GREAT laptop speakerI am confused by the Amazon "Rate features" section labeled "noise level." I assume that they mean "sound level" which is very good with this speaker and there is NO unwanted noise. Very nice sound quality and is much, much better than the teeny tiny laptop speakers. Not meant to sound like a Dolby 7.1 system so if you want tons of thumping bass for music you will need to spend much, much more money. This speaker is an excellent value and looks very nice. The clamp holds securely to the screen lid.5Decent sound bar.I like to test the product for a while before I make my judgement and these speakers work as advertised. My laptop isn't top quality but I only use it ever so often so it doesn't need to be. With that said, the speakers are usually muffled being at the bottom of the keyboard. I needed something to bring the sound to face level and these did the job perfectly. If you have a high end computer with premium sound and are expecting BIG sound, these aren't for you. The bass is almost non-existent. Mids and highs make up most of the sound. But that doesn't make it a deal breaker. I use Windows 10 and the sound bar works great. I have no problems with it connecting or the volume control. I raise and lower the volume through my laptop's volume controls with ease. It's actually louder than my original speakers and I can hear a lot clearer. I also noticed that now that I've had it for a while, the speakers have broken in a bit and give off a lil more bass than they did when they were new. STILL, they are NOT Bose speakers! If you want bass, look elsewhere. If you want clarity and peace of mind of decent sound, these are for you. Hope my review helped you decide. :)5Pros & Cons But fair priceI needed a small clip-on speaker for my laptop, and the GOgroove SonaWAVE USB- Clip-On seemed the perfect answer for my needs. I like the design and compact size, and the recessed storable space on the back for the usb cord. Also, the clip-on tab is sturdy, and fits secure on my laptop. I have had clip-on laptop speakers in the past. However the style and size of the GOgroove SonaWAVE USB- Clip-On is by far the best, especially for traveling.My disappointment is that the volume controls did not work well. The volume is either too high, or there is no noticeable change in the audio volume. Also, I frequently have to unplug then re-plub the usb cord into the port for the speaker to work. I assumed the problems I experienced was due to glitches/flaws in the speaker I purchased; which is not an uncommon problem with small electronics. Therefore, I attempted to contact the seller directly to find out if I could exchange my GOgroove SonaWAVE USB- Clip-On for another unit. Unfortunately, I became frustrated because when I clicked on seller information, the page sent me to another retailer/distributor. I was not able to leave seller feedback, or email.I purchased this unit because of positive reviews about the design features of the GOgroove SonaWAVE USB- Clip-On, and the positive comments about the quality of the audio. However, I neglected to read the few low-rate reviews by individuals who experienced similar problems with the audio controls. Nevertheless, despite the continuing annoying problems I had with the audio functioning, I would recommend the GOgroove SonaWAVE USB- Clip-On if you are looking for a compact size laptop speaker moderately priced. Hopefully, your unit will NOT have the audio problems I experienced. This is the reason I rated the item three stars, which I consider generous. After all, no matter how great the quality and style, if the product doesn't work properly, it's not worth the cost. Finally, I would caution potential customers to read all reviews, and DO NOT wait to return your product if you experience problems from the onset. So far I really like this speaker. The sound is much louder than any of the others I've had and it's clear. The included stand is a great bonus, it takes up a small amount of space since it stands the speaker on end and eliminates the need to keep removing the speaker when I want to close my laptop.Update: Nov. 27, 2019 6 months after purchase. For the last few weeks my speaker won't work. Before that it would sometimes and other times not. I thought it was the usb on my macbook pro and was going to take it in for repair. Today I found another set of speakers I had purchased and tried them. They work fine. It's not my computer. This speaker lasted not even 6 months. What a disappointment!1Better Quality Than I ExpectedFor the price I wasn't expecting much, but turns out to be better built and better sound than I'd expected. I am using it with the clip mount on top edge of a 22 inch desktop monitor to replace the awful sound coming from the monitor's built-in speakers. I was a bit dubious about the red color, but it turns out to be darker, more burgandy, than the pictures show. Unlike most compact accessory speakers, this one gets both power & sound from a single USB 2.0 connection; no extra cords necessary for power brick or for 3.5mm audio. The sound is quite sufficient to fill a small office, and quality is fine enough for voice recordings, youtube, etc. Only con is no knob for volumn control; you have to use the computer's sound control via function keys or on screen control.5Leaps off my laptopThe clamp on this unit does not have enough tension to keep it in place. Sometimes it leaps off and falls forward onto my laptop which is quite startling and not good for the speaker or the laptop. I sometimes have to max out the volume for certain shows and even then I wish I could turn it up a bit more. I get feedback pops if I bump the cord or when powering up my laptop. The sound quality is better than the speakers my laptop came with, but is not as good as my old Logitek