Customer Reviews

High quality alternative to OE adapter (and better) Excellent product, highly recommend over the canon adapter thats triple the price. This will work for the Canon M3, i'm not sure about the other M-line models, this adapter will allow you to use other Canon EF-S lens which are more affordable than the M-lens. Works great for me, it does add some length so it might take away from the compact factor of the mirrorless camera. I use this Mainly for my property videos and vlogs. Excellent for this plus it has a tripod screw if you are going to use a larger lens 5PLEASE READ THIS. There are 2 models of this adapter... One model's description is "Fotodiox Lens Mount Adapter - Canon EOS (EF / EF-S) D/SLR Lens to Canon EOS M (EF-M Mount) Mirrorless Camera Body" and the other one's description is "Fotodiox Pro Lens Mount Auto Adapter - Canon EOS (EF / EF-S) D/SLR Lens to Canon EOS M (EF-M Mount) Mirrorless Camera Body - with Full Automated Functions".The first one DOES NOT HAVE ANY ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS and the second one does. What makes this worse is that they also share the same reviews, which is utterly confusing. I bought the first one, not realizing that there were 2 different adapters, and immediately noticed that there were no contacts in the adapter that I received. No contacts = no electrical connection for auto focus, image stabilization ect. When I re-read the reviews, I couldn't understand how some people were getting automatic functions when the adapter clearly had no way to do this, then I investigated further and found out that there are 2 totally different adapters.I sent this one back and ordered the other one. We'll see how the other one performs. 1A Simple Item, That Is Well Made I purchased this because I've plenty of EF, and EF-S Canon lenses. Acquiring an M5, it was the perfect way to retain the functionality of those lenses. I received this adapter, and was impressed with how well it was put together. It fit the camera very nicely, and in truth it is not a complex item. Coupled with the fact that it is about 20% of the retail cost of the Canon adapter, it turned out to be a smart buy. The tripod mount is quite handy, and is very sturdy. When it connects to the M5, it is quite snug, and not loose at all. This adapter is a fairly simple item, but it works flawlessly with all of my Canon (and Sigma) lenses, and is stout enough to support my 70-300mm L lens as well. Everything focuses nicely. Finally, I do a lot of international travel, and try to keep my camera kit as compact as possible in my carryon. What is rather odd, is that TSA, and airline security in other countries, seem to have a fascination with the xray image of this particular adapter. I've had my bag opened, and rifled through to look at it on several occasions. I'm not really sure why, because on the monitor, it looks like a "donut". Just a circle of metal, with a blank space in the center (which is what it really is). Not a big problem, but a little annoying. I believe I'll rotate it 90 degrees, the next time I travel. No sense making the TSA's job harder than it has to be. :-) 5Works better than expected. I was expecting only a few of my lenses to work with this adapter after reading the reviews. I was also expecting the adapter to be loose. I put the adapter on my m100 and it was as snug if not tighter than your average lens. I put my Canon ef and ef-s, sigma, yongnuo, samyang, and tokina lenses and they ALL worked as they should. It's been more than a month and it's had heavy use with excellent results. Pleased with the purchase. 5EF lens lives again! I have a few EF lens and only two EF-M lens. Not sure if I should purchase any new EF-M lens which I found not many good EF-M lens. Hesitated to purchase EF to EF-M len mount for almost a year since Canon is charging the mount for a unreasonable price. Finally make the move when I found this Fotodiox mount.Frankly I do not have much expectation for this adapter since it is just fraction of price compare to Canon adapter. However my jaw drops to the ground. How can they make something this great and price it so low? The body of the mount is made of plastic which is solid and match my m and m50; with metal part on both connecting sides. It lock and stay with the body perfectly, firm and tight. Same on the lens side. Autofocus is as good as it get, fast and accurate. I do not see any different using a native EF-M lens or a regular EF lens with adapter. It is just perfect! If you have a m series camera and want to use EF lens no matter you already have a EF lens or planning to purchase one. Get this mount adapter. Period. 