Customer Reviews

If you want quality, pick Fractal Design. I agonized over a week deciding what case I wanted to use - I had not built a PC in over 5 years. I had very specific details that I required and this model checked all the boxes. The versatility of the different configurations built into this model was highly appreciated. Top notch job all around! It's built like a tank and quiet as a mouse. I could not be happier with the choice I made.I was also looking for replacement parts (to change the color of the white PCI slot covers to match the black color of the case). The customer support team informed me that this particular item they did not sell in N America, but pointed me to an almost identical item on Amazon. Since I had already checked their website for the parts, and did not find them, I had anticipated the 'no' answer. But they took the time to find me a replacement, and for that I give their Customer Service Dept 5 stars as well. 5Cutting Corners leads to ANNOYED Customers! First Things First... I m ANNOYED! Should you buy this case? The answer is, Yes, BUT! The sheetmetal, features and such are really good. BUT... the case is large (that, in and of itself is not a problem and may even be a bonus) and THEY FREAK N CUT A BUNCH OF CORNERS when it comes to the fans and fan controller. It s as if the design staff said, whoever buys this is going to toss all of the OE fans so why should we bother spending (literally!) $0.019998 to ensure the provided cables ACTUALLY FIT the intended purpose. I m sitting here with a 90% assembled machine. One where I had to toss the OE case fans in the trash and buy replacements JUST BECAUSE THE DAMN CABLES ARE 2-4 INCHES TOO SHORT! What really chaps my hide is after all that I go to hook up the fan OE controller daughterboard and the damn PWM cable servicing the board is a good 10 to short. Now, I have to go back to Amazon and buy a freak n PWM extension.SHAME ON YOU FRACTAL!I also have a R6 Nano and that case is fantastic. This big brother has me all pissed off at Fractal. If you buy this case ALSO get 3 Noctua case fans (140mm) and a PWM extension. If your build is super complex (mine isn t) you also need some custom PSU cabling (because typical PSU cables will also be to short).Grrrr... 2... with flashy RGB fans that make your rig look like a San Francisco pride parade or a May Day ... A lot of modern case design is concerned with flashy RGB fans that make your rig look like a San Francisco pride parade or a May Day festival. If that's what you're after then this isn't the case for you. But in my humble opinion all of that lighting stuff attracts attention to something that should be mainly a functional item, it raises the cost of your build, while adding nothing at all to performance. This case by contrast is classy, simple, spartan, but the design is exceptionally well thought-out and it's got it where it counts: quiet performance at a reasonable price. The cable management is the best that I've seen in a case in 20 years of PC building, tie downs are right where you need them, ventilation is 100% dust proof, the eight hard-drive trays are rattle-proof with rubber bushings, and building a system in this case gives you the overwhelming sense of high quality and an extreme attention to detail by the designers. With the front door closed, the fans are completely inaudible even at full voltage. I add an extra 140mm fan to the front intake to cool all of my drives and to guarantee that I'm creating positive pressure inside the case. After that, there's plenty of room to add top and side ventilation or a radiator but I've found that it's unnecessary even on a high end gaming rig. After the one rear fan and two in front, additional cooling doesn't drop the temps very much, and my CPU and GPU are well below acceptable limits under full load. All in all, I think this is the best case on the market even in late 2018. It really doesn't get better than this in the categories that I think are important in a case. 5I love this case! I selected this case because I wanted tempered glass and high customization availability. I got everything I wanted, and more. First off, the case is gorgeous. It has a lightly textured outer case, a door that closes over any drives you choose to install (and you can reverse the door opening by removing two screws!), a large power supply area under a mat black grill, and lots of mat black cable management locations with interlaced rubber grommets. Understated chrome feet hold the case a centimeter off the floor/desk, and allow for ventilation grills on the bottom of the case to be very effective.I've been extremely impressed with how easily pieces can be swapped around or removed entirely. Super customizable and rock solid. 5Beautiful and quiet I recently completed a Threadripper 2950x build with this case and have no complaints. Everything fit together beautifully, there is ample of space, no cable mess because all cable runs are in the power supply compartment in the bottom or behind the MB. One slight aggravation was the fact that my water cooler fan unit at the top only fit in one of the two possible positions, closer to the glass front, and then the screw heads were in the way of the snap-in cover. I had to leave some of the washers out. The other thing is that there is only one 5 1/4 slot with front access. If you install a DVD drive, you are done. Given that there is so much space, it would be nice to have the option of installing something else.PS: After more testing, I did find that the front microphone jack is bad. There is a lot of static. The one directly on the board works fine. I checked and reseated the connector, but no improvement. The headphone jack and USB ports work fine. I am deducting 2 stars, because now that the thing is built, I will have to live with this. And yet another annoyance is the DVD drive behind the front door. When I accidentally click on the DVD drive icon in Windows Explorer, the drive opens up and bangs against the closed door. This happened twice in the last hour. 3solid and quiet I was considering this case (Fractal Design Define R6 USB-C Black - TG Tower , with TG stands for Tempered Glass) and NZXT H700 or H500. Here are my notes:R6Pros:- low noise, practically silent even under load. Very happy with this case.