    Wonderful filter and better for your health I have used Filtrete filters for many years and usually the highest end of their filters. When I saw this on Amazon i realized that this was an even higher end and better filter than the one we have been buying locally. Our hardware store sells this filter in only one size and it is way more money than what Amazon is charging for this product. Since we have tried this one we are not having to change our filters as often (once a month) and wow how much cleaner our air is. You wouldn't think you would notice but having asthma, i notice. This is a great product for your health. 5The worst filter I have ever used The worst filter I have ever used. It immediately began to cause issues after being installed in our system. It did what a filter was supposed to do, but it should not need to be replaced after 3 days. Filter got clogged and froze our system. After we defrosted the system, we went back to our standard filters and have not had any issues. 1It does what it says but at a cost of your HVAC system I wish I could give it 3.5 stars, since well it does what ti says, it filters the air with a higher efficiency. HOWEVER, there is a cost associate with that efficiency and it comes at the cost of your electric bill and at the health of your blower motor for the HVAC system.Virtually all Residential HVAC systems were not built/balanced to pull through such thick media. Sure they will do it, but they will struggle. The multivriate fans that will increase power in order to accommodate the CFM the system was designed to, the increase in power will increase the energy use of the system and risk blowing out the motor (overheat/overwork). The single stage fans will just reduce the CFM of the system providing inadequate heating and cooling which will result in longer HVAC run time (to heat or cool the space) resulting in higher cost of elect and higher probability of the motor burning out.All the flow rates are measured at lab levels with brand new filter...now one must understand that as soon as the filter encounters real life environment the filter will clog up. The higher the efficiency of filtration the higher the rate the filter will clog up and reduce the air flow (exacerbating the effects above).My advice to anyone looking at this, is either replace it every 2 to 3 weeks to keep the system healthy or get a dedicated whole house HEPA addon to the HVAC system (it's a dedicated blower with filter media) or purchase the HOLMES 5" to 1" conversion filter that provides a 5" filter in a 1" space, this allows for high filtration and high CFM (since now it's 5" thick media as opposed to easily plugged 1" media). 3Used and dirty, not as pictured. This came in dirty and used. It was also in a different packaging than pictured. 1Wow, just wow, and can I say wow? What beautiful air... We live in the original Dustbowl in the panhandle. So this is a very dusty place. Plus spouse has a raging dust mite allergy. Which shows up with eye problems that are miserable despite medication. We bought an IqAire Pro but a set of filters are about $400 and they don't last nearly long enough, the carbon one is always dead in months.So we started buying the Fitrete filters. As the higher numbers come out we have moved up. Last rounds we were buying 2400's from Lowes as Amazon had only 2200's and the difference was massively noticeable with spouse's allergies. Then we found these. No going back. The air quality is better than the IqAire. (we purchased the one just below 'operating room cleaner')Downside to living here, a three month filter lasts three weeks. Even with a back vacuuming with my Dyson D25 every few days it gets pretty furry in three weeks. The thin metal meshy looking cover, can be lethal to your knuckles if you scrape it accidentally installing it. And will they bleed and hurt. They went to that metal a while back and I've cursed it ever since. These are kinda thin to 'one inch' for thickness, you may have to shim a little to get a good fit.My biggest gripe is these are sold in two pack and the filters are sandwiched together THEN covered with the film plastic, not single-wrapped like all the other ones. To preserve the cleanliness of the second one took some careful single edge razor blade work to cut the top and one side at the front of one filter, slip it out, and overlap and box tape the plastic film shut until I need the second one. They need to be single wrapped.The air quality difference still outshines those drawbacks, and I still highly recommend these, over the 1900, 2200, 2400... (we've gone up as the finer mesh have become available). 5This is a AMAZING filter from Filtrete. 20x25x1 PERFECT FOR MY DIY "BETTER BOX FAN FILTER!" This is a AMAZING filter from Filtrete. I currently live with a stubborn pack a day smoker that refuses to go outside to smoke. Unfortunately I currently live in dallas,tx where its unbearably hot outside ten months out of the year, so opening up a window to air out the two bedroom apartment i live in is not a option. The central air always runs which stirs the smoke to every room of the apartment (including mine.) So after researching HEPA air purifiers, a suitable purifier was $500+, which is out of the question currently. I found " Toms Beter Box Fan" website where he had instructions on how to make a DIY Box Fan purifier for the cost of two filters and a box fan. I decided to make one. Some people put a 20x20x1 filter on the back of the fan and call it good, not the best idea. The cheapo motors on a Walmart box fan are not designed to take the strain. So to solve this you simply take two 20x25x1 filters and "hinge" them together onto the intake side of the box fan, cut & tape cardboard from your amazon box onto the top of the filters creating a tight seal. BOOM a DIY Purifier for ~$50! I WAS SO HAPPY when Filtrete came out with these 2800 series filters! The highest quality available in these sizes that are capable of filtering tobacco smoke! Also i loved the 2 pack they come in (perfect for my double filter box fan.) After the 2 pack filters arrived all i needed was some white gorilla duct tape, box fan, knife and 30mins to create my air purifier. These filters work on ULTRAFINE PARTICALS like smoke, smog and 2.5m pollution. After running my better box fan in the smokers room for a just a hour the air cleared and could just see the tar and yellow filth on the filter surface. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS 2800 SERIES FILTERS! Worth the extra money, solid heavy duty construction made to last as well. 5The best residential filters money can buy. My go to air filter for the last several years.This filter will get everything out of the air, making your home feel cooler and fresher.Because of this, the filter gets dirty fast. First one won't last over 1 month and depending on the time of year and where you live subsequent filters will last 1-2 months, but never 3. If you try to keep these filters in 3 months or more you will get sick. 5Filters what you CAN'T see! Images speak a thousands words.I run the furnace fan 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week. Always keeping the air moving and thus, being cleaned.I have a recording studio and I want the air to be as clean and free of flying debris as possible.I have been using these filters for many years and they have not disappointed.Photos show the results of 24 hours/7 days a week for 3 months. This is dirty SoCAL air.I'd also like to add that I was very near the fire zone of the recent fires we just had and although there was soot, ash flying about outside, i could not smell any of that inside. 5The Rolls Royce of furnace filters I'm someone who sleeps in the basement of my house. I bought a 10 pack of generic filters (on a particular "group coupon" site) and eventually started getting sick. Sprung and paid the cash for the Filtrete, and my air quality at the house is now incredible. These filters might be overkill, but I'm only going to buy Filtrete going forward. And to ease my concerns about the filters being "counterfeit" (according to some Amazon reviews), I called 3M and they assured me that I had purchased a genuine product. 5DEFECTIVE FILTERS- DO NOT BUY DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THESE FILTERS! I made my purchase through Amazon as previous buyers suggested with the hope of receiving a legitimate product. Instead, I ended up paying a premium for absolute garbage. One set of filters has the "pleats" running vertically, the other horizontally. (See enclosed pictures). I am by no means an HVAC specialist. However, it is my understanding that the direction of the filter material impacts the effectiveness of the filter as well as the performance of your heating and cooling system as a whole. That is why they always print arrows on the filter and provide detailed instructions that illustrate this on the packaging! These appear to be either knock-off, cheaper 3M filters that someone repackaged to look like genuine 2800s, or someone is selling defective factory rejects. 1
