Customer Reviews

Great price, good amount of light and very easy to install. Wanted to install recessed lighting in my office but did not want to go through the hassle or expense of installing cans in the attic. I previously installed cans in the master bedroom, living room, mud room and kitchen the problem with the metal housing cans in the attic is that the cost of the baffle trim and halogen lights are expensive and cost add up quickly. After seeing these LED's in a remodeled home I decided to order 4 of them to see how they would work in my office. Installation was quick and easy I only had to go in the attic once to wire the first can the rest I wired from up from below. These are attached to a dimmer and put out a very good amount of light, they can get about as bright as needed. I purchased the 2700k warm white which is perfect for my needs.Only issue I had which has seemed to correct itself a bit is that I would get an occasional flicker of the lights. This is because of the dimmer switch I am using and not a fault of lights. After removing the dimmer and installing a standard light switch the flickers stopped. Unfortunatly I like the style dimmer I have as it matches the rest in the house and until that style is made for LED lights I can deal with the occasional flicker. It seems to be happening less and less or maybe I just don't notice it as much any more. For the price these are a great value and look great. I have had them installed now for a year and a half. 5Great value and Dimmer capabilities work flawlessly with correct Dimmer These lights are fantastic! I was a little worried about purchasing them with many reviews suggesting there was a humming noise when used with a dimmer. I actually bought 4 LED of another brand at Home Depot as backup as I was using an electrician to install the lights. They went in super easy using the Sunco brand housing units 6 Pieces 4" Remodel LED Can Air Tight IC Housing LED Recessed Lighting- UL Listed and Title 24 Certified. The next task was testing out the dimming. A CS rep from Hyperikon sent me a message after the purchase explaining that I needed to use a compatible dimmer for optimal performance. I asked them to provide me with the list which is also available on the website. My electrician used the Lutron DVCL-153P Diva Dimmer Lutron DVCL-153P-WH Diva Dimmable CFL/LED Dimmer, White, and it dims perfectly. I plan on buying several more of these and outfitting the rest of my house! 5Broken clips This product was purchased along with 6 other brands of 2700K (warm) so that we could compare all of the manufactures in preparation to replace 80 incandescent recessed lights in our home. The product was somewhat of a challenge to install, but demonstrated a generally better fit than all of the others. We narrowed down the six to four based on the color temperature of the lights. Of these four, we liked the light output of the Hyperikon the best as it was the warmest overall and found it worked the best over the dimming range than the other products. All of the pros had us leaning toward buying the 80 lights from Hyperikon until I removed the product to try another product from Optolight (locally sourced at retail, at a great price of $6.99.) When removed, one of the tabs broke off from the Hyperikon, which will make it impossible to reinstall the light. Having dealt with Hyperikon before, I know they will replace the product without question. My concern is the tabs are not spring steel as other manufacturers use. If the tabs/clips break this soon due to what must clearly be fatigue, what will happen a year or two years from now, will I have 80 lights dangling out of their cans?? In summary, I give this product 5 stars for light color and dim-able range, but 0 stars for the quality of the retaining clips. Back to the drawing board. 2Very pleased So much better for a kitchen than the 3000k. Made a huge difference. The lights were very light in weight and with no cooling fins. Technology has probably advanced enough to where they don't need them, but the 3000k LED lights that I installed last year had cooling fins. Maybe it's just a different manufacturing process, but it made me question how long they'll actually last. Still, very pleased with the look, thus far! You'll see in the picture the side by side comparison in the two lights. 5Excellent product. Outstanding customer service! The lights themselves are excellent for what they are intended to do. What impressed me was their customer service due to the fact that I had to send them back! I made a mistake in buying this particular one when I needed a different diameter. Then I waited way too long to return them. The company absolutely did not have to accept my return. I wrote and asked for permission to send them back and they were totally responsive and gracious. Of course I had to pay my own shipping but four of these weigh less than a pound so no big deal. You never see companies that bend over backward for customers like that! As for the lamps, I have others from the same company. They install easily and give a nice warm light. I used a very thin ceiling material so I had to bend the clips to make them tight, but that is easy to do. I would recommend you cut off the screw in plugs & push in clips as they give an unreliable contact, and just hard wire them with 12v bite-through connectors or crimp tubes. 