Customer Reviews

False advertising The description says "3.5 mm (1/8 inch) stereo to 1/4 inch mono" but the packaging says the opposite: "1/4 in TS to 3.5 mm TRS." So the cable is designed to split a mono signal from a 1/4" output into both channels of a 3.5mm input. In order to use this in the opposite direction (with a 3.5mm stereo output), the signals will be added, potentially damaging your equipment. If you want to use this as a cheap way to connect a phone, tablet, computer, etc. to a PA system or sound board, use your accessibility settings to change your audio output to mono. 3An integral part of a setup for watching TV silently There are many ways one could review this product. I am choosing to give an example of how my family used it. It is a great, functional cable with many other possible uses as well. After an attempt to use My Zone Wireless Headphones was a bust for me due to its terrible sound quality, my techie husband bought this cable for me as part of a setup that allows me to listen to TV as loud as I want without disturbing him or the neighbors.I directly hook up this amp to a head phone or earbuds when I am sitting close to the TV by using a special adapter. Head phones and earbuds have a 1/8 inch (3.5 mm) male jack (AKA male connector). Without an adapter, they can't be inserted into this amp, whose plug (AKA socket, female jack, or female connector) measures 1/4 inch (6.35 mm).Because I like to move around my living room when I am watching TV, my husband also bought me a special male-to-female, headphone adapter, extension cable. The 1/4-inch, male jack of this cable fits into the 1/4-inch plug of this amp, and it has a 1/8-inch plug on its other end into which the jack of a head phone or ear bud can fit.In order to use this setup, my husband also hooked into the amp this particular male-to-male extension cable. As you can see, one end is 1/8-inch and the other is 1/4-inch in diameter. The smaller end fits into a plug on the TV. When I want to use this external speaker source, I use the TV remote to access a menu that allows me to do that. Once this system is hooked up, I can no longer adjust the sound volume on the TV itself. I use the volume control on this amp.Note that there is no On/Off switch on the particular amp we used. If you want to turn it off, so that you are not wasting electricity when it is not in use, you unhook the power cord from the far-left side of the amp. This setup is a little complicated for the non-techie to figure out on their own, but if you have anyone techie in your family who can do it for you, it works really well. 5Started being intermittent after 2 months I used to route the headphone output of a Zoom H5 to a couple of Roland Cube Steet speakers (using a Hosa 3.5 stereo splitter and two of these cords the XLR/TRS combo inputs) and it worked pretty well until approximately 2 months later whem the sound cut out to one of the speakers during a live seminar. The cords had only been touched 2 times (when I installed at home and when I removed them to transport the speakers) so I did not expect one of them to fail so quickly. 1Arrived in non working condition. I bought this back in April for a back up as cords go bad after awhile. Just took it out today and found out it doesn't work AT ALL. Since I didn't use it right away I guess I missed the return window. Now I'm stuck with a useless wire that arrived DOA. What a useless P.O.S. It was cheap 6 or 8 bucks but that's 6 or 8 bucks I feel like I just gave away. I'm going to buy another one but ANOTHER BRAND. I've been HOSED by HOSA. If you buy one check it immediately to see if it works!! 1Good and what I expected it to be It works if using 3.5mm output as the input to the Mono (for example, playing a video on phone and connecting it to a speaker using this cable would cause the sound to play from the speaker).Following cases worked:1. iPad to Mono Speaker system2. iPhone to Mono Speaker system3. CASIO to Mono Speaker system 5If this is what you need, this is what you need to get. Using this to run the speaker in my small combo amp in parallel to an extention cab, so I can run them together easily without modifing my amps wiring. (Yes, I am aware that I've reduced my impedance load. My OT can handle it.)This was simply done, and easy to reverse. The cable works well for this, and saved me having to build it myself. 4Distorted output. Utterly unusable for any purpose. Output from the cable was distorted. Imagine putting your phone next to a speaker at a concert and trying to record. The badly clipped recording you would get is exactly what this cable produces, except at staggeringly low volume levels. I tried it with multiple devices for output and input, including the use of a mixing board, and always got the same result. Returned the afternoon it arrived. As other reviewers have said, the Quality Control at Hosa Technology must be very lax or just plain nonexistent. Buy at your own risk. 1This works great if you re using a tablet with an amplifier This works great if you re using a tablet with an amplifier. I use my iPad for effects and and run it through an amp. 5They are OK but not perfect I bought these for my Korg Volca's, and in this case my Volca Sample has a 'Pan' knob. When I sweep the Pan knob, through the left channel everything is fine but when sweeping the right channel, I experience some top end attenuation (high pitched noises drop in volume) with just 1 of the 2 cables. The other cable works (mostly) as expected. 3there was a weird cycling sound that sounded like the record was being stopped once every second I bought two separate lengths to connect a photo receiver (1/4") to the aux port (3.5 mm) for a Monster speaker. On this one, there was a weird cycling sound that sounded like the record was being stopped once every second. I tossed it and ordered the UGREEN branded one which works perfectly. 1