- all panels (except for the glass panel) have sound insulation layer installed- three 140mm fans installed- modular with many hard drive installation options, and the face panel can be moved to the back for more open space- clip-on glass panel and back panel (two thumb screws for extra insurance)- 5.25" slot for optical drive behind the front door- fan control unit included (with both 3 pins and 4 pins slots)- USB-C port on front panel- small rubber pads in the power supplies compartment, showing attention to detail in the design- design in Sweden, made in China Cons:- thermal a little worse than NZXT H700 or H500 according on the test results found on the web, although thermal can be greatly improved by removing the top panel, at the expense of slightly increased noiseThis case is of roughly comparable size and weight as NZXT H700, which has a 120mm fan & a 140mm fan installed. Based on my research, H700 has better thermal but worse noise than R6. It has great cable organization although R6 is not bad either. There are also more color choices in H700.At the end of the day, I think silent operation is more important to me. Very happy with the choice. The build is solid, the look is professional, and the noise is practically non-existent! 5Pretty good. I sidegraded (downgraded?) from the larger XL-R2 in order to have more watercooling options in the Define R5. Pretty good case, although I miss the 'solidity' of the XL-R2. Still fairly solidly built, but much more of the Define R5 is plastic, and all of the material is fairly thin and insubstantial by comparison.I'm also not a fan of how 140mm fans installed at the top of the case leave a large (2.5") gap open to the right, sucking in dust and blasting sound out of the case. Big no-no if you like having internal case pressure or you actually care about how loud your system is. I ended up having to use a circular saw to cut the existing panels in order to cover it properly. Those who plan to use the top radiator's full 420mm allowance should also know that (at least in my case), you must screw the radiator to the top of the case and the fans to the underside rather than vice versa. Doesn't fit the other way around, so plan accordingly. As another viewer stated, you probably also want to buy quite a bit of Silverstone Acoustic material if you're after real silence. The supposed 'silence' of this case is mostly a gimmick unless you cover all of the non-essential exhaust holes. Any exhaust that doesn't have a fan on it should be covered.Great case, despite all of those things. You could definitely do worse.BIG caveat that I wish I had been aware of: The Fractal Design S is the same case, but with better watercooling options, no 3.5" / HDD cages, and alternative HDD mounting (3x 3.5" and 2x SSD). If you're going to do a full watercooling loop, save yourself some cash simultaneously and get the much more flexible and appropriate Define S instead. 4Excellent case! Classy design and practical functionality I was looking for a new case for my computer and I wanted something that looked sleek and elegant instead of just being a gamer oriented case. I also wanted something that would silence my computer by a few decibels but have a lot of options for builds and cooling. This case fit my criteria perfectly and after having transfered my build into it I am very satisfied. The ventilation and sound dampening foam that the case use are excellent. I can barely tell my computer is on by the sound of it and my cpu and gpu temps seem about the same as my last gamer style case if not a few degrees cooler. I also really like the fan filters on the front and the bottom of the case. They are both easily removeable from the front and the one on the bottom covers the entire bottom ventilation and like the front filter is also very easy to put back after cleaning. Also the hole size on the filter seems perfect whereas it lets enough airflow through while being small enough to catch debris.I really like that the door is swappable to open from either left or right and the moduvent system that they use for the top and side ventilation is a nice touch. It's nice that since I don't usually mount a side case fan anymore I don't have to have a big fan hole there if I don't want it.The case was easy enough to work in and had excellent cable management options. There was ample room for everything and well placed cable holes and tie downs for everything you'll need. There are a few other good features on this case as far as build options but the few negatives I wanted to point out are the lack of filters on the top and side vents. It you don't mount fans on these spots then you can use the moduvents to cover them but not having filters limits my use of them. Also I'm on the fence on the price I paid(~$150). It's a fantastic case and I'm happy with my purchase but I think the sweet spot for this case might have been lower. Maybe if they had included some magnetic filters for the top and sides as well as 1-2 more of the 140mm fans I would have felt better about but the price but in the end it's a high quality and full featured case that is easy to recommend for most builds. 4Best computer case I've worked with I've had cheap cases, and I've had some fairly pricy ones - this one by far exceeded not only my expectations, but delivers that feel of a truly premium case.No sharp edges, rubber grommets that are soft and easy to work with; lots of room to work with on a well-engineered case. The way the side panels attach, the front door, the extra heaviness of the panels and such due to the acoustic lining to keep things quiet. And it is VERY quiet.I see myself using this case for a number of years, a number of builds going forward...and would not hesitate to go with Fractal Design again. 5just the best case ever. Spacious, well designed and well built. This case is big and heavy. It holds a lot of hardware:) It is a delight to work on; with its well planned layout and cable management, AND it is quiet! Before I decked it out; it was already quieter than my little Zallman case. I lend the acoustic suppression more to the solid build of the case rather than the insulated side panels... I insulated the entire case with doubled up silverstone acoustic foam, cut out all stamped fan grills and sealed/insulated unused openings/vents and set it upon a custom insulated mdf intake box/stand that I built.I run a 1k watt psu, full atx, A10 6800 w/evo 212 cooler w/dual 120mm, 32gb ram, 1x R9 380, 4-5 hdd, 4 ssd, 1 dvdr, USB powered Focusrite audio interface (this is daw machine), 6 fans total...It runs near silent even while gaming/running vsti for an hour plus; after tuning fans etc of course...After eight years of building pc's; I found "the one"I highly recommend this case. It is a big case but, stop fooling yourself... If you're building a custom PC then you want performance, silence and ease of maintenance/upgrades. This is it right here. Buy it. 5
