It's a dirty job, but Drain King saved our plumbing It's a dirty job, but Drain King saved our plumbing, when nothing else did. Not even pumping the septic tank. Rotorooter quoted us nearly $700 for the job. That savings alone is worth more than five stars to me! As an added bonus, it's ridiculously easy to use. No skills required, other than finding an opening for you pipes. Screw it onto the end of a hose. Push it into the pipe. Turn on the Water. Possibly repeat since cleaner pipes siphon more junk from the upstream lines. That's it. Job's done. 5Life saver I am not in the habit of leaving reviews, I buy a lot of stuff on Amazon and rarely say anything. I feel compelled to write one for this product.Every possible annoying expense has hit me in the past month, hasn't been a good year so far; rain/pour- I take a shower and shave on Wednesday, go down stairs and there is green water in my kitchen sink and dishwasher and the house smells like sewage.Not exactly sure what has happened, I check a couple of things, think about it for a while, recollect that my kitchen sink has been sluggish, and figure I'll leave it and maybe it was just some weird combination of rain (it's been raining for days) and everything else. Plus I just don't want to think about it.Come back later, it's all gone, I keep moving on. Later that day, while using the kitchen sink, it starts backing up. So I stop what I'm doing. I go upstairs, try out the bathroom sink and shower, and once again, the sink fills up. Great.Anyway, this slow drain, fill back up, slow drain continues for a day. Finally I give up hope and realize I'm going to have to do something, I try plunging to no avail, I try chemicals, no luck. I let it drain over night. Next day take the sink apart, check the p trap, it's clear. I go borrow a 25' hand snake.I feed it in, struggle with all the elbows between me and the clog, finally get there (18' approximately), fiddle with it, pull out some hair and gunk, but the end result is me pushing the clog to another elbow (I guess) where I can't get the snake to continue. Great. I tried snaking from the upstairs, no luck. Just making things worse, where as before it would drain slowly, now it doesn't drain at all, complete blockage. Also, during this mess, I broke the snake.So I get on amazon to buy a new snake for my friend and I start searching around. Not feeling real good about my chances of resolving this without a $200+ plumbing bill, then I see this beauty...Read the reviews, it was only $10, decided to try it.Awesome product. Despite being very nervous about the prospect of sewage water and chemicals firing out of every drain in my house, I put it in the kitchen sink downspout, and slowly turned it on. Ran back inside, weird noises, a little scary, but no geysers anywhere. Ran outside, cranked the hose all the way on, ran back in, still anxious about water and chemicals everywhere, still just noise, ran upstairs, sinks ok, showers ok, tub ok. Went back down, read the instructions again. Still just noise.I let it run for a while (5 minutes?) go outside, disconnect the hose at the spigot, then back in to see what's what. Pull it out of the drain. No water that I can feel in the pipe, good sign. Hook the pipes up, let the sink run for a couple of minutes and...no more clog!This thing is awesome. There is no way I was going to get at this clog with a snake and chemicals (lots of chemicals!) were not working.The instructions say not to use with chemicals, which I'm sure is for safety and probably for the good of the attachment, but I went ahead anyway and just made sure the dogs were outside and my face didn't get anywhere close to where blow-back might happen.Anyway, for any clogs in the future, after plunging, this god send will be my next option. Even if I had to buy a new one for every job, I'd do it, it's not much more expensive than chemicals but more effective.I will recommend this to anyone and everyone, if you've got a difficult clog, and you don't want to hire a plumber, your snake-ing skills are sub par, and you aren't particularly patient, the Drain King is for you!Also, major thanks to the amazon community for consistent reviewers, I should do it more often, but I never would have bought this had I not read so many positive reviews. And they were all correct. Great job Amazonians! 