBLES OR DIRT, TELL ME YOUR SECRETS, FIBBLIBBY McFIBBERLOONSIn the package you get two screen protectors, rubber bands to help you place it on the iPad, tabs to aid in placement, a tab to remove the protective film on the screen protector (protectorception! *bass note*) tabs to lift the protector again for cleaning, a tape to pick up debris. It helps a LOT to watch the installation video on YouTube; there are a number of stickers whose purpose won t be completely clear unless you watch the vid.Make sure your work area is wiped down, your hands are clean, and you re working in good light. As you lay the protector down on the iPad screen, you ll see some bubbles are bubbles, and some are bits of dust, debris, or hair.Use the tape for lifting the corner of the protector, peel back to the dirt, then use the dirt-lifting tape to gently dab the debris away from the screen or protector, and lay the protector down again. It might take you numerous repetitions of this process to get a completely clean covering, but if it s doable in the land of grit and pet hair, it s probably doable most indoor places.Five stars for right now, because I got everything I needed to do the job, and I like the results. I ll update when I find out what the long term durability is. 5Greatly reduces clarity of the display Unlike many of the reviewers, I didn t find this protector particularly difficult to install. It took some time to work out the bubbles and remove errant dust. The reason I ve removed it and thrown it out is that it makes the display look terrible. It reduces the spectacular Retina display to resemble and old TV. The grainy nature of the protector is doubly noticeable when scrolling. The only nice thing about the matte finish is that it provides good tooth if using an Apple Pencil. But it s just not worth the reduction in clarity. In short, if you love the crisp resolution of your iPad Pro, don t waste your money on this. This is a brief update - I decided to leave it on for another couple weeks to see if I got used to it. Nope. When I finally took it off I felt relieved to once again get the fantastic display quality back on the iPad. As for drawing with the pencil, it didn t make as big a difference as I d thought. I m sticking with my one-star review. 1Excellent, I'm very satisfied with the results I just installed this anti-glare screen protector on my new 12.9" iPad Pro. There were some bubbles after installation, I couldn't rub them all out at the time, but after about 6 hours, all the small leftover bubbles had disappeared on their own.For all those having issues installing this screen protector, you have to make sure your display is pristine, 100% clean and free of dust. Use a lot of light so you can actually see if there are any fine dust particles on the display. And then from there, line everything up perfectly and just be extremely slow and careful. Watch the YouTube video instructions in addition to reading the included directions. 5iCarez is the only screen protector brand I use. I m kind of the iCarez choir here, as for the past year plus they are the only screen protectors I will purchase and use. I ve tried many others, and the combination of ease of installation and quality have me hooked. I usually use their tempered glass protectors on our families devices, but for the ipad pro 12.9, I wanted the tooth of a matte protector, and reviews have said glass protectors increase latency and decrease accuracy when using the apple pencil.I can see where the instructions could be a bit overwhelming for the firsst time using these protetors, but if you carefully read the instructions and the tabs, it s fairly straight forward. The thing to know is that the tab 1 (start) goes faicing the screen and tab 2 (finish) goes facing out at you. Once you use the bands, and hinge sticker, and clean the screen then carefully pull tab 1 down to expose the sticky side, and carefully fold back over to the screen, not letting it touch until positioned fully over it. After sticking the protector to the screen, with your hand press any large bubbles out from center to edges. Then place the squeegee INSIDE the cloth provided and at an angle, push bubbles out the sides. When this is complete, then pull tab 2, removing the outside film. Some people don t seem to realize there is a film on the outside as well as the inside.I had a few tiny pinprick size bubbles in one corner and on an edge, but within a few hours they had dissipated. I was concerned about how the matte screen protector would look, as, well, after spending 1k on this tablet, and the beautiful screen quality, I didn t want to negate that. However, the screen is such a fingerprint magnet, and I use the apple pencil for drawing, figured I would at least try it. I have to say I am quite happy with how it looks, and for artistic purposes, it s much easier to use the apple pencil on the matte protector. 5Much better surface for me than drawing on glass I watched the video several times before applying the protector and that helped a lot. It ended up going on easy and clean. The bubbles from the screen were easy to push out using the tool provided in the kit. There is only one stubborn bubble left and that's on the edge of the tablet so it doesn't really bother me.I use the iPad Pro for illustration and just couldn't get used to drawing on glass. The is screen protector has some tooth to it. Not like drawing on paper but like drawing on mylar (if anyone reading this can remember that) or bumwad (ditto). I have much greater control now using the apple pencil. If you have trouble drawing on glass I think this is worth the investment to experiment. After a month or so of drawing I can't imagine drawing on the glass again. My drawings have radically improved. If I could I'd give it 6 stars.Screen responsiveness to touch seems to be unaffected by having the screen protector on it. The screen is not quite as brilliant because of the protector, but, again, my main concern was for making drawing easier. 5Horrible experience! After spending around an hour applying the film and getting all the bubbles out I couldn't wait to see how my screen looked. Made the retina display look like total garbage, lots off rainbow like little tiny dots everywhere, completely hurt my eyes, waste of time. