Self starter! I noticed other reviews stating these lamps will come on....on their own.We have noticed the same thing. My husband swore I was trying to gaslight him the first few weeks we had them on our night stands. He would turn his off and find it back on a few hours later. The one on my side of the bed does the same thing, now days we just write it off to the quirk of the lamps.Over the last couple of years we have purchased five sets of these lamps because they do make great lamps for night stands. They provide a low light that is bright enough to read by on the high setting, on the low setting the light is just enough to scoot around the bed without waking up a partner from a bright light or bumping into things.I do make a habit of unplugging them if we are going out of town. I don't think they are a fire hazard of any kind, but figure better safe then sorry since the do have a mind of their own on occasion. My son joked we may have a ghost...if we do it likes to travel cuz we have moved three times since the first purchase of the lamps and they have done the self start thing in every home we have relocated to! One set went to his new apartment and he has the same thing happen! I guess it is a quirk for the lamp! 5If I hadn't read the reviews I probably would have been annoyed and sent them back These lamps are petite. I had some reservations because of previous reviews, but based on the price of other touch lamps it was worth the risk. When I opened the box there was no paperwork/instructions in the box. Because I read the other reviews, I was ready with tiny based regular bulbs. As others mentioned the base was slightly crooked, I knew the coming in, so I just bent it to be upright. If I hadn't read the reviews I probably would have been annoyed and sent them back. It took me a while to figure out that there was a plastic nut to unscrew from the base to put over the lamp shade to keep it on. Until I did, I was also frustrated with the shade setting on top unsecured. But, in the end I figured out the nut. I use them on my nightstands in the bedroom. While they look petite, they do the job as far as lighting goes. The three brightnesses are perfect for reading or leaving on for a nightlight. One of them seems to be a bit sensitive. If we screw the bulb in tight it doesn't work. We have to unscrew a slight amount and it works perfectly. It hasn't gone on 'by itself' after a few weeks of use. It will turn on, however, if the end of the phone charger touches it. Overall, I'm satisfied and happy with the price. 4They're very great for ambient light and I love that they're so ... At first I really loved these lamps, they are cute and tiny and provide really nice mood lighting. But soon after replacing one of the bulbs, the dimmer stopped working. As in, I will touch it and nothing happens, no dimming and no turning off. Still, one of my lamps are fine and now I just leave it on all the time, but the other lamp blows through lightbulbs about once a month. I have only replaced the bulb in the other one once, the second lamp has eaten through 10 bulbs in the span of a few months. I am really frustrated about this as it is annoying to have to purchase a new set of bulbs so often. I definitely think that these are cheaply made and have a lot of defects. They aren't really worth the price, even if they aren't very expensive they've cost me more than I wanted to spend in replaced bulbs. 3We love these lamps We purchased this set of lamps for our bedside nightstands back in 2015 (two years ago as of the date of this review). We were looking for touch lamps in particular to prepare for the arrival of our baby, being that she was going to be sleeping in a pack n play next to our bed for the first couple of months, and we wanted something convenient and SILENT. These fit the bill. The touch is quite sensitive and I like that they have three brightness settings. The low is perfect for middle of the night diaper changes while the high is enough to light the whole room. You do have to scroll through all the settings to turn it off, but you can do it super fast. They're still going strong after two years, we haven't had any issues with them and haven't had to change bulbs out (we ordered the Westinghouse 4023 40-Watt, B 9-1/2 Decorative Ceiling Fan Bulb, Candelabra Base, Clear 2-Pack to go with them). It's also nice that they are sleek and stylish and go nicely with our decor, and don't take up too much room on our nightstands. I would recommend them. 5Great Little Lamps - Just a few tips tho. I read several reviews that varied in star ratings. I decided to make the purchase. They are quite cute and work fine. Another reviewer had stated they purchased the 60W candelabra bulbs... so I did the same. MISTAKE!! The 60W bulbs I bought were obviously to big for the lamp and got hot immediately. I recommend 40W and smaller. I used frosted ones and they work fine.Be sure to buy the recommended 40W max bulbs. Thankfully we had some at home and they work perfect. The lamps have a 3 way touch setting and the lowest is perfect for a night light. The other two settings are quite appropriate for a bedside lamp in my opinion.Take note, these are tiny lamps being shorter than a roll of paper towel and about as big around as a regular roll (I made the comparison.)The reason I gave them 4 stars rather than 5 is because as other buyers stated, the shades were slightly bent and required a little elbow grease. (but remember these are a $15 dollar lamp!). Also, the felt on the bottom of one was mashed over slightly and I had to fix that.Overall I liked them. I had taken two photos to insert, but sadly.... only videos seem to be allowed. 