sound bar. Those are $400 now - what the heck. I bought mine 5 years ago for less than $100. This will have to do for now until I win the lotto and can replace my Logitek.2I wish I would of found this sooner and not spent so much money plus too many speakers. Wow I must of went threw 5 or 6 speakers they all were terrible for me. I even went to Stores for these Sharper Image speakers for computer it was awful for me and those types of speakers that have color in them or looks like colored water worthless totally. I spent probably over 100 dollars just on speaks only. Finally I found one that does not have cracking sounds to it and this just plugs into USB port so I don;t have to plug in my headphone port which I really did not like at all. All I wanted was a a little louder sound then my laptop speaker. It is really light weight and it has a clip which goes on the computer either the side or on top, also a stand if you want to stand it up. It has a short cord for the USB so you have to keep it near your USB port. I like how it came in 3 different colors I got the white one with the gray speakers so that is nice to have some choices. It also came fast delivery too I think it was a day sooner then it was suppose too. So if you looking for a speaker and you had issues with finding one this might be for you to buy it has nice sound too not the loudest but it so much better then what my laptop was putting out and I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop. 5Works as Advertised. Good Value This product works as advertised. It's simple and plugs in easily. Volume is great and sound is great. I clip it to the top of my laptop above the screen. Tried the side first so it would be less out of the way but the sound then all comes from one side and is a bit distracting for me.I got this becasue my fairly new laptop for some reaosn has such low volume with the factory speakers I can't watch a show and tell what's going on, even when it's right in my lap a foot away. I also got this as an alternative to the speakers that each have a cord running to them becasue I found that the cords get too abused as I use my laptop mostly in bed and they also have to be set up in position on either side each time. Was just a hassle.The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is becasue it is inconvenient to take it on and off every time I want to close my laptop. If you have your laptop set up fairly permanently on a desk, you may not encounter this issue but I'm not set up this way. 4Eureka! I can hear my laptop now........Before I go into my review, I would like to address the volume issues in other reviews. If you experience volume level frustrations, in Windows simply click on the speaker icon in the bottom right of your taskbar and click "Mixer" at the bottom of the volume slider. In the Mixer, raise the volume level on the speaker and then adjust the application sources for the sound until you are satisfied. This allows for smaller increments in volume adjustment with the speaker.Now for my review:After looking around, I narrowed my choices to the Logitech USB Laptop Speaker Z305 and the GOgroove SonaWAVE USB Laptop Speaker. They both got good reviews so I chose based the GOGroove's lower price and idea I wanted the sound directed at me. I was not concerned with surround sound on a speaker of this caliber and the whole point was to be able to simply hear my laptop better(quietly hoping music would sound good too). I will say the look of the Logitech is cool and appears slightly more compact, but I was a little leary of the fact the speakers don't face you when you are working on your laptop and not knowing how full the sound would be based on the compact size.With all that being said, I am extremely happy with my purchase of the GOGroove SonaWAVE. I use my laptop for work and frequently attend virtual meetings and presentations where my laptop speakers were not loud enough when the presenter had a soft/quiet voice. The sound is better than I expected from a small portable speaker. The USB cable is awesomely self-contained. You can easily set the speaker on the table beside your laptop if you so choose. I can hear presentations perfectly no matter the style of the presenter. When not on calls, I am now able to enjoy listening to music on this speaker as well. I wish I would have bought this sooner! This speaker is an excellent choice for people who are mobile or who don't have much space.I want to add that I have purchased Logitech computer speakers previously and they pack a decent bang for the buck. I feel the Logitech Z305 would be a good choice as well based on the ratings alone if you don't mind spending a little more money and want the "360 degree sound" experience.5I should be working, but I'm so pleased with this I'm writing a really long review for it.The speakers on my Lenovo went out post warranty period, so I bought this instead of using headphones/ear buds all the time. I purchased this because I don't have much desk space and I didn't want to plug two things in (like power and a jack), and this single USB cable fit the bill. I almost bought another clip-on speaker in the same price range ($10-$30), but that one had multiple wires (one for power, one of the sound card/headphone jack), but that's not what I was looking for. I clipped it on top of my LG 24" monitor, which is slightly thicker than the 1/2" allowable on the sales description, but if you have anything bigger, it won't work. This one is maxed out. I also tried clipping it onto my Lenovo T430 and it was fine. It's light enough that the hinge on the laptop monitor held up fine with no noticeable strain, but for the purposes of this review, it sat on my LG monitor.It detected right away when I plugged in USB cable (it uses only a USB cable