*EDIT* Working well after a little break in period My initial impression WAS that this thing is horrible. The mouse pointer on screen WAS very jittery and sometimes hangs. I tried an old red Logitech ball with the same results. I am going to try the ball out of a newer Logitech and may try ordering one of the blue balls people are talking about. But being the OEM ball and the red Logitech ball are showing the exact same results my hopes WERE not high. Aside from the jittering and stopping mouse pointer the mouse itself feels small. And I do not have big hands. The size I think I could get used to if I can just get smooth pointer action. Also noteworthy that the red Logitech ball spins more freely for some reason than the original ball. And I did pop out the original ball and wipe it with rubbing alcohol to make sure it was clean. And haven't tried using it with any Elecom software (if that even exists) or X-mouse (X-mouse doesnt recognize the 6th button) yet but so far Guild Wars 2 does not recognize the pinkie operated button while the mouse is running the default windows 7 driver.*EDIT*Not sure of the cause but pointer movement is smooth with no hangs after a day of use with the original ball. It could have been the bearings being a little sticky or someting. I cleaned the ball itself almost immediately and tried a Logitech ball witht the same results as I said so I don't believe the ball was the issue. The only thing I can think of is the bearings the ball rides on although appearing clean may have been a little crusty or perhaps just needed a little breaking in. But function is perfect now. And I have gotten adjusted to the slightly smaller feel of the mouse. Very happy with it at this point. Hope it lastes a good while. Just downloaded the Elecom mouse utility to get use of that 6th button and will be testing it's use in some games over the next few days. No matter what you do Win 7 will only recognize 5 mouse buttons without some kind of mouse utility running. And even with the utility button 6 can only be mapped to a keyboard key rather that technically being a "mouse button". But the mouse is working great now and the closest thing I have found to a thumb trackball "gaming mouse". 4Died in just 10 months :( I loved this mouse... when it was working. Then one day without warning the mouse just quit. I plugged it into another computer hoping that it was something with my laptop but alas... the mouse just died. Very sad. I'm going to try the Logitech M570. I just love trackballs and I really don't understand why so many others prefer the 'hand' moving mouse. Non Trackballs just take so much more effort to use and they require a surface. When on my couch I typically place the mouse on my leg or if my computer is plugged into the TV I don't have a surface to use other than the coffee table and that's just uncomfortable. Anyway... I digress. The point is I have no clue what to do with this hunk of plastic... if I had any knowledge of how to fix it I would do just that. I have had this mouse for 9.5 months... it didn't even last a full year. I'm not a gamer, I just like a mouse with lots of options which is why I purchased this one. I set the the middle mouse to 'double click' and the right button as my right click. I used to have Logitech's wired three button trackball and I just want to get back to that. It was the best. All of these trackballs keep coming out with only two buttons - I wish there was a mouse with four buttons but I've never seen that - yet. Either way - this purchase has left me sad and empty inside for it was almost the perfect mouse. I almost thought about buying another one but I'll try Logitech's two button mouse that apparently is the best trackball according to my fellow trackballs lovers out there. We are the minority... but I wonder if it's due to the fact that there just aren't many 'Good' options with trackballs like there are with the hated surface mice. I hate having to move my hand all over the place when all that's really needed is a simply movement of my thumb. 2Left-handed M570 + extras Finally I've found what's essentially a left-handed Logitech M570. In fact, as long as the product holds up over extensive use, it's even better than then M570. It's got horizontal scroll buttons that can be remapped via the software, it's got a low/high DPI switch, a slow/fast mouse movement switch, and even an extra button on the far-left that activated with your ring finger. The ergonomics are a little off compared to the M570, but I'm sure I'll get used to them. The ball movement isn't as fluid as the M570's, but I'm sure that will improve as I wear it in. Also, contrary to the other review, the Mouse Assistant software is in English. And it's got most of the options you'd want.EDIT: After using it for a few days, the ball was getting sort of stuck in certain places. I know from using my M570 that the ball will slow down as the bearings get dirtier, but in this case it was something else. A layer of crud actually formed right where the top of the ball meets the plastic shell, so I had to scrape that off and the ball was moving fluidly again. 5Need to improve:3 star for product. 1 for Elecom for not ignoring left handed users Very limited options when it comes to left handed mouse or trackball especially wireless ones. This Elecom Trackball is a very decent product.Pros:Plenty of options to to customized buttons. Not too big or small. Think it is a good size. Does not take too much force to click.Cons: Scroll wheel takes a lot of force to turn/spin compared to a logitech or corsair or razer scroll wheel based on my experiences with them.. No fast scrolling /hyper scrolling like a Logitech mouse. Current Logitech trackballs don't have hyper scroll either. Wish Elecom fix the issue on the next iteration. Included trackball is not that smooth in movement. Switched out for a Periixx trackball and it moves better. Still not as smooth as M570.Netural:Included manual is in Japanese. Don't think they are aiming for American market. Hard to find companion software on Elecom website. When I found the link it did not work. Wish they cared for American market.Bottom line: No other option for left handed wireless thumb trackball I know about. This is it and it need to get better.3 stars for the product. One for Elecom for not ignoring the left handed users. 