Customer Reviews

DO NOT BUY !! 2nd failed driveI have purchased two of these drives, the first randomly became write protected with no way to release. The second drive which was the replacement randomly became unreadable and all attempts to repair or reformat the drive are unsuccessful....DO NOT BUY1Broke it ... then fixed it.Orignal review:Its a nice USB drive. I bought 2 of the 64gb drives. Very nice. I bought them for backing up smaller amounts of data. Put the first one in and after a while it disappeared from my desktop. I pulled up disk utility and the app hung. Removed the USB drive and the disk utility popped up. Plugged USB drive back in and the utility hung and no drive on desktop. Clearly not suited for my computer. Hope you have better luck. Since I bought them for backup purpose and have no faith in them ... mine are going in the recycle bin.Updated review 1 day later:I used a console and diskutil command and got the volume on the USB drive to mount. This allowed me to use the diskutil app to repair the volume. I think that there was an error during a copy which caused this USB drive to eject without unmounting the filesystem properly. Sooooo ... hanging this problem on the operating system ... not the drive itself.Bottom line ... I updated my rating from 1 star to 4 stars. If it were physically larger then I could grab it easier to get the stubborn protective cap off and I would rate it higher. Only have a USB 2 port and so can't run speed tests which could push this to a 5 star rating.4TOP Quality Service and MerchandiseI bought these 6 months ago and put them in a drawer for later use--great price. I opened one last week and it did not work! The other was fine. When I told the seller--really not expecting any help after 6 months--he immediately sent me a new one to replace the "dud" and was SO courteous! I will shop here from now on. Buy with confidence!5ExcellentI have a 16GB, 32GB, & a 64GB version. All of them are great. I keep one on my key ring and I have never broken a case or end-loop. I have broken a LOT of other cases and clips. The storage has never failed either.Other Thoughts: It's USB2, not USB3. That's OK and as advertised but people expecting blazing speeds need look elsewhere. Even today, much of what I plug into still doesn't have USB3. Or, it has USB3 but we're reading or writing to an abysmally slow HD that is the bottleneck. I'm not transferring movies, just a GB or two of stuff at most so speed is not an issue. The cap can be put on the end of the stick when not in use but not if it's on a key ring.Your "friends" will "accidentally" end up with it. They are cool; the drives, that is.5Best flashdrive i've seen Now i am never caught without a flash drive, i keep this bad boy on my key-chain with no worries of it being damaged. It has been exposed to long periods of being outside during winter, rain storms, being dropped/thrown at things, and still functions at 100%It feels EXTREMELY durable, the key-ring attachment is metal and the cap fits on very snug creating a waterproof seal up to 65 feet (I have only tested 3-5 feet below the water's surface myself). I would suggest this flash drive to EVERYONE, no matter the application. If you want to feel safe and secure carrying important information related to school/work/building projects/anything, this is the way to go. 5Best durable drive on the market. As a police officer I'm pretty hard on gear. I've gone through multiple flash drives from Tough Drives to Corsair Voyager and all have failed. The GorillaDrives are the best drives I own. I have bought many as gifts and because I keep upgrading to more storage space because I know the Gorilla Drive wont let me down. I've currently been using my current drive for 3 years with no issues5Dead Within 6 Months With Very Little UseThis was my go-to brand for USB drives until today. I've purchased a few of these due to their military grade for storing files offline, but today had a drive I'd only used 3 or 4 times before during the previous 6 months completely fail on me. I can't access any of the data on it and have been unable to get any device to recognize it. The whole reason I'd gone with this brand was due to their supposed ruggedness. But for a drive to suffer complete, catastrophic data with so little use? I only hope I can find a way to somehow get the data off of it, but am running out of hope at this point. Avoid these drives.1Dont bother. 