5From a minor problem to deep S*** I have used these for years. In fact I have 3 other Drain Kings of various sizes that are more than 25 years old. I ran into a problem on a 3" S&D drain pipe with a blockage. The pipe is used to drain my rain gutters. I decided to buy a new Drain King because the others were old. I pushed the new Drain King into the pipe up to the blockage (about 6 feet) and turned it on slowly like the directions say and it promptly exploded into two parts. There was about an inch of it still attached to the hose which I was able to remove, but the other six inches was stuck down in the drain pipe which is buried 2 feet in the ground. So now I have to get a $100.00 an hour plumber to try and remove the clog which is roots, leaves and the remnants of a Drain King. My old drain kings still work by the way!. 1Drain King Saved My Manhood ! This thing is a life saver. I had used the ones from lowes/home depot and went through 6 of them (all junk). They all exploded and they were the right size for my 3" mobile home waste pipes.I must have spent close to a thousand dollars on drain cleaners and plumbing snake rentals. Every step of the way, I was getting my rear kicked. My pride was on the line. The wife is seeing me fail to a kitchen sink clog - a stinking clog.I have no problems getting a jackhammer or digging up the main line, however; this was the clog from hell. I got up on the roof and snaked all the plumbing vents with a 100 foot snake but this did not help either.Then I discovered this little jewel which hums or rattles at the end sending vibrations through the water and pipes. I opened up a sewer cleanout under the sink and jammed this thing into the waste line about 6 inches and yelled to the wife to hit the gas and turned it on full blast. I turned it on and off repeatedly for 5-10 minutes to shock everything in the waste pipes. I had water blowing out a roof plumbing vent pipe and then ..... whoosh" ....... This kitchen sink has been a nightmare for years until it got a rude introduction to the Drain King.The ulimate man test was to fill both sides of the kitchen sink to the brim and then release all the water. It brought a tear to my eye to see double mini whirlpools as the drains pulled like I have never seen them pull water in almost 20 years living here. I was so happy I bought another one as a back-up Drain King and for the price it was a no brainer. I could look the wife in the eye and beat my chest to say "I kicked the clogs rear" and not the other way around. Trust a brother. You will not regret the purchase.Make sure you get the right size and insert it fully into the pipes or the bladders will explode so heads up otherwise if you are on the fence on what to buy, buy this one. 5Wear PPE! The tool I got was a Drain King brand. Does it work? I suppose so, but keep in mind these don t last forever. If you have serious clogs to deal with, the rubber WILL fatigue over time. I used mine to clear clogs in an underground pipe running from a pool s skimmer basket to the filter pump. I used it about 4 times total. The last time I used it, I was wearing safety glasses and holding it with both hands in the orifice of the skimmer return. Before the pressure released, the balloon filled and before I could reach the valve to shut the water off, this tool burst apart. It exploded with force and caused me to fall with both arms into the skimmer basket hole. Both arms of a grown man will not fit together into a skimmer basket hole. Maybe I should have worn long sleeves. I got cuts and bruises on both forearms. Painful lesson! Still didn t clear the clog so I had to use other means. It had worked in the past, though. So, yeah, it works but eventually the rubber bladder with have stress fatigue and fail when it s bloated with water. When it does, you ll have a catastrophic mess. Just remember to wear safety glasses and work safely. There s an inherent risk of injury with this tool since it s designed to work under great pressure.Personally, I ve changed my method of clearing pool drain clogs. I now use a toilet plunger and a pressure washer attachment designed to clear sewer pipes. 2Believe in the reviews. This thing works! This product definitely saved me money when used properly. My plumbing credentials only involve household DIY projects, which means plenty of trial and error, and water in places it should not be.The origin of this journey started with a kitchen sink that would not drain. I apologize for the long post.TL;DR - Make sure you put the Drain King bladder in a pipe that is vertical and has no other areas in the house for water to escape except for where the blockage.Tried a plunger to no avail, so I found a bucket, placed it underneath the drain trap, and took apart the pipe. Water drained and it confirmed there was a blockage somewhere further down the line, possibly in the pipe underneath the house's crawl space, or worse, in the pipe under concrete near the public sewer.Drove to the local home improvement store and bought a 25ft auger. Opened the