    Garbage after a year I've owned this in chrome for 1 1/2 years now & it looks like an old piece of junk that I've had for ages. It's all rusty & pitted, & quite frankly this did not happen anytime recent. It's looked hagged for a minute now. I own a vintage home that's over 100 years old, so my windows are not airtight like modern homes & it gets dusty in there easily. I also have a door to the outside, in addition to the window, in the bathroom this pedestal is in. So I don't feel there's any more moisture in that room than average, there maybe less. The pedestal seems to not stand up to any dust and moisture combination. Beyond this, I cannot stand installing a new roll! It is such pain in the rear. I often leave the new one stop for my husband to install. It's not incredibly difficult but definitely requires more effort than necessary for such a simple task. I plan on replacing this pedestal with something else soon. It's hard to tell if something will last more than a year. The chromed plunger sitting behind it is just fine. At the very least, I'm thrilled I did not buy 2 as I normally do for both restrooms. 2I looked at other placed like RH, PB As far as toilet paper holders go: it serves its purpose well. I looked at other placed like RH, PB, etc. before deciding to make a more financially practical decision and order this one. A nice surprise was the metal tissue holder...it's not a cheap plastic tube like you see on many others. I wish it was 2" to 3" taller, but it's tall enough to not feel stubby. The base is weighted nicely. Assembly couldn't be more basic. I only take one star off because the top metal ball arrived with a very small scratch on it. It's not noticeable enough to return it, but it caught my eye after the fact. Ordered in the satin nickel finish and am pretty pleased overall...for the price: it's definitely worth it. (Wish they made a train rack that matched!) 4Best free-standing out there. Pros: Heavily weighted and stable while pulling off paper. Real, spring-loaded roll so paper won't slide sideways or come off while you are pulling it. Chrome is high-quality and coordinates perfectly with my Kohler fixtures.Note: Not as easy to insert the paper roll as the open-ended holders (duuh!), but oh so much easier to use because it functions more like a wall-mounted holder.I shopped everywhere for a free-standing holder and even bought a lighter weight one at Home Goods, but returned it because it was too flimsy. This room gets constant use and I needed a heavy, stable holder. 5In my experience it screwed in quite smoothly and easily. The end result is a VERY STABLE Pedestal ... I had read various reports by other customers before purchasing this item. Here is my rating of the Garco 1436BS Designer II Pedestal Paper Holder. 1) it is exactly as the one pictured. 2) To "assemble" it, merely requires that the upright piece be screwed into the bottom piece, so that it actually does stand. In my experience it screwed in quite smoothly and easily. The end result is a VERY STABLE Pedestal Paper Holder. In my experience it looks beautiful, the finish is perfect, it sits at the right height, and I can think of nothing to improve it. Form & function meld beautifully. 5CAREFUL: Bronze color is WAY lighter in real life. Also, lots of metal shavings fell out of the tubular piece when assembling It's well built and the finish is nice, but the color is WAY lighter than on the website (and box, for that matter). Also, when we went to assemble it, there were lots of metal shavings falling out of the tube part. Definitely heavy/sturdy enough so that's a plus. 3This looks awesome in my bathroom remodel This looks awesome in my bathroom remodel. Very solid construction, heavy feel to it. I owned another one of these that I bought at a local store, but it didnt actually hold the TP in, and it kept falling off.I really enjoy this holder! :) 5Just right for our bathroom remodel! Sturdy! Well-made! Decorative! The tension spring-loaded holder works well and paper rolls effortlessly. There is no feeling that it could tip over. It is weighted well and stands up sturdy and straight, and has not tipped over once. We have had it two months. The finish is nice, shiny and bright, and goes well with our expensive Delta Cassidy Traditionl fixtures and accessories! When we remodeled our 50 year old bathroom and put all new wall tile in, we did not want a built-in toilet paper holder but wanted something free standing and more versatile, as well as decorative. This is doing the job well! 5Rusting does not make this a good buy This perfectly fits my vacation rental bathroom s d cor and need for a stand. It is wiped down and polished after ever guest checkout. But, after 6 months, tiny rust spots began to appear on the base as was the experience of many other reviews. Initially, with a little rubbing they were easily removed. Now, after 15 months after the purchase, the rust is spreading and very noticeable on the base and can no longer be rubbed off. As attractive as this product is, it lasted only a short while. I now have to invest into another purchase. The 1 STAR is based on the poor finish and short life which does not make it a good buy. 1Sturdy and looks good too! Couldn't be happier with this purchase. Needed something for our newly redone bathroom - not too many options out there, but there is a huge difference in quality. I read so many reviews about these holders tipping over, or being hard to replace the toilet paper on. This one has a nice, heavy base, and it doesn't tip or pull over when you pull on the toilet paper roll. Perfect for a potty-training 3 year old! The roll holder isn't difficult to get off -- my 9 year old son has no trouble replacing a roll. Would purchase this again in a heartbeat. 5quality product Heavy and nicely made. Perfect for what I needed it for. 5