1st one I ordered worked the first time I plugged it in and when I tried again the next day it was corrupted and wouldnt open on any computer I tried it on. Contacted support, sent it back, got a refund, ordered another one because I really liked the look of this flash drive. New one came in on time, and worked properly for about a month. Few days ago plugged it in and the important documents I had on it were gone and replaced with dozens of setup programs and files for the drive that werent there at first and the Total storage size of the drive say it can only hold 34 Gb. Support said to send this one in for a refund and a replacement but im tired of dealing with them. 34Gb is still enough for what Ive been using it for but I wont be buying this brand again when I need another one. 1Sturdy for sure Yep. I dropped it in a customers driveway by accident. They called me up wondering what it was and I knew right off it was my recovery files I use on a daily basis for PC repair. I rushed over to get it, and they said they had actually plucked it our of the tire treads of the wife's vehicle. She ran over it coming in, and it had lodged in there pretty good. Poor Gorilla, just wedged in there like a monkey stuck in a vise. Long story short (you're welcome) all files were intact and the drive has not missed a beat. Scuff marks and road rash cant stop this beast. Next test is when i leave it in my pocket for the wife to send through the wash-cycle. Gorillas can swim cant they?? 4Tough, Cap stays on, Lasted me for 5 years and still going strong!I bought this thing my third year in college and used it daily putting it on my key chain and walking around with it. This thing is tough. I have now been in industry for 2 years owning this thing for a total of 5 years and never once have I had an issue with it. I have taken it to the shop with me and it has been left out in the rain. It has actually outlasted the key fob right next to it for my car. My only regret is not getting it in a bigger size. I did not know I would be using it this much. My only thing is that keep track of the cap for the USB insert. but it has never come off in my pocket or back pack and I have dropped and thrown my keys. repeatedly. They fell out of my pocket while riding my bike to class and this thing has hardly shown a scratch. Some of the paint where there ring would attach has worn off, but that is normal. The drive will plug in and work like a charm every time. I Highly recommend this from light duty work to extreme duty. to sum it up. Its really tough, the cap stays one, and I would Recommend this to anyone looking for a daily carry drive.5rugged, waterproof, shockproof USB drive with a cap, I'm hoping it's dependableThe seller was MegaRetailStore. I paid 10 bucks.I researched the following rugged USB drives before buying the GorillaDrive:* Lexar JumpDrive Tough (discontinued)* Corsair Survivor (quality issues)* Corsair Survivor Stealth (quality issues)* Corsair 16 GB USB 3.0 Flash Voyager (quality issues)* Transcend JetFlash (cap fits too loose)* Patriot Memory Supersonic Boost XT (cap fits too loose, keychain loop is soft rubber)I'm very pleased with the GorillaDrive. The metal keychain loop is very sturdy. The hard rubber housing is very rugged. The cap slides on the USB connector with resistance and snaps on securely. I am able to remove the cap by tugging on it, which is what I would expect. You don't need a death grip or big biceps to get it off, which is good.I use my drive like an emergency/medical bracelet. It is on a lanyard that I wear around my neck. I use a very tiny part of its storage capacity for my files. The unit doesn't get hot and it transfers files very quickly, but my files are less than 600 KB (most are 1 KB).I was looking for a dependable, rugged, waterproof, shockproof, small USB drive with a cap for some small but important files. Drive capacity was not a concern, so I got the best deal at the time. And it's great that they sell replacement caps, in case you need one: GorillaDrive Replacement Caps (2-Pack)5Want to Love ItI love the size, it is compact. I love the durability, the cap is solid so it does not risk falling off. The mechanism for holding it onto a key chain is solid so there is no change of losing it. All of these reasons are why I purchased this particular thumb drive. I also expected superior data preservation quality given it is a Gorilla Drive. After ONE MONTH, the drive crashed and I lost all of my data. Very disappointing considering I also use a really cheap drive (Dave the Minion purchased as a gag gift) and it has held up to the same uses for 2 years!!1Survived the washer and dryer!I ordered two of these.after washing my previous thumb drive. One has already passed the write limit, so is now read only. I did put it through some heavy use, but would still have liked it to be writeable a while longer. The second one I have been more careful with, however, last night, I washed and dried it. Found it in the dryer when getting my clothes out. This morning, I plugged it in - and used the Ninite installers stored on it to update my programs on my computer like nothing had happened.5