clear-out under the sink and started to snake the line. Managed to pull some nasty black gunk. Reassembled the trap, ran water, but alas, it didn't work and sink filled with water. Went out and bought drain cleaner. Poured it down the sink and left it overnight.The next morning, tried running hot water but the clog would not clear. Went on amazon to find a longer auger because I thought maybe 25ft wasn't enough. Upon browsing, I saw the Drain King with the really high rating and product reviews. It was cheaper than an auger and with a couple of other purchases, I was able to get it delivered in the same day. On a Saturday to boot! When it arrived after noon, I decided to give a try in the clear-out, hooking it up to my garden hose and feeding it through my kitchen window, by myself without waiting to my family to get home. Big mistake! Turned on the water from the backyard, heard loud vibrating noise within the pipe, but also a sound of a waterfall under the house. Shut the water off, looked under the house and saw water coming out of an old galvanized pipe like a waterfall. Ran back inside and saw the big uh-oh! There was black smelly water coming out of the pipe past the bladder. When my family arrived home, I found out there was also black water in the upstairs bathtub. It appears the kitchen sink and the bathtub were connected to the same sewer pipe. Yikes!Crawled underneath the house and after much debate, decided to cut out the rusted section of pipe, drove back to the store and replaced it with ABS pipe and rubber couplers. Thought I was being smart by plugging up the bathtub. Started the water again when I heard a yell from inside to stop! Forgot to cover the overflow drain in the tub so black water was still making its way into the tub. It was late so I called it a night.The next morning, went to the store again and bought a cap for my kitchen pipe. Closed the clear-out and capped the pipe under the kitchen sink. I climbed up onto the roof to feed the hose through the bathroom window. Shoved the bladder down the tub overflow drain and started the water. Lots of vibrating noise coming from the pipes until water started to come out of the vent on the roof. I was about to throw in the towel and sat down with a feeling of defeat, ready to concede and call the plumber.But I had one last ditch plan. I tried the previous night to feed the bladder down the pipe I just replaced that headed down the cement foundation but I wasn't able to bend the bladder down the 90 degree bend. I gave it another try and after a lot of hose forcing and twisting, the bladder was far enough down to give it one last shot. The pipes vibrated and all of a sudden, after a few minutes, it seemed to hum. Took it out and had the tub drained while I watched the water beautifully flow down without any obstruction. A very satisfied customer. 5Saved me $200 My neighbor's trees hang over my fence and in the fall I get nothing but leaves in my pool. Even though I have a skimmer basket leaves will get into the drains. Last time it cost me $200 for the pool company to blow my lines free. I decided to YouTube it because I can't keep affording to pay $200 every time this happens and if I don't get it cleared it'll burn out my motor. I saw this tool on YouTube and it works like a dream Simply Connected to your hose put it down your skimmer pipe and turn on the hose in 60 seconds it has flushed your drain and saved you $200. 5Works Great .. As Long As The Water Can't Go Anywhere Else! I had a bathroom sink drain that was absolutely and completely clogged. I couldn't get to the clog with a snake and three different "guaranteed to work" chemicals failed me. I bought the drain king as a last ditch effort before calling in a plumber.I made sure that the sink didn't share a drain line with anything else - thankfully it didn't, so no problem with backing up into another sink or toilet. So I attached the drain king and it made the pulsating / banging sound that everyone else described. The problem was that after several 5 minute attempts the drain was as blocked as when I started. Then my wife said "Why is there water pouring down the side of the house. Light bulb! The water was going up the vent out onto the roof of the house. Thankfully the sink didn't share a vent with anything else either. The FAQ on the drain king web page says to make sure that it is inserted past the point of any lateral vents - not an option in my case. I climbed up onto the roof and using a combination of rags and an inflatable ball I completely sealed off the vent. Then I tried again - this time it took about 30 seconds to completely remove the clog. 5THE KING RULES! Had a washer drain that