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! Went right into the trash. 1Great Screen Protector, add 1-2 more #7 for big screen stickers please. ;-) I did quite a bit of research before selecting this, my first choice, screen protector for my iPad Pro 12.9 (2017). I would like to thank other reviewers for the very helpful information they provided. I think most everyone is spot on with their reviews. The only thing I didn t see mentioned was the minimal number of hinge stickers included with the large 12.9 iPad size. There should be at least 2-3 large stickers included in the package so you have backup, and a clean set for installing the second screen protector when you need it.The product itself is awesome ... 5 stars when it s installed. As many others have mentioned, the instructions were somewhat confusing, however, once I watched a video or 2 on YouTube I had some idea what I needed to do when installing. Intallation was fine.Minus 1 star because there should be 2-3 sets of large stickers included. IMO, the product should come with 3-4 sets of stickers for installation. At least 2 sets of LARGE stickers so when it comes to replacing my first one, I have fresh stickers to install the second when and if I need it. Now I have a second screen protector and a used large sticker (with some of it s backing torn off after removing it as carefully as I could). Yeah, I have a small sticker that I can use for the second one, but really ... how much more would it cost the manufacturer to put 2 large hinge stickers in the box.Okay ... that s all the bad stuff. Fitting it was easy, getting it on was okay and I only had to deal with one spot of large dust - easily removed with the provided dust stickers - and done. Good to go. Smoothing out air bubble was no problem and after sitting overnight it was perfectly smooth. Some have already mentioned ... install in a clean a space, no fan/wind, with the least amount of dust around as possible. Don't work up any static if you're on carpet. The surface is very nice and feels durable. It's smooth and does not reduce the quality of the display significantly. It ads a little bit of grain visually, but not bad, and no rainbows. It really reduces fingerprints and smudges on screen ... very nice! Now I don't feel like it's necessary to wear a smudge guard when drawing on screen. Drawing on the surface with Apple Pencil is very nice! I'm a professional graphic designer, Art Director, and illustrator. I've been a digital artist for over 27 years. I own and use a Wacom Cintiq 24 HD that I have had for 4-5 years. I really dig the surface texture and slight resistance this iCarez Screen Protector adds to the iPad screen.I have no retrets about buying the iCarez screen protector for 12.9 Apple iPad. It s a good product and if you re an artist, or not, it will help protect your iPad investment. If you are patient and install it correctly, I think you'll be very happy with this screen protector, and considering the original price was over $29 ... it's a steal on Amazon at under $8. I'll be ordering another set or two just to have them as backups. 4Like a Frosted Glass I'll start off by saying that it went on easily. There's a scannable QR code that leads to a youtube video of how to install the screen protector and it's very helpful. It's essentially a demo of the instructions included in the package, but it's nice to see it in real time. You put side 1 down, side 2 is up, then attach the 2 rubber bands to the ends, then the stickers, then fold back the screen protector so you can wipe your screen, then remove side 1's adhesive, apply the protector back, squeegee out any bubbles, then pull off side 2 and the remaining stickers. It's interesting and doable. I still had some bubbles b/c of dust that got left behind, but I did it quickly so it was understandable. Point is, this applies easily and the instructions are very helpful. That gets you 3 stars. The reason it stops there is that the fun screeches to a grinding halt once you turn on the iPad. Your beautiful display of 260+ PPI has just been reduced to a comparable 720p experience equivalent to light shining from a frosted glass. EVERYTHING is affected. Normal light, night mode, nightshift, bright, low brightness, it's all frosted and makes your iPad a big piece of trash. There's a 2nd screen protector included in the package but I'm not going to be using it. Gotta trash this now since it's like a Matte display + Frosting. If you wanted this for the "anti-glare," remember that apple upgraded the display to be more glare resistant. You should want this for scratch protection and it will do that, but your display becomes trashed and thus the screen protector is unusable. Really disappointed in iCarez w/ this product. Shame! 3Long story short -- this is a good product that did what I needed it to Long story short -- this is a good product that did what I needed it to: create a more pleasing surface to draw on with the Apple Pencil. So ultimately, that's a win. It adds just enough tooth that you lose that "slickery" feeling you have when drawing directly on the glass. The closest comparison I can think of is drawing on frosted drafting film (minus the smudging and ink blobs!). Visually it creates a surface sort of like an LCD laptop screen, or an old iMac, circa 2005 or so. But the retina display still shines through. Text is sharp and colors are unaffected. The bad news is: you should plan to spend at least half an hour putting it on. Then another 15 minutes re-putting it on. Oh, and if you have a NASA clean room at your disposal, that would be helpful. Otherwise plan on some major dust removal. But I think this problem is likely true of all thin-flim screen protectors. And to their credit, they do have a fairly good system of stickers to help align and position. (Ignore the written instructions and seek out the how-tos on YouTube). And now that my OCD has subsided, I don't see any blemishes or air bubbles remaining from installation. All in all, it's worth the price, and does what it's supposed to do. 4
