Replaces old electrostatic filters We moved into a house that had an old Honeywell electrostatic air filter dating from the 1980's. Maybe it worked once, but it certainly didn't work any more. There was a thin filter jammed into the duct work in front of it, but this wasn't very effective.The clever folks at 3M designed this paper filter to fit perfectly into the electrostatic filter chamber. Ours lasts about a year of heating-only. Seldom has a retrofit technology worked so easily and so well. 5Check size before puchasing If the filter you need is 4 inches in depth because that's the only size that will fit into your A/C unit then don't get this size. Read the fine print; it's bigger than 4". I bought them when I didn't need to change my filter right away, and by the time I changed the filter and realized it was too big, it was too late to return them for my money back. Now I'm stuck with these filters and out $40. I guess in reality, it's my fault for not checking the "actual" size vs. the size that is written in the description. 1Measure! The 2 pack (not to be confused with the late rap artist) from Amazon is only slightly more expensive than a single filter from the big box stores.Here is my gift to filter shoppers that will ensure a simple transaction that gets you what you need:1. MEASURE your existing (presumably proper fitting) filter to the closest 1/8th of an inch. Prepare to find it is NOT the exact size printed somewhere on the filter's border. Shocking, no?2. IGNORE all filter measurements in product titles when shopping for your replacement, and focus only on ACTUAL sizes that will always be expressed as fractional inches. Dont buy anything that doesnt exactly match your measurements.Thats it! Simple...no magic. 5Dimensions I ordered a four pack measuring 20 X 25 X 4 unsure of what the actual depth being. States 4 inches deep but in parenthesis says that they are actually 4 3/8 inches deep which is what I need. Reading the reviews only added to the confusion. So check out my pictures. I verified the depth with a tape measure, that being 4 5/16 inches. Also one picture verifies the MERV reading of 11. Not sure why they insist on staying with 20 X 25 X 4 when they could eliminate all of this unnecessary confusion if they simply changed the measurements to 20 X 25 X 5 like the other manufacturers have done. Crazy! Been using the Honeywell equivalent but these are so much better priced. Assigning 5 stars because of previous MERV 11 filters and also because they are a perfect fit. Their description does denote actual dimensions but some of the reviews stated that they were too tight or just right and some saying that they were 4 inches deep. Hope this helps with the confusion. 5Nice filter replacement for FC100A1037 MERV 11 Seems to be a perfect replacement/substitute for Honeywell FC100A1037 MERV 11 20x25x4 filters. 5Careful when ordering Not a review of the filter but the awkward technology on this product's page.New home and new air conditioners that take these large filters. I wanted to order the 20x20x4 filters. Was on the default two pack page when I saw the option for a 4-pack. Wanting to buy more for the future and liking the better price per unit I clicked on the four pack. Little did I know that this automatically changes the size of the filters to 16x25x4. When they arrived and I saw the wrong size filter I felt like an idiot for ordering the wrong size (still thinking it was totally my fault and I must not have paid attention to the size). Only when I went back in to order the right size did I notice the automatic switching of filter sizes. So I'll take the blame but it cost me over $16 to send these back because of the poor technology. Poor coding Amazon! 1Great Alternative to Expensive Honeywell Filters Great alternative to expensive Honeywell filters. This does fit the Honeywell F100 series, original filter part #FC100A1029.FYI - this filter is MERV 11. 5Hard to remove Not sure how long they will last, but some design issues. There are no finger cutouts on the side for pulling the filter out of the cabinet. Had to use pliers to help pull it out. It fits the Carrier very snugly. Secondly, the arrows are not on the short side which is visible after inserting the filter. (I used a marker to draw the arrows and label the date it was installed.) It would be nice if they were shrink wrapped separately so the second one would still be packaged and remain clean for the six to 12 months in storage. 4Worth the money for me I only use 3M Filtrete. I believe in these and will spend the pittance extra for the better performance. I run the system fan 24/7 for the air cleaning/dust removal aspect. I am not saying other brands are bad, just can see the difference at the 3 month change. 5Great Filter, does what it says. Great filter, with Filtrete, we seem to go through less filters per year. We believe this filter has helped reduced our child's asthma as well, as we notice less coughing in our home, and less asthma flair ups. Also, these filters are very easy to install, and fairly accurate to the size they are stated to be. Thanks Filtrete for being reliable and serving your purpose. 5
