Customer Reviews

Works flawlessly, easy set-upI bought this device because I needed a workaround to send Dolby surround signals via optical cable to my Sonos wireless surround system's Playbase. For some reason I cannot fathom, the otherwise excellent Sonos Playbase lacks an HDMI input. Sonos expects you to connect the playbase directly to your TV via optical cable. Unfortunately, most TVs' optical outputs, including our Samsung's, do not support 5.1 surround sound, only stereo. Having spent nearly $1,700 on the Sonos surround system, I was desperate to find an alternative to the TV's audio-challenged optical output. This very reasonably priced iArk box was the answer. Its three HDMI inputs were sufficient to handle outputs from our X1 cable box, Roku streaming box, and DVD player. The iArk passes the video signals from those three components on to the Samsung via a single HDMI cable. Meanwhile the iArk strips out the audio and sends it to the Playbase and the Sonos system via an optical ("Toslink") cable. I now get true surround sound from the cable box and DVD player. Streaming audio is another story. Setup is ridiculously simple, just plug everything in and go. And I can control the whole set-up through my Logitech universal remote.Streaming's surround audio format is something called Dolby+, which is not supported over optical cable, so the best the Sonos system can do with it is to simulate a surround experience. (Sonos really needs to include an HDMI input in their Playbase's next iteration, but that's another story.)5This thing is great -- had one HDMI coming through a conduit from ... This thing is great -- had one HDMI coming through a conduit from the TV, and my cheap flatscreen had no audio out. AND I wanted a soundbar. So, I hooked the one HDMI to this going through the conduit to the TV. Then hooked my AppleTV and cable box HMDI out to this, and ran the Toslink from the digital out on this to my soundbar. TA DA! Instant solution. This thing works great. 5Solidly built, but some irritationsThis is a solidly built item. Much heavier than expected. Doesn't get hot with havy usage. Passes video signals cleanly, and extracts audio perfectly. Manual switching is fine. Auto switching doesn't seem to work at all. Not sure what's up with that. Changing the audio output format seems to also operate the pause function on a Samsung TV. Not sure exactly what the Pass audio format is exactly, but it works OK. Instructions could be better written. Instructions are not clear at all. Remoter must be pointed pretty precisely at the unit or it doesn't respond. I mean you aim needs to be extremely precise. The unit also has no sleep function. Not sure how much power it consumes, but my sound bar doesn't sleep either with this thing powered up. If you're good with unusable instructions (setup is not complicated), no auto switch function, no sleep function and putting a telescopic site on the remote, this is a seriously excellent product. Build quality is very impressive. 3 stars instead of 5 because of the minor annoyances. Amazon shipped this thing via UPS Surepost which is always irritating if you live in an area where the post office does not provide home delivery. Anything that gets touched by USPS is ALWAYS problematic in the boondocks.3A nice little switch boxThis unit is a 3-to-1 HDMI switch. It auto-senses which port is active (in the case of the other two inputs being turned off) and will automatically select on in Auto mode. You can turn off Auto mode if you don't like that. All the functionality of the remote is duplicated on the front panel, so you can still control it if you lose the remote. My only big complaint is that pressing any button, even audio options, disconnects and re-connects the HDMI connection so your screen goes blank for a few seconds. Even if you don't change the input but just pick a different audio setting, it still does this. Maybe there's no way around it, but it feels clumsy. The settings you pick are retained when power is off and even when power is disconnected which is nice. The remote works well and is responsive. Build quality seems good, it's a metal box and the buttons are nice and clicky on the front panel.I can't speak to the analog audio quality but the TOSLINK output sounds just great. Overall it works well and does what it claims to do. This was a convenient way to not only get multiple devices connected to a TV with one HDMI input, but to also strip out the audio to run to a sound bar.4A Nice Switch I ordered this switch in the hopes of making my Roku express, HDTV, cable box, and DVD home theater system work together swimmingly. The home theater system is aging just a bit, and the only audio input that still works is the optical input. This switch had that option, and this evening I put everything together, and once it was all hooked up, I saw that everything worked flawlessly. The switcher automatically switches between my cable box, and Roku express when either one is activated, and there is no lag in the audio stream when doing so. It works like a charm. Highly recommended. 5It works great. Has a little handy remote too I bought this to split audio from my from my Chromecast/Fire/Apple TV HDMI to RCA so I can plug it into an amplifier. It works great. Has a little handy remote too. 5Awesome productSo happy with this purchase. I struggled finding something that would allow me to hook up my projector and audio set up to a few hdmi devices I use. This did the trick. I have the projector hooked up to the hdmi output, and my Nintendo switch, computer and Samsung Dex hooked up to the inputs. I also have a sound bar hooked up as well, allowing me to use all three hdmi ports (nintendo, comp, Dex) with the sound bar and projector display. Before I had 1500 cords (exaggeration but still a pain) and had to plug and unplug things in order to get everything to work. Now it's just a quick click of the clicker to select which hdmi port I want to use.5the signal comes through just fine. The optical audio out has worked perfectly as ...My home theater set-up is a bit different from most. I have an HDMI projector hung on the ceiling, a surround-sound speaker system mounted on the wall the image is projected on, two game consoles, and a computer acting as a media server. This is the only switch I found which had the inputs/outputs I needed along with the ability to separate the audio from the video. It has worked perfectly. Even with two 25' lengths of HDMI cable being used because everything is so spread out, the signal comes through just fine. The optical audio out has worked perfectly as well.5Did the job perfectly. Customer