    A godsend for my wrist pain I'm an illustrator & spend most of my time at the computer. While I draw with a stylus, I regularly use a mouse to navigate between my monitors, pull reference images, etc. I had used a traditional mouse for decades & had no clue it could be contributing to the sharp pains I'd been having in my drawing wrist. I eventually realized that I was having flare-ups especially on days where I was using the mouse more than the stylus.I tried out this vertical mouse & after 3 - 4 days of use I noticed my pain has diminished - I've also been doing exercises & using a brace at night, so I can't give this mouse full credit, but using does not exacerbate my pain as my previous mouse had. I got used to the orientation & new buttons in under an hour, so the transition was fast & smooth. I will never go back to the flat mice! 5A Critical Improvement for Me If you have functional problems with your hands or fingers, this may be the mouse for you. I have both. I have had this mouse several days now, and it's been such a help. "Clicking" is a particular problem for me, and this mouse has reduced the need to click by about 75%. I set the mouse to click for me if I hover over a click spot. Also I was able to adjust how long the mouse needed to hover before the auto click function engaged, which I really need, as I have to have more time to get the cursor or arrow were I really want it to be. There are a lot of different things you can set the mouse to do for you, but I am not great with computers so there was some more complicated settings I don't feel comfortable doing. But the auto click, and the ability to move the cursor when typing by just hovering, is huge for me. I also set the "scroll" on the wheel to a faster pace so I have to move the wheel less. Also you can easily use different fingers when you do have to click, like your middle or ring finger, very helpful to me.If you understand programming better, I think there's a lot more you can do. This mouse is going to help me keep working, as my job requires a lot of computer work. I will be getting one for home as well. Size wise, I got the regular, I am not a large person, and the size fit fine. Thank-you to Evoluent for thinking about those of us with disabilities. 5SALVATION for anyone with wrist pain. I have used this mouse since it was first offered for sale I believe 5 or 6 years ago. Every day - sometimes 10 hours a day. I keep TWO mice plugged into my main computer - one standard flat, and this vertical. I alternate them every 1 to 2 hours. They are both "hot" all the time. I just switch them with any discomfort. Any fixed position of the wrist becomes painful after time. There is no one "best" mouse for the wrist -- they perform differently on consecutive days. I did have a wire fracture at the junction of mouse and wire. I solved that problem with a new mouse using about 1 inch of clear silicone sealer from the mouse body -- out about 1 to 2 inches. The silicone surrounds the wire and attaches to the body of the mouse. No effect on mouse movement on the desk. I elongate the "sealed" wire segment about every 6 months. The sealer allows some movement -- but prevents the sudden bending that will destroy wire function. I have several desktop computers on the same desk, and also use wireless mice. This is my favorite -- if I had to use only one. NOTE -- there are endless choices for programming all the buttons. It's fun to change them from time to time.AY 5Good for wrist position, bad experiences with switch quality Works nicely for months to a year, then the buttons have issuesWe've had three of these mice and they have helped us to minimize carpal tunnel + similar tendon pain issues when using our home computers. I do amateur design and digital art on the PC and this mouse - while bulky - has made it easier to keep my hand in a less damaging pose than similar, competing models which are typically smaller or less comfortable.However, the downside is that button switches on these mice have always failed for us within the same year of initial use. The most significant problem is when a single click for any button starts to instead create unwanted double clicks - this gets to be maddening after awhile and a new mouse is required, because this is truly a hardware issue.We have also noticed that the click sounds in any button may become more pronounced while the click force required sometimes feels greater, as if a greater force threshold must be reached to click than before.By contrast, I still have years-old mice from various manufacturers (i.e, Logitech, Microsoft, Targus, etc.) which have never developed double or sticky click problems.So, while we appreciate the overall design for health reasons, the switch quality on these mice seems subpar. I'd easily pay more money for better quality, if it existed. 3Good for wrist, terrible finish/coating. This really helps with carpal tunnel and wrist pain.The finish is terrible. It gets soft just from your hand oils and starts rubbing off after a year or so. I saw another review that said that alcohol would dissolve the finish, so after it started coming off, I used some alcohol on purpose to remove all the loose finish. The slick plastic that is under it actually feels nicer to me than the original finish. I don't know why they felt the need to use such a terrible coating. It's not like there aren't finishes out there that can be in contact with hand oils and not dissolve.2018 Update: It's still running fine many years later, just "naked" plastic now instead of a matte finish. So it's long lasting, other than the surface finish. 