for power and sound), and for those of you that have a soundcard/headphone jack on your laptop/PC, this USB cable bypasses the soundcard and processing as the speaker has a self contained processor. I'm only mentioning this because I love adjusting the equalizer on my dolby app to tune what are otherwise pretty small speakers that eek out minimal sound quality (c'mon, we're talking about a $25 package here). With the caveat that there is about as much bass on these speakers as what comes out of an iphone, and the speakers being clipped on top of my monitor at ear level in the middle of a 20' X 30' dining room/kitchen with tile floors and bare walls, here is my review:Volume at full 100% on Pandora, and 100% on my laptop was loud enough to fill the room. I was still able to converse with someone across the room with the speakers 3 feet away from my ears, and it was obvious where the origin of the sounds were localized. Either way, my Lenovo T430 laptop nor my Macbook Pro never came close to the level of this volume. At 100% on Pandora, and 50% on my laptop volume control, I could still easily hear it clear across the room, 30 feet away. I stood 20 feet away, turned on the range hood above my stove, and I could hear it, but barely.Next came the music. I tried using the speaker with Pandora first. I played things like Low Life (Future feat. The Weeknd), which actually sounded gritty and acceptable on the intro, especially with Weeknd's vocals being so synthesized, it didn't matter. Daft Punk's Get Lucky came out enjoyable, and I even forgot I was reviewing the speaker bar. I caught the Lido edit version of Portugal The Man's track, and there was very clear stereo separation in the left and right tracks, as well as obvious layers and layers of sounds in the mix. On Adele's Turning Tables, the piano at the beginning sounded good, and the low range of her voice actually comes out audible, and was acceptable. Celine Dion's Because you Loved me and Leann Rimes How Do I Live actually sounded just as I remember, and since their voices are on the high range, I didn't feel like I missed anything. The drums in the background of LeAnn's song sound like a small thin can, but everything else was fine.At the end of the day, I'm pleased with my purchase. I did not want to add any unnecessary clutter on my desk space, nor wire clutter. If you can live with an externally powered speaker, the sound quality and size of the speaker should be significantly more conducive to a better musical experience in a similar price point, but for me, as a laptop speaker replacement/head phone replacement solution, this was perfect. I would recommend this product if that suits your bill.4Sound Quality Very Good but Clip Easily Breaks Sound quality is very good and it is Plug and Play. No problem installing it under Win 10. The problem is the clip that holds it to your laptop breaks after about two uses. I don't use the clip so no big deal. If you need the clip, then rate this as a 3; otherwise for the price, it is a very good speaker. Note, this is not a high quality speaker for playing full range music. I needed it for YouTube and training videos and the quality is very good for that. Also, the width spreads the sound so more than one person can hear the video being played. 4 Clip-On Is Too Tight, Can Damage Display Screen. Arrived Defective, No Sound. Speaker arrived non-functioning, defective, and without sound entirely. GOgroove USB Laptop Speaker Bar with Clip-On Portable Design (White) - Works with Acer , Apple , ASUS , Dell , HP , Samsung and More Computers Refund request ignored. See comment section of this review for the vendor information for my order. Clip-On Attachment fits too tightly, puts too much pressure on my MacBook Pro, which has a glass-covered screen that cannot be replaced, without replacing the whole display. Causes Damaging Level of ripples across display screen. Cannot recommend this speaker, as the entire display has to be replaced if damaged. CLIP-ON ATTACHMENT FOR LAPTOP IS TOO TIGHT: Even though this Clip-on attachment has a rubber-ish strip, it attaches too tightly, and puts too much pressure on my glass-covered MacBook Pro display screen. Causes damaging level ripples across the display. I have never owned a PC, but my understanding is that, unlike MacBook Pros, most lack a glass covering on the display screen. If that is the case, taking that into consideration, I suspect that this would also fit too tightly for a PC as well. Note to MacBook Pro Owners: MacBook Pro displays are assembled as complete units at the display manufacturer. The glass outer covering is bonded directly to the entire sandwiched unit. You cannot buy just the glass, nor can your remove or replace just the glass. Your only option is to replace the entire display. As of the writing of this review, replacing a MacBook Pro Display is in the neighborhood of five-hundred USD. BOTTOM LINE: I will not be re-ordering this speaker,and cannot recommend it.1Pros: Great sound quality, handy clip, reasonably priced, only one cord. Cons: Bigger than expected & no volume controlPros: Sound quality is great, clip is very handy, it's reasonably priced & I love that there is only one speaker & one cord to deal with. Cons: It's bigger/heavier than I expected (when I'm on my laptop in bed I fear it's going to fall off & bust me in the face) & there is no volume control (& it is LOUD) so I need to turn the internal volume on whatever media I am using to almost nothing. However I still find this purchase to be totally worth it. One of my internal laptop speakers is blown & I don't have the money to repair it right now, so this is an excellent & effective alternative. We will see how it fares on longevity & I will update this review accordingly. Great little speaker so far!5
