Customer Reviews

I love my GolfBuddy It's simple to use, stays securely on my visor, and with a click of the button, gives the distance to the center of the green, which is about all I'm interested in knowing. Our course has a few holes fairly close together, so occasionally on a Par 3 it may tell you that it's 240 yards to the green. On my husband's Garmin it's possible to change a hole number, however, the Golf Buddy relies completely on GPS info. You need to remember to turn it on when you first arrive at the golf course, as its "search for satellites" takes awhile. 5Buyer Beware; Golf Buddy did not honor their one year limited warranty Normally my reviews are very good. This is probably the worse review I have ever written on Amazon. I cannot recommend the Golf Buddy Voice 2. The display on my Voice 2 became inoperable after being used approximately 10 times. I purchased the unit from Amazon in June, 2017 and it stopped working in September, 2017. It's so new that I still have the original packaging. I attempted to have the Voice 2 replaced or fixed under the one year limited warranty but the request was denied. The warranty proved to be useless after Golf Buddy, without even asking me to send them the unit, determined that I must have broken the unit. They said that the LCD can only stop working if it is cracked or if significant pressure was placed on the LCD. There is no crack on the LCD nor was significant pressure ever placed on it. Picture attached of virtually new unit (with charger port open in top right). The LCD gradually stopped working until it failed completely. Oddly enough the voice or sound still works fine; I just can't see anything on the display. I had purchased the Voice 2 after owning an original Golf Buddy for more than 3 years. I thought the Voice 2 might be more accurate than the original Golf Buddy which is why I purchased it. My original Golf Buddy still works fine after several years and more than 100 rounds of use. I treated the new Voice 2 the same as the original Golf Buddy (ie. carefully) and the new Voice 2 broke after only 10 rounds and 3 months after purchasing it. Obviously it was a defective unit. Based on my experience, Golf Buddy does not stand by their product and does not honor their warranty. If a company does not stand by their warranty I cannot recommend purchasing from that company. 1It was defective company won t pay return postage It is not accurate. I checked with my husband s range finder 30 yards out so then verified against other players all showed same result as my husband s and the course markers. Tried rebooting. Be aware this company expects you to return defective items at your expense 1Product not working and manufacturer has no customer service! Terrible experience! The product is not working right and the manufacturer has TOTALLY INGNORED my requests for help. So, back it goes and will buy a Garmin instead. 1Great if you only golf 9 holes My first golf buddy was great but went on a golf vacation and left it in our hotel. Purchased this one to replace it and thought I'd get the same quality product.....wrong!!! The battery only lasts about 17 holes, while my old one lasted 40 holes. I've tried the reboot several times and it still only charges half way. I understand that every manufacturer makes a sub par product every now and then, but I've filled out several contact forms over the last month with no response from Golf Buddy. There isn't a phone number on their website. There is no customer support at Golf Buddy. I'll save this for the rare times I go out and golf 9 holes, meanwhile I've downloaded Golf Logix to my iPhone and will be using this app for my golf GPS going forward. 1OK for the money but needs to be changed to add hole adjustment capability Generally works well but sometimes fails to connect which requires a restart of the device. Biggest problem is the failure to control - or switch to - the hole you are actually playing. Several times I found the yardage was showing to an adjacent hole rather than the one I was playing. Without the ability to change the hole on the device you are stuck until the device sets itself back to where you are on the course. The biggest need for yardage is when you are in another fairway and blind to the hole so this is a real detriment. I was in the trees on my home course on #9 which runs parallel to #1. Looking at the device for yardage found that it showed the distance to #1. A manual adjustment should be easy to add or even some logic to the code where it understands that I played holes #1 thru #8 and started on #9 so it would be illogical to need yardage to #1.I don't use the voice control so I cannot comment on that but for the price this is a good option for the casual golfer simply looking for front/middle/back to the green yardage. 3My device was just inaccurate. I am reluctant to write this because I know it can hurt a product but I have to be honest. And maybe I just got unlucky. Initially I thought this device was a good buy ... but I started to notice that distances to known targets were not correct - by a factor of 15% or more. This sort of error can seriously screw up your score card and mess with your head. At first I was prepared to accept that this might be due to anomalies with a specific course and/or satellite errors which might make the device inaccurate. But the distances were mostly shorter than they should be and by going to different courses it showed that this was not explainable by a simple geo positioning issue. You would expect the device would measure at least some holes longer depending on which direction you were from a given target. My friends were using the Neo ghosts etc and their devices were consistent with each other within a yard or each other, my GolfBuddy was showing distances typically 10 or 15 yards shorter on most critical shots. When closer to the hole the error was obviously less dramatic but by then it didn't matter. I thought I was saving money by buying this ... but in the end I had to get the Neo for an extra 50$ - I simply wasted 100$ buying this. I can't even give it away to a friend because it would just mess up their game too. 2No customer support! The Golfbuddy is supposed to connect to your computer with the Golfbuddy software so you can update the courses, and the firmware of the unit. I spent a few hours trying to make this work and was not able to get the software to recognize my device. Amazon was kind enough to send me a replacement but it has the same problem. Golfbuddy does not have a helpline or chat line or email that would allow you to receive any kind of direct assistance. I think their customer support is terrible. I recommend Garmin if you want any customer support. 1my friend has an olderwatch style garmin that he uses and we are sometimes ... was anxious to use this to see how it works and so far it's had it's ups and downs but overall it will give a fairly close distance to green. first time i forgot to turn it on prior to arriving and turned it on going to the first tee. it finally caught up about the 3rd or 4th hole. i was on one course that i had to turn it off and on 4 times till it finally got the right hole i was on. my friend has an older watch style garmin that he uses and we are sometimes 5 to 10 yards apart on our readings and we are sitting beside each other in the cart. it will get you close enough to your distance unless you have pinpoint accuracy when you hit which i do not. it at least helps you decide which club you need to use to get to the green if you know already how far you can hit your clubs. i would rate it higher except for one thing that really bugs me. my computer won't recognize this thing. i do understand that you do not need a computer to use this but i like to make sure my gadgets are up to date and updated which in this case would require a firmware update but i can't do it without the computer recognizing the blasted thing. searched all over the net and tried everything they suggested and always failed to recognize. even emailed the company for any suggestions and that was 3-4 weeks ago. no response. that right there is the main reason for 3 stars. otherwise it would be 4. will still use it but i am not 100% sure if the distance it tells me is the real distance or 5-10 yards longer or shorter. if you don't have the $300 for the premium ones this one will do fine. just hope you don't have a problem that you need the company to get back to you about because you may be waiting for a while if you even hear from them. 3Great device I was torn between getting the GolfBuddy or a binocular to measure the distances. After much research I decided to go with the GolfBuddy. I have used it a few times and it has found all the courses that I play and the distances are comparable to the scope when I play with someone that uses one. I wear it on my belt and I longer have to look to find the 150 marker and estimate my distance. 5