5These LED lights from Hyperikon are a fantastic light. I had a low clearance attic space I live in the mountains so things are ultra quite.I am an electrician who has installed hundreds if not thousands of can lights over the years. These LED lights from Hyperikon are a fantastic light. I had a low clearance attic space, so I had to use 4" cans. These lights didn't skip a beat. Perfect 4000k light spectrum, and bright lights without a hot spot from the diode. Others warned about a hum, but with the Lutron DVCL-153P-WH Diva Dimmer I can't hear a peep. I live in a rural area, with no cars, planes, or loud sounds at all. If there was a hum, it would be a deal breaker. Zero Hum!!!! The dimmer works great also, no problems with dimming. Now it's up to the longevity of the lights, as the transformer usually goes before the diodes. So far, super happy. 5Excellent Customer Service The product itself is great (as you can see from the other reviews), however, of the 9 orders I purchased, 2 of them had the correct female orange connector while the rest had a male connector. Since the connection from the light fixtures are male, obviously this meant that the rest of my leds could not be installed that day. I contacted hyperikon customer service and they messaged me back within the hour explaining that the new stock and the new models have the correct fitting while the older ones had the male fittings, and I seemed to have gotten a mixture of both. They one day shipped me adapters to connect the rest of the lights. We exchanged emails back and forth and I always got a replay within 2 hours, they even went out of their way to call me. Excellent customer service, that will keep me on board their products despite this mistake. 5Cheap Quality - Tension Clips Break Purchased 64 lights for a new construction project. On two lights the tension clips broke in two pieces, and on three lights the rivets broke off. They either broke during installation or after the light had been installed - noticing that the light was now dropping out of the fixture. This was after installing about 50 of the lights. I've purchased many of this type of lights in the past, and these are by far the cheapest quality I've encountered. The company customer service was willing to replace them, but I'm too concerned they'll be breaking as time goes on. And, as I was removing the installed lights, two additional ones had broken as well. They were all returned to Amazon. 1Low Profile Fixture; Typical Light Output 550 Lumens This model seems highly popular, and the seller promotes it heavily. The fixture is low profile (not very tall) and electrically connects via a female pin plug or screw-socket.The dimmable feature, for ALL LED bulbs, is hit-or-miss depending on the fixture and the dimmer used. I am not using a dimmer so have no comments. Also, this model appears to have different circuitry over the years, so my 2016 may be different than someone's 2015 purchase. The 3000K rated color is about right - some 3000K are more like 3500K -- but 3000K is not as yellow as 2700K, but not like "cool" 4000K or "daylight" 5000K. Women prefer a more yellow tone as compared to 4000-5000K which reveals skin imperfections.Interestingly, the product description doesn't mention lumen output -- only the box says 550 lumens, which is about right. A incandescent 60W bulb is 840-880 lumens, so this is like a 50W incandescent (specs say 9W power usage). Two physical things stand out to me:- - light output is concentrated in the center as compared to others which disperse output more evenly around the lens; it's purely cosmetic but I noticed it.-- the lens is LESS recessed than other models (less recess provides wider light spread) and makes the fixture look larger than the 4" diameter -- when compared with my other 4" cans (with recessed BR20 CFL bulbs), these LED fixtures appear larger because of larger visible lenses due to less recess. Again, it's cosmetic, but I noticed it.Whether this model LED is better than another depends on several factors hard to assess:- Longevity -- it should last 30,000 to 50,000 hours, but we won't know for sure.- Produce the 500-600 lumens expected from 9W power usage -- if you see specs higher than 600 lumens for 9W, it's probably not true.-- Compatibility with dimmers (is it the dimmer or the LED fixture that is the issue).- Color temperature as specified, whether it be 2700K, 3000K, 4000K, etc. 3The lights themselves are okay. They light up! ... The lights themselves are fine. They are significantly brighter than the 60W regular lamps they replace, so if anything, the claimed 65W equivalency is conservative. However they don t work well with the Sunco Lighting 4" inch remodel LED can that Amazon recommends that you buy with them. The cans need a rim to hold them against the ceiling and the Hyperikon 4 Inch LED downlight has a flat rim of exactly the same size, so all you see from the edge are 2, not very neat, thicknesses of metal. I wish I had found lamps with larger rims that bevel toward the ceiling at the edges to make a more attractive edge. Such a larger rim would also help cover any raggedy edges to the hole that has to be cut in the ceiling. Furthermore, the lights have 3 retention tines that are very hard to push into the cans, the sharp trailing edges digging in hard. I've not tried to pull one out, and hope I don t have to try. The cans have 4 retention times that hold them into the ceiling; each set of times, lamp and can being wide enough to interfere with one another. After trying a couple of different dimmers, I paid a little extra for a Lutron MACL-153M, which works well with these lamps. 4
