Customer Reviews

A handy item for your tool box. This is one of those tools that saves you time when going to the hardware store to by replacement fasteners for projects in the home or garage. It's a necessary tool if you are working on mid 1980's to early 1990's cars or trucks because the auto companies were transitioning from SAE hardware to metric sizes. I've come across carburetor mounting studs that were 5/16x 24 on the top and 8mm where they threaded into the manifold. This tool takes the guess work out of determining what thread pitch fastener you need.4Provides Broad Range of Choices for the priceThe full range of choices may make this a little difficult to use but the fact that it has a full range makes it close to the only thread pitch gauge you will need. To speed up testing you do have to narrow down the options to a range by eyeballing the thread and pick the closest range of gauges to check in more detail. Clearly, this works best on bolts, not nuts, which are loose and easily handled in good light. The bolt thread needs to be matched to the gauge mostly by sight. Nuts are more difficult since the gauge needs to be inserted into the nut to check the thread gauge. Very small nuts, obviously, will present a problem. The gauge becomes more difficult to use if you are trying to check thread gauge in place and must bend and twist your body, and look in dark places. For those uses and if a standard, common thread gauge is likely, twisting on a test nut or trying out a test bolt will give a tactile confirmation once you have found the right gauge. However, gauges designed with actual bolts or nuts on some kind of string (to keep them together so they don't get lost) also have their defects since they become hard to twist in tight dark places. It seems most of these thread gauges are designed to be used best with loose nuts and bolts.5Made in India thread gauge.UPC 097257354284 Grip model number 35428 SAE 4 to 42 tpi, .25 to 5.5mm metric. Item dimensions (closed) approx 3" long by 1/2" square. Thread measuring tabs have about 1/2" worth of teeth. "V-US-AMER-NAT" stamped on one side, "METRIC 60" (degrees) stamped on the other. No other identifying marks on the instrument. All markings etched/stamped into the metal.3No Issues. Why would anyone need to pay for a more expensive thread gauge? The layout is a little weird. For some reason each side has some metric and some imperial threads, you'd think they'd put metric on one side and imperial on the other... but as long as you understand it, who cares?Works fine, accurate, buy two because you'll end up loaning one out and not get it back.5Not goodImpossible to read . Plus SAE and MM were mixed up and not in order1Does what I need it to...The price was right and I checked a random sampling of the available sizes with our optical comparitor at work and found them to be pretty accurate. The physical quality of the these is not so good (ie. poor sheet metal sheer leaving rough edges in some areas) but overall it is suitable for my application as a reference tool. If you need something for measurement of production parts on a regular basis, I would probably look elsewhere.4GGood Thread Pitch Gauge- I wish it was made from stainless, although I know that would drive the cost up higher it wouldn't get rusty as we all know "that's never good". I like that it measures Standard/Metric, I have have both gauges separated and it seems to grow legs and walk away from each other making me always waste time when I need to find one or the other. The 2 in one is genius and convenient,5Easy to read gaugesThis is a convenient set of thread pitch gauges with metric on one half and SAE on the other. The blades are stamped with the sizes and they are very easy to read. After reading reviews on other gauges, one of the biggest complaints seemed to be that blades were not stamped deep enough or that if ink was used it wore off or got smudged from grease or oil. The blades themselves are stiff and sturdy and the pitch cuts are sharp and accurate. There are cheaper gauges out there or ones that seem unreasonably expensive but I have no regrets about buying this set.5Its a good product. The only reason I didn't give it ...It was inexpensive, sufficient strength and well put together. Measured the thread I needed without a hitch. Its a good product. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star is for someone who has no knowledge of how threads are measured I had to search the net to figure out which side was which. There are two standards in the way threads are measured, and the way it was stamped on the side of the tool just wasn't very intuitive on which side was for which standard.4Good deal Good enough... if your super rich and super picky, you need to have higher quality, but good luck finding one... this is still very good quality. Works well for my needs as a machine technician who may need to identify threads sometimes. 5happy I'm very happy with the quality of this. I had 2 metric and standard that came with a irwin tap & die set. Never fails, I would grab the wrong one, can't fiind the other one, then some were not made good enough to use. This one, all the leaves are good.update 12/31/17Seems I'm the only mechanic where I work who knows how to operate this and a caliper to figure out the thread pitch and size of a fastener. The only problem I ever had was the one time one of the screws came loose and the leaves on that side all fell out. It took me quite some time to get them all back on how they belong. Now I remember to tighten it good after every use. 5Disappointed gaugeThis tool was too small with an average hand size. Over paying for this tool, and only worth half of the price and the quality was fair.1Really intensive... has threads i never hear of! This is a really REALLY intensive gauge. It has sizes on there that I am not sure even exist! Just the same,,, its really useful when you have to match or identify a thread. Note though that when you do internal threads,,, its difficult to use. 5