Service had a quick reply and quick fix to my question/issue.I use this to connect an Apple TV and a Cable DVR to my Samsung TV and Yamaha Sound Bar. Each input device connects to the switch using an HDMI cable, and I use the HDMI out to connect to the TV and an optical cable to connect to the soundbar. I was nervous that using an optical out for the audio would create issues or synching problems, but the audio and video sync perfectly.Further, I also use the programmable Logitech Harmony remotes, which means I had to set up a program to tell the remote which input to use for which device. I couldn't find the brand or device name in the Harmony settings, but it offers a custom learning mode which was easy enough to use. I was able to teach it power, input 1, input 2, input 3, and then build rules around it. This works great as a switch and saved me from spending $400 or more on a receiver to accomplish the same task.I'd buy this again and use it again for other applications. I reached out to customer service with some questions, and they responded promptly and ensured everything was 100%. I give them an A for customer service as well.5Works and sounds great. Very easy to do Connected non optical components to switch via hdmi. Then ran hdmi to tv and optical audio to my soundbar. Works and sounds great. Very easy to do. I hooked everything up and plugged in the switch / audio extractor and everything worked. I highly recommend using for old audio equipment that uses optical toslink cables. 5There is a learning curve of your not up on old and new TV entertainment components! LOVE THIS BOX!While there is a bit of a learning curve because of all the settings available on this device, I could not be happier with the results! It had allowed me to integrate all my older equipment with the newest fangle gadgets available today! I hooked up everything when the box arrived and... Nothing worked... Haha it was my fault as I hurried to get it all connected. I made several mistakes which cost me a lot of time. There are several settings on this Box that you must understand in order to get it working properly however once you understand the settings, it's very easy to hook everything up properly and the quality of the picture is OUTSTANDING!I am in love with my 65in HD TV again! I connected my ATT cable box, my 5.1 surround sound stereo, the Roku, the Xbox and Google Chrome TV stick AND, my Bluray DVD player all through an additional powered HD switch box.The picture as stated is PERFECT AMAZING HD!I am truly amazed how great the picture is now, comparatively speaking! Because I wasn't able to get audio through all of the devices through a switch Box to work properly,I was able to run all the audio, through this box and it works great!Solved all of my HDMI cable, RCA and Digital Fiber Optic cable sound issues! LOVE this box!Worth every damn penny and solved most, if not all of my audio connection issues in one way or another!5 stars and well deserved! Occasionly if one of the hardware boxes or TV, "times out", from sitting unused for to long, it takes a little monkying and switching, to get the sound back but eventually with enough messing around I figured out in a minute or 2. Just FYI.It's not the box. It's the video component which is the culprit generally. Switching from one component to another and then back to the original one you're trying to get working usually fixes the audio problem... if you're going directly out to a television or surround stereo system I mean.Again, this box works great but you do have to know which connections to use with which equipment. If it doesnt work, try a different type of connector if possible. Love this box! Its fantastic!5Easy, works great, simplifies HDMI and audio connectionsThis was very easy to hook up and works great. We've got a Roku stick and a DVD player connected (previously had a 3rd device that worked too). It's great for output to our projector that only has HDMI input and also greatly simplifies connecting the sound system to use on a single input instead of needing to switch.Easy enough for everyone in the family to use.5Great HDMI switch with optical sound! Works great with my home projector, surround receiver, DVR,Roku & Apple TV. Exactly what I needed. Remote evens works. Instructions and labels aren't great, I just keep trying button combinations untitled it work. 5Great HDMI switch with great functionality and no loss in audio/video!I don't usually write reviews but felt I should for this one because for stuff like this, you're never really sure if something is going to be promising enough. I was doing research on different HDMI switch boxes and eventually decided on this one. Seemed to have the least amount of issues if any at all and seemed to work with mostly everything. It's currently just hooked up from the Roku to the TV and audio being sent to a BOSE receiver via the RCA cables from the HDMI Switch. So far, everything seems to work smoothly with no issues with the remote at all. The picture on the TV looks just the same as it did before and no loss of audio at all. The HDMI Switch outputs the audio to the BOSE receiver just fine and sounds perfect!!! It's a pretty simple setup, but gets the job done with no complaints so far. Also the lights on the box aren't overly bright. I especially appreciate that they didn't use any blue lights on the box because blue lights on these kind of things are always the worst. I also love that it's not too big either so that it doesn't take up too much space within your setup. Overall, I would highly recommend this switch because so far, it seems to work flawlessly with no loss of quality in audio/video anywhere along the way. If you've been doing research like me and you're now reading this review, stop waiting and buy this one. I'm very cautious when buying stuff like this because even at this price, you still don't want to be just throwing your money away or having to take time to get your money back from a defective product and doing a return. Go ahead and buy this switch now!5IArktech replaces Rockfish switcher effectively.Purchased this to replace a new Rockfish switcher which did not work properly out of the bix. The iArktech immediately performed exactly as intended and is running a roku ultra, blu-ray player to a vizio tv that had only one hdmi port. The iArktech switcher is simultaneously sending digital audio signal to a polk soundbar as the tv had no digital out.The switcher also automatically recognizes to switch to whatever is being used. This is the second product i have bought from iArktech through Amazon and have, so far, been pleased with the products5