5Works Like a Charm When I purchased this item, it had just appeared on Amazon, and there were no customer reviews. But I have been buying Fotodiox products for years, and their quality is consistently excellent. I had been looking at the Canon EOS M Mount Adapter and a couple of other brands, but when I saw the Fotodiox Pro Lens Mount Adapter at less than half the cost of the Canon, it was a no-brainer--go with Fotodiox. With this affordable adapter, my new EOS M camera should become the most versatile tool in my kit! Then before the shipment arrived, two customer reviews were posted here, reporting that the device does not communicate complete information between lens and camera and is unusable with IS and manual focus lenses. My bad. I should have checked the specs. I immediately ordered the Canon adapter, planning to return the Fotodiox. But when the Fotodiox arrived, I thought, wait a minute--I haven't even given it a try. What's it gonna hurt?Well, gosh, the Fotodiox DOES work with my IS lenses--Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM and Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM. I tested both lenses with IS switched on and off (don't have any non-autofocus lenses, but I've tested manual focus on these lenses, and it works). It also works with my Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM.So, autofocus is spot-on, and image stabilization definitely works with this adapter. (Not only is this noticeable in clearer pictures, but I also can hear the stabilizers working.) Aperture and shutter speed info are displayed on the camera's LCD, and if I get an exposure wrong, there are the usual flashing red warnings--which CAN be overridden if I choose. Exactly as if the lens were directly attached to the camera. I don't see how the Canon brand adapter could work any better. There is a lot of chatter in photography forums about how slow EOS M autofocus is, esepcially with EF lenses attached. I was concerned about that because I LOVE my EF 28-135. And it's true; the autofocus is slower than the 22mm pancake--but not as clunky as I was expecting. AF with the Sigma, on the other hand, seems to be about the same as the 22mm pancake. The Fotodiox adapter is made of very well-machined metal, and the finish is excellent. No wobbling, rattling or play anywhere. Lenses seat smoothly in the adapter and click solidly into place. With the adapter + lens assembly attached to my camera, it feels like one seamless piece of equipment. My adapter did not include front/rear caps, but an EF-M cap and a EF or EF-S lens cap should work with it just fine. They're just lying there in the bag, anyway.I give it a five-star endorsement, no questions! 5My old lenses have new life on my EOS M. I have been using this for a few days on an original EOS M camera, and I am very happy with the results. Some reviewers have noted that there adapter was loose, but that has not been my experience at all. There is perhaps the tiniest bit of side to side play, but it had to be less than 1mm. I cannot see how this would be a problem. Of course, I may have to revise this if it get worse over time.I mainly got this to use with some older prime lenses (Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II, Canon EF 28mm f/2.8, Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM) on my EOS M, but I have also tried the classic Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM. All the lenses have operated perfectly with this adapter. The price was about $40 when I bought it versus $200 for the Canon brand.Update: A year and a half later this item is still working just fine, even with the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 is II USM that I got after my initial review. 5Snug fit but system sleep is a little whacky For under forty clams I figured what the hay and pressed the magic Amazonian buy button. Ten days hence it was on my EOS M3 and, indeed, worked well with my EF-s 55-250 STM and 18-135 USM. AF was just as good as native EF-M optics. I tried my old EF 50 1.2L USM and, while it worked fine, the larger optic ran the wee battery in my M3 down very quickly. So this adapter is probably best used with smaller and less power hungry optics.Appearance wise, the Fotodiox Pro looks OEM and blends well with my M3 and most EF-S lenses. Unlike some reviewers here, my sample fit perfectly snug, imparting a seamless feel while shooting. Although the specs claim the Fotodiox is metal, mine feels like plastic and isn't cool to the touch like metal lenses. Of course, maybe it s actually metal but with a thick plastic based enamel? With an adapter, M series cameras can use