4Touch Lamps These lamps are wonderful!! They look great and they are the perfect size for my bedside table and the end table beside the glider I nurse my baby in. I needed a light I could turn on quickly when our new baby wakes up and one with different light levels so I can keep it dim when we are putting her to sleep and bright enough to see for diaper changes without disturbing my husband. The touch is very sensitive ...I don't have to tap it hard to turn it on and it does not turn on by itself like other touch lamps I have had. You do not need special 3-way bulbs for it as we thought we would...regular bulbs will work. I am using 25 watt candelabra bulbs and they are perfect. Wish I would have bought them sooner and we will be buying another set for a different room in the house. Keep in mind that they are small lamps, only 9 inches tall. This works great for me as I keep a lot of clutter on my bedside table and like having the extra space. I actually bought these because my old lamp was tall and would shine down into my baby's rocker beside the bed and she could look up directly at the bulbs. These touch lamps are short with no space between the base and shade so the light shines up toward the ceiling. Can't say enough good things!! 5Big things come in small packages after deciding to turn my Living Room built in into a Rat Pack style dry bar I embarked on the search for short, stylish table lamps that would fit in the shelf and not obstruct the prep space . I hit it out the park with these . the small size allows them to fit in the overhang corner . The touch sensor feature is awesome because there is no groping for a switch in the dark . however it may pose a problem in households with kids . concerned with overheating I used 40 watt clear bulbs . on the lowest setting they're night lights ; medium setting ambient light and high setting task lighting . I actually find them to be brighter than the full size lamps they replaced . I have included pictures on all three settings . I spray painted the bases gold so they are lighter than they will appear in these pictures . The simple style will work well with modern, contemporary and transitional spaces and especially for a boy or girl teenager / young adult . you won't be disappointed 5Great concept, poor performance. I bought these set thinking that it was beautiful and very convenient for the price. We set them on our nightstands, one by each side of bed, and they looked beautiful. Then on to put a lightbulb and test, and one lamp worked perfect while the other had a mind of its own. It would randomly turn off and on by itself. So I sent them back, got a refund, and ordered a (more expensive now??) new set. Got my new set, and lo and behold! Same thing! Its like they build these lamps on two different factories and one is managed by dark forces that like to torment you in the middle of the night. 1Nice lamps, as advertised Just as advertised. For some reason I wasn't able to get LED lights to work in them, but standard incandescents work fine. They respond quickly and well to me fumbling in the direction of the lamp on the nightstand and making contact at night. Keep in mind these are quite small, to fit a small nightstand. They're well built, but they're so small they're easy to knock about. My biggest complaint about touch lamps of this type is that the chip designers don't think about the user experience. You HAVE to cycle through all three light levels to turn these off. In general the lowest light level is perfectly adequate for getting up in the middle of the night without making it hard to go back to sleep again, and it should be possible to go from that back to "off" if you leave it at low for more than a few seconds. Unfortunately, you must go through medium and bright to get back to off. That's a small quibble, though. Most folks will find these work well for them. Bright is bright enough to fully illuminate a small bedroom, and medium is good for reading a bit before bedtime. 4Love these little lamps!! I was worried about getting dented shades, which I read about in some reviews, and I did get a small dent in one. I simply held my hair dryer over the dent for a minute and removed it. Other than that, the lamps work well, one, two and three touches for brightness. Nice brushed nickel look finish. Not too bright, but with today's readers I don't really need light for reading paper books. It's more for mood lighting. If you're looking for lamps that give off light to accomplish anything with, these will not work for you. They are nice small decorative accent lights. I really like them.Update: 02/21/13: ( One fried out when touched because of static electricity. Have had for just 2 months. Too bad, they really looked awesome and gave off great ambient bedroom lighting. 5