was slow draining and would overflow onto the floor when the washer drained. Also would back up in the utility sink.Bought this based on the reviews on Amazon. I like to believe these reviews are honest so others can make a somewhat educated purchase.Read the instructions and gave it a try. I had visions of burst pipes, flooded laundry room, wife yelling about my intelligence, the whole deal.Connected it to a hose. Connected the hose to the tap in the utility sink. Stuck the rubber thing down the drain as far as it would go. Turned on the water slowly like the instructions said. Heard a sound of water running and then a sound like a vibration in the drain. Let it work for about 5 min. and then took it out of the drain after turning the water off. Repeated the process again but didn't put it as deep into the drain. Again the sound and let it run for about 5 min. Then took it out of the drain after turning the water off.Filled the washer and let it run and then drain. No overflow from the drain pipe and no back up into the utility sink.The last time I had a drain problem it cost me $438.00.I don't know exactly how it works and don't need to know. But I do know IT WORKS.The only thing I don't like is that it took me so long to discover this amazing tool. Every house should have one. 5OH MY GOSH!!! MY STORY-- Kitchen sink clogged. Every other drain was working, even the dishwasher right beside the sink. I used enzyme cleaner every night for 3 nights. Still clogged.Called a contractor friend, a "Jack of all Trades" whose name is Jack. He said to use gel drain cleaner. I did. Drain still clogged, but now poisonous gas was everywhere! DO NOT USE THAT STUFF, especially if you have cast iron pipes!Then I called a plumber friend and he told me to use a snake. I had one. Looking at photos I sent him, he also said the plumbing was done wrong. (There were 2 P-traps, one for each 'bowl'.) So, I decided to correct the plumbing, since I had to take it all apart to make sure the clog was not in those pipes and to do the snaking.There was no clog in those pipes, so that meant the clog was inside the outside wall. When all was apart and I had direct access to the pipe in the wall, I used the snake. What a horrible job, cramped under the sink, feeding 25 feet, one foot at a time. My head started screaming with pain. I got up and was quite dizzy. I realized it was from inhaling the chlorine fumes. (Chlorine is DEADLY.) Had to attic fan the house and go lie down at my neighbor's.After that horrendous job, I finished re-plumbing (it does look lovely now) and ran the water. STILL CLOGGED!!Then plumber friend suggested all KINDS of Heavy Duty 'solutions', with industrial augers and such. I gave up for the day. When I awoke, it dawned on me that, since it didn't take much water to fill up the pipes, the clog MUST be close.Telling a neighbor handyman-type about it all, HE mentioned this gadget. So, I researched it and watched YouTube videos. It made sense. I bought the 1-2" one for the 1.5" piping. It ends up that this was THE size to get.Still, I was leery, after both Jack and Jeff (both long-time contractors) were warning me against this thing. They also warned me about checking to see if another pipe came in. That might cause the water to go where it wasn't supposed to.Bottom line ... It worked like a champ!!Since the pipe in the wall turns almost immediately to the right and down (I stuck my finger in it), I had to force this device in and it had to turn with the pipe. (I was glad I got the gadget with the metal end.) It was just barely all the way in and wouldn't go further. (I had attached a hose to the sink faucet with an adapter, so I could better monitor things.) I turned on the water VERY slowly. Nothing was leaking. YAY. I was then able to gradually turn it on to full force and nothing blew apart or leaked. Nice.I could hear noise, but to me, it did not sound like the pulsating sound I thought I'd hear. If the pulses were very close together, that might have been the sound I heard. After about 30 seconds, the sound evened out. I let it run for maybe another minute. That was all it took. Less than 2 minutes!I put all the plumbing back. After having the sink backed up for two weeks, and with all the failed attempts, I kept looking down the sink as I was using the water. I couldn't believe it wasn't backing up. HA! So far, all seems good! I cleaned of the gadget and it seems ready to go again. However, even if I had to buy a different one for every clog, THIS is the way to go!!WHAT A SUPER INVENTION!!!!!! My suggestion? Use this FIRST. Good luck!!If I can do this, you can do this. After all, I'm just a 111-pound girl, and naturally blonde. :-) 5
