... solution so that my grandfather could listen to his favorite CDs in his room in his nursing home We bought this boombox for a very simple solution so that my grandfather could listen to his favorite CDs in his room in his nursing home. He is 93 years old, so we were looking for something with really simple button solutions for him to play, pause, and adjust volume. He's found it manageable to operate and really enjoys listening to the music. A great bargain and definitely fulfilled the simple solution that we were hoping for. 5I looked to return it to get a better one and return shipping would have cost me about ... The AM/FM works as you would expect, but the CD player is awful. It doesn't work most of the time, and when you can finally get it to work it takes a long while to read the disc. I've tried to use brand new CD's in it so I know it's not the CD itself causing the problem.I looked to return it to get a better one and return shipping would have cost me about half of what I paid for it, so that wasn't worth it.I guess if you're just looking for radio (AM/FM) it will do the job for you, but I would absolutely never recommend this product to anyone otherwise. 1We burned a few cds with some of my sons favorite songs on them to teach him how to be ... This was a Christmas gift for our 4 year old. He loves to listen to music and has a hard time playing in his room by himself. So I was thinking that maybe to have his own boombox would help. A few reasons I picked this one;1. It was cheap, I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a boombox for a 4 year old..2. It has a CD player and fm/am radio.3. It can be plugged into the wall or used with batteries.4. This was the big one, you can go to the exact radio station number you want, instead of trying to move that dial back and forth until you hit a radio station. We burned a few cds with some of my sons favorite songs on them to teach him how to be responsible with stuff like that and he's actually doing very well. He learned very quickly how to change the cds out, to turn it on and off, to switch between cd and radio and he's being playing in his room alone a lot more. I recommend! 5It's a cheap boombox...Sounds great I saw some bad reviews, but I don't get it. It's a cheap boombox, what were you expecting? It arrived on time, and it works. So simple to use that you don't need to read the instructions. Just throw in the CD and push play. BAM. Music. I got this for my Grandma to listen to her Elvis collection. Sounds great! 5You Get a What You Pay For I bought this stereo because I drive a truck for approximately 10 hours a day, and needed something to pass the time. The only good thing is that the battery lasts about a week to a week and a half. I've had worse battery life electronics...so I'm satisfied. Now, for the bad:- Antena broke off the first day of use. It didn't take much, I just attempted to make it longer- Awful at picking up stations. Got about 3 stations. The clarity doesn't last long however- When I get sick of continuously looking for a clear station, I use the CD player option. Stereo is NOT meant for moving while playing CDs. Songs CONSTANTLY skip!Hope this was helpful. 2Affordable and Powerful It's true that the digital age is upon us, and CDs are not exactly as popular as they once were. However, some of us still have huge CD libraries. I have one of these CD players which is 3 years old and still running. So when another CD player I had broke, I ordered one of these without hesitation.PROS (1) Affordable. (2) Surprisingly attractive design. (3) Plays CDs very well. (Including burned from laptop CDs) (4) Surprisingly powerful for such a tiny machine. Don't ask ne how it fills such a large room. But it DOES! (5) Because it's small, it's easy to find a spot for.(6) Unlike some brands, there is plenty of room to get the cd in and out without having to play surgeon.CONS (1) Kind of a minor issue, but worth mentioning. When you open the bottom (to get the power cord out), you may find it's not so easy to snap the bottom back on. This obviously doesn't stop you from using the radio or CD player. But it is a strange con.FINAL ANALYSIS What's not to like? It's an affordable price; it has an attractive design; it's easy to find a place for; and it's surprisingly powerful. I can recommend this without reservation. BUY AND ENJOY! 5Broken upon delivery Item was shipped to me and wouldn't play a CD. I tried a few different like new CDs and nothing. Contacted customer service and they were horrible . Let me know my product was defective and then wanted to charge me to ship it back. Luckily I can ship it back for free through Amazon otherwise I would be enraged Sent back already. Player looked very cheap as well. Would not recommend. 1We decided that it should be better to use it while plugged I bought this for my 3 year old son since he wanted to play his CDs. We tried it with batteries first. After 2 days, CD stopped working. It was rotating but without sound. We realized that the batteries were drained. We decided that it should be better to use it while plugged. It has been more than 6 months, and it is still working fine in spite of daily abuse of a toddler. Not the best sound quality, but I guess a great choice for a toddler. It is very simple to use, and it looks like it will last a long time. 4Cheap, lower-quality After a friend mentioned he wished he had a CD player for his holiday party, we decided to purchase him a boombox; we'd have preferred to have bought something more substantial but didn't, at the time, have the funds so settled on this. I wish we could have waited: the sound was weak and at once tinny and mushy, and, better still, the CD's he used skipped on occasion. The power also came and went, probably due to a loose adapter connection, I would assume. The size of it was nice and it's attractive, in a rather sleek, bare-bones way, and the controls were clear. I should have known to be hesitant, though: over the years I've learned that GPX products are generally substandard, and that's being generous. Of course, YOU may have better luck with this purchase. Caveat emptor. 2DON'T DO IT....BUY THIS, THAT IS!!! UNLESS YOU LIKE HEADACHES. Don't buy this rubbish. Couldn't make it work the first time, returned it after two different customer support agents told me to press two different buttons to make the CD start...neither of which worked...and the battery tray seemed very tight for the batteries which kept falling out...I spent the better part of 4 hours yesterday trying to make it work.........Utter garbage. I returned it. Amazon was great and paid the return shipping after the GPX people said I had to pay it...Received the replacement today and it still doesn't work on CD mode. The instructions are hopeless and the boom box is very heavy anyway. 1