EF and EF-S lenses with full AF and auto diaphragm compatibility. And AF performance is as good as a native EF-M lens. My only nibble with the adapter is it's incompatible with system sleep when a lens with Image Stabilization (IS) is used: activate AF and IS runs continuously until the battery dies! In other words, system sleep doesn t turn IS off. Oddly, even LCD/EVF sleep is delayed by several minutes. The workaround is to disable IS on the EF/EF-s lens (or turn the camera off) but it's easy to forget to do since I m used to EF-M lenses sleeping within 30 seconds. All in all a well made and functioning adapter considering the low price. If it wasn't for the battery management issue this would be a 5-star deal. 4Fast Autofocus & Great Value I am not a professional photographer, but I do take my gear selections pretty seriously. This adapter surprised me with both the build quality and functionality considering the price.I don't feel like I am missing out on anything not buying the $200 Canon adapter. The product is constructed of a strong polymer (plastic) material. It feels well made and durable, but I wouldn't go dropping it like Casey Neistat.Fitment with my Canon M100 and EF-S lenses have been great, and the autofocus is functioning like I'd hoped it would. So far I haven't experienced any lag with autofocus and the adapter seems to allow communication between the camera and the lenses, seamlessly.Overall, I think that this is a great value considering the steep costs of the competition.I would recommend this product. 5Far better than some other similar adapters This is the second EF/EF-S to EOS M adapter that I've purchased. The first was a similar product but different brand. It was a complete failure. Both adapters cost the same amount, $39 at time of purchase. The Fotodiox arrived the next day. The other brand took nearly 3 weeks to arrive (I think that was a sign). The Fotodiox packaging is nice, it could be given as a gift. The adapter comes with lens and body caps, some competitor adapters do not have caps.No instructions were included, but the assembly of lens to adapter and adapter to body is pretty straight forward. If a person can't figure that out, they likely won't be able to operate the camera. This Fotodiox adapter is 100x better than the other brand I have, NO comparison at all.I shot 50-60 images the first day, not one error using the Fotodiox product. The other brand I could get 8 to 10 photos, then would get an "Err 60" error message - not good.I've tried 3 different lenses with the Fotodiox adapter and all work as they should. The electronic functions work flawlessly with the Fotodiox adapter. Honestly, AF seems faster with the EF lenses than with the native M mount lenses, this may not be reality, but all lenses tested did work very well. The only issue I have encountered is not with the adapter, but with a lens and Canon M50 combination. While using a Sigma 105mm 1:2.8 Macro HSM lens, the lens itself somewhat gets in the way of M50 red lamp AF assist beam. Not a deal breaker as the Sigma lens and Canon still work very well together. This combination really can produce great images. The Fotodiox EF and M mounting flanges are matte finish metal, the casting and machining look good and result in a solid connection of lens to adapter, adapter to body. There is very minimal rotational movement at the lens to adapter, and adapter to body, not enough to cause camera errors, as with the other brand adapter I have. The Fotodiox has approximately 0.5mm of rotational movement = very good. My other adapter has 2.5mm of rotational movement, resulting in continual camera error messages. The body housing looks like metal, but is some sort of plastic, or polymer. It is well made and I don't foresee any issues as the important mating surfaces are metal.Possibly the only negative is the tripod adapter. I have not had an issue, but understand how others claim it is a bit loose, or sloppy when fully tightened. I believe this minor issue can be corrected with the addition of a simple thick paper shim, or very thin metal shim. When the tripod-mount knurled nut is FULLY tightened, there is a little "wiggle".If using large lenses, this minor issue may increase. So, be prepared to either permanently bond the tripod mount to the adapter body, or experiment with a shim to tighten things up.I give it a 5 star overall, even though I only offer 4 stars for Material and Durability. The body housing could have been a metal shell, and the tripod mount issue could be resolved. Neither are deal-breakers. This is a very good adapter.I wish I would have purchased this adapter to begin with. 5