4Good while it lasts It was fine for a year and a half but then the top (equivalent to left) button started periodically doing double-clicks, which is what the middle button was programmed to do. Evoluent's warranty policy is that you can send it in (you pay for shipping) and if they find it's defective, they'll send you a replacement; if not, you have to pay shipping to get it back. I took the chance and sent it to them, and they did send me a replacement.But a little over a half year later, the second one started doing the same double-click thing. When I contacted Evoluent this time, they said that the warranty only applied to the original purchase date, and that was more than two years past, so they wouldn't honor it. The periodic double-click when I'm trying to single click makes the mouse too annoying to use.It was good while it lasted, and it's hard to find a mouse for Macs anymore that allows you to program a double-click. None of the Logitecs support that anymore. But for the price of this one, I would hope to get a little more mileage out of it. 2Not horrible, not great...2.5 stars rounded up... Just a quick video review of the Evoluent Mouse. I discuss some pluses, some minuses and my overall impression of how it works for me.A point I don't clarify in the video is when my hand feels good (nerve problems aren't flaring), I still prefer to use a normal mouse over this. It's just easier to work with. I'm also ambidextrous a bit, so with a normal mouse, I can use either hand if need be. This mouse is only good for my slightly-dominant, right hand.Finally $89 (or something near there) is a LOT to pay for a mouse that doesn't entirely fit the bill. It would be a real coin flip whether I would buy it again (for that much money anyway) now that I've worked with it a bit, and I'm not so blown away by it. 3Returning. The most useless, frustrating mouse I've ever used. My wireless mouse started dying so I got online to find a replacement. I saw this one with the great reviews. I really liked that it was vertical. That made total sense after watching the videos. So I ordered it. Bad decision. It's been nothing but a frustration this whole week that I've used it.First, there's no weight to this mouse so it just moves all over the place. You can't get a grip on it to because of the conical shape. You can click the buttons multiple times and nothing happens -- that's the most frustrating part.As stated in the headline, this is the most useless, frustrating mouse I've ever tried to use. And I've used just about every type and size of mouse and trackball out there in the last thirty years.It's going back in the box and being returned as soon as the one I've ordered to replace it comes. I'll report on the differences and satisfaction or dissatisfaction with the next one as soon as I try it out. 1Great product I once had a worsening repetitive stress issue with my right hand thumb. I first trained myself to use the mouse with my left hand. Bought a mouse that was symmetrical and swapped it back and forth between hands to give my right hand a rest. The pain was less, but not gone. Then I tried the Evoluent mouse and any remaining pain went away over several weeks. I still use the regular logitech wireless mouse with the left hand, especially when I'm doing something repetitive with the keyboard. There is a form I need to fill out at work that goes twice as fast if I combine the left hand on the mouse, and the keyboard with my right hand. I find the USB wired Evoluent version perfect since I only use that mouse on my desktop at home. For traveling, I just pack the logitech wireless mouse with my laptop. Fits my case better and short bouts of mousing don't bother my right hand any more. 5Good but expensive A good product, if expensive. It's a specialty product that's probably not produced in huge numbers like your typical $20 Logitech mouse, so it's got a higher price. The silver on the thumb rest feels like the plastic you find on cheap Chinese toys. Doesn't feel like it should cost $80 - $90 new, but that's the way of things. The Kinesis Advantage keyboard feels like a hollow bathtub toy and it's $250 - $300, but it's a similar niche product. The buttons and thumb rest attract skin grease like a magnet, so you'll probably want to scrub every once in a while.The software that comes with this is junk if you want to click and use the keyboard at the same time, at least under Windows 10. When I held down a key on the keyboard and tried to click on something, the click didn't go through. I first noticed it while trying to play a game, but it happens in productivity software too. I uninstalled the Evoluent software and switched to "X-Mouse Button Control" from highrez.co.uk to re-assign my buttons and never had that problem again.A useful tip to turn off that obnoxious light on the back: make sure the computer is on, unplug the mouse, hold down the pointer speed "-" button on the side of the mouse and plug it in. No more light. It still shows the little green lights on the top to indicate the speed/sensitivity.As a mouse it is good. Optical mouse, adjustable sensitivity, upright stance, puts the mouse cursor where you want it. It has outlasted the Anker wireless vertical mouse I bought around the same time whose scroll wheel has started becoming unresponsive. A bit expensive, but I'm hoping this and my trusty Microsoft 4000 keyboards will fend off carpal tunnel / RSI a bit. 4
