Customer Reviews

Nice Looking 4 inch recessed light work great with new 120 degree LED GU10 I bought 20 of these for general lighting throughout my main floor. I used 10 in a 15 x 17 area (plus ceiling fan in the middle) and 9 in a 10 x 13 kitchen and there is plenty of light if you use a GU10 LED 5W 120 degree spread dimmable 3000K lamp. the key is the 120 degree spread so that you don't get shadows or spots. (unless that is what you want). The quality is nice. When you first open them up you may think they are rather cheap but they are very well built and look great installed. The swivel isn't more than 15 degrees each way and is really only for minor adjustment, not a steel sloped ceiling.I had two challenges. The first was these are designed with the fins which hold them in the ceiling to be 90 degrees opposite the wiring box. This means if you are right next to a joist, you need to turn them sideways. I would say you need at least 1-3/4 inches away from a joist not for this to be a problem. In a tight area such as joists that have some plumbing or duct this is not an option. I ended up drilling out the rivet, turning it 75-80 degrees and putting a screw through to hold it. It worked well even though it seemed a little hokie. The second challenge is where I had 4 plus wires going into the box. I ended up buying an 1/2 knockout extension and connecting this box to a standard metal square box via the extension, then ran a set of wires between them. It worked well except that tucking it into the ceiling you have to be careful as you have a very long assembly that almost binds up.With the LEDs that are out, there is no longer a need for the 6 inch recessed lights or the 5 inch.Very good product. Will be buying 10 more for other areas. 5Stellar! I cannot believe this fixture doesn't have more reviews! I put two of these bad boys in the soffit on either side of my garage and they look GREAT! They're all metal (save for the baffle which is plastic) and very sturdy considering the price. I put an Eco Smart ECS 20 50WE WW FL 120 TP bulb in each fixture and they look incredible at night. I wired them off of the receptacle that powers my garage door opener and then wired in an Intermatic K4221C photo cell so I wouldn't have to worry about turning them on and off. The box recommends a 3-7/8" hole but when I couldn't find a hole saw in that size, I tried a 4" hole saw and it worked extremely well. Highly recommend! 5Looks Good! Had some recessed lights installed around my house. I purchased 8 of these. I wish I had bought more because they look great! I used these bulbs in them: LOHAS Par20 LED Bulbs, Dimmable LED 9Watt (60W Equivalent) Lights Bulbs for home, 5000K Daylight White LED Flood Light Bulb, 40 Degree Beam Angle, Medium Base (E26) PAR20 LED Light Bulb (4 PACK). 5Good but very thin sheet metal boxes! Good lights, not great! I ordered these to resolve entry area lighting issues in my home. It was built with a single incandescent entry light. After reviewing the design of these I figured I d give them a look. Bought from warehouse deals, they had some bent flanges but the powdercoating was not chipped or scratched. The flanges were easily straightened with thumb pressure, good as new! That said, they re very light weight! The built in connection boxes are equally thin! I usually use 12/2 romex with a separate splitter box to attach old wiring to new. Here s where my complaint comes. 12/2 is too stiff when using romex clamps on the boxes built in boxes the romex causes these boxes to deform with even moderate force. I switched to 14/2 and had no further problems. These boxes are SMALL, so if you re planning to run these in series understand it s tight to get the in/out and lamp into the box. For a retro fit in wide open air space areas they re fine. The template is one of the box flaps, it s actually slightly large but useable. The whole four light project with the learning curve on wire size took me under 4hrs. The end result is clean and very acceptable! As to how well these hold up over the years ahead? Who knows. I m using 35w led floods and a 4 spacing on an 8 ceiling, I could ve easily gone to 5 spacing. With just a little heavier gauge sheet metal these would earn a 5star. I ll buy more, I have a hallway that needs better light placement. Since I ve started with these and they re not awful I ll use them again for uniform looks. 4Great Lights, Great Price, & IC Rated When Used With LED Bulbs Bought these recessed lights so I could upgrade from my unsightly track lighting. There's quite a bit of confusion on whether these lights are IC-Rated or not. IC meaning Insulated Contact, or the ability to install the lights surrounded by insulation without fear of setting the house on fire. So I went ahead and contacted Globe Electric customer support and they confirmed that this model is indeed IC-rated if used with LED bulbs. There is an additional safety feature of having an integrated cut-off switch, ensuring that the fixture will not overheat and can be used with or without an insulation box.So, yes, these recessed lights are IC rated as long as you install them with an LED bulb. A big plus when installing as a remodel job.The lights themselves are great, easy to install, can swivel in any direction, and the nickel finish gives a stylish appearance. They're exceedingly bright when used in conjunction with a 50w LED bulb equivalent. Installation is pretty easy but make sure to check for studs behind the drywall where you want to cut the hole. Feeding a bent coat hanger through a small hole in the drywall is a great method of determining if there's any obstructions. As other reviewers mentioned these lights are slightly smaller than the standard 4" recessed can so you'll need a slightly smaller hole saw bit. I got the MK Morse AV62 Hole Saw, 3-7/8-Inch Bi-Metal Boxed. Also, I highly recommend getting a drillers dust bowl like this one, Morris Products 13500 Drillers Dust Bowl to catch all the bits of drywall when you cut the holes for the lighting. Otherwise, you'll have drywall dust everywhere.Overall, I like these recessed lights very much. Great lights, great price, & IC rated when used with LED bulbs. 5They work and looked good after initial installation I installed 20 of these in the eves around my house in 2015. They work and looked good after initial installation, but the white covers (the only visible part after installation) have begun to rust and are starting to look shabby. Also, in three of the fixtures, the aluminum strips (springs) that hold the fixture in place have failed due the tension on the strip when engaged, leaving the fixture unsecured to and not flush with the fascia board. I'd like to replace the spring strips, but don't know where to find them. 3good functionality. virtually heat free when using LE 5W ... well made, good functionality. virtually heat free when using LE 5W MR16 GU10 LED light bulbs 5These look great and really transformed the space I'm in the middle of a remodel and I installed 30 of these in my condo with with Bioluz LED bulbs and Lutron Diva Dimmer. These look great and really transformed the space. Installation wasn't too difficult - running the wiring was the most time consuming part. The 30 bulbs only consume 195 watts which is the equivalent of 3-4 normal incandescent bulbs. 10 Pack Bioluz LED GU10 LED Bulbs 50W Halogen Equivalent Dimmable 6.5w 3000K 120v UL Listed (Pack of 10)Lutron DVCL-153P-WH Diva Dimmer for CFL, LED, Halogen, and Incandescent Dimmable Bulbs, White 5These lights are fantastic, they look great and my kids love turning ... These lights are fantastic, they look great and my kids love turning them on. I've removed a few lamps in our living room because we have so much light available now. Two down sides: the connectors that come with the lights are rated for more like 16-18 gauge wire than 14/2 that you should use to wire them with, and they don't come with the bulbs but that's okay I guess. 4so far so good. they are non ic (insulated ceiling) rated so ... so far so good. they are non ic (see review update****) rated so you must leave 3 inches of insulation gap around the box that goes in the ceiling. Even though I am using LEDS that don't let off heat like halogens I would still leave space...install was easy but doing ten of them is work.tips: use the "cut out" circle that is on the box the lights come in. this is the exact size circle you need to cut in the ceiling. before you cut, drill a pilot hole and use a hanger in an L shape to stick around and the ceiling to make sure you aren't too close to a stud.run 12/2 wire from hole to hole leaving a loop out. when you install it you will cut the loop and wire one in from another light and one out to another light.Update they can be used in ic applications if the led bulbs are under a certain number of watts, read instructions and description closely 5