4Very nice left handed mouse Fantastic trackball/mouse for a leftie. I have been using the the Logitech track man mouse, but it isn't wireless. This mouse is fantastic. It feels like a high quality part, and functions flawlessly. The software is fairly easy to find online, you'll need to get it there because it doesn't ship with the mouse. The instructions are all in Japanese, but they're unnecessary as the driver and software are available in English and are all you need. It's very easy to change what any button does via the software which, though looking a little dubious on installation, works nicely and is intuitive. The mouse itself was very quick to learn to use, and the ball is smooth and accurate. The scroll function works well, the roller is perhaps a little stiff, but I expect it will break in nicely. I can't comment on battery life, as it hasn't exhausted the first one yet. All in all, it looks, feels, and works like a fairly expensive mouse should. I will buy another for my office. 5Love buttons but had to swap ball I got this to replace the Logitech trackball where the buttons started functioning erratically. I love all the buttons but the trackball movement was driving me nuts. The movement stuttered. I could even hear the ball rubbing against something on inside. I had a newer M570 Logitech sent me to replace an older wired trackball but the M570 would go into power saving mode/unresponsive after a few seconds or so of no movement which became annoying and useless for games. I replaced the EX-G ball with M570's ball and that was it. I couldn't believe it! No more jitter/stutter and what a relief. I'm guessing the ball was flawed. I hope Someone at Elecom sees this and improves on their balls. 4Very Good replacement for corded and cordless Logitech thumb trackball and middle scroll wheel work with CAD software. Work right out of the box as a windows and CAD pointing device. I haven't experience and lag or jerkiness with all default settings yet. My small palm rests and feels very comfortable on the mouse. I only use and need 3 most common buttons (Left, Right and Middle wheel) and don't use other extra buttons. I was skeptical at first based on negative review; however, it turns out that it is a very good replacement for all my corded and cordless Logitech thumb trackball device because the middle mouse button works well with CAD software such as Creo and PDF pro for zooming, panning and rotating the 3D model.Even the foot print seems to be a bit smaller than Logitech trackball, it's still bulky for traveling. I wish that it can be as small as the Kensington Bluetooth SlimBlade Trackball Mouse Wireless K72281US with Bluetooth connection instead of RF as it can save me an USB port on my Dell XPS 18. Otherwise, I would give it 5 stars. Only time will tell if it is as reliable as Logitech products. In my case it should be as I don't use it every day but only when I travel. 4Terrible product until you file down the "sticking spot", Then GREAT!!! There is basically only one left-handed wireless roller ball mouse on the market, the ELECOM M-XT4DRBK, and that's it! Nobody else seems to care about lefties. I am ambidextrous. I have two workstations: one with the Logitech right hand roller ball wireless mouse and I love it. Due to the way my two desks are set up, I use to use a wireless regular mouse with the left hand on my Leftie desk and the Logitech roller ball on my Rightie desk. Fatigue with a regular mouse on the Leftie made me look for a wireless lefty trackball mouse. One choice only......the Elecom. Everyone said the same thing-the ball sticks, jerks and the thing is basically unusable. You can clean the ball, swap balls with the Logitech or buy a replacement Logitech ball for $20 as some other reviewers suggested?? No way! Gotta be a better answer. Every time I used it, the mouse seems to glide well for a few strokes, then stick. Pulling out the ball revealed tiny bits of residue from the acrylic ball glazing on the support rollers inside. A careful examination of the ball and housing it sits in showed the upper circle arc gap was narrower on top than on the bottom, so the upper housing arc of plastic was rubbing on the ball, causing it to wear off the acrylic finish. The residue or worn off acrylic ended up on the 3 little rollers inside the cavity, but that wasn't enough to make the ball sticky and jerk. I sent the first one back thinking it was a problem with a deformed ball or housing and the replacement would be better. NOPE!!! .... same exact thing. Now I started thinking the receptacle opening for the ball needed closer examination because the tiny space between the housing and the ball was not uniform top to bottom. Filing off a tiny bit of plastic on the upper part of ball receptacle edge improved it some, but it was still sticking at odd times. After 3 more sessions of filing, testing, filing some more, I finally got the thing to work as smoothly as the Logitech. Then I swapped the balls back to their original owners to see if the ball was really the culprit. Nope, the balls work in both units. Seems to me a mouse that costs over $40 should not have to be FIXED by the purchaser to get it to work properly, but that's what it takes. I posted a picture with the yellow arrows pointing to the area to file down slowly and carefully so it works smoothly. Don't file away too much or the ball might fall out. Now you have a great left-handed wireless roller ball mouse! 3This is what others are calling a left-handed M570 This is what others are calling a left-handed M570. Installed on Windows 10, no drivers other than the ones Win10 decided to grab from its repository. Works great this way. A bit sensitive for my tastes, but turning that down made it managable.I apparently bought mine from a US seller, as the shipping was fast. I see now that the delivery date is somewhere in July.I can't think of any issues I have had with it, it acts like any other trackball I have owned. If you spin it too fast, it loses its place and stops the cursor from travelling across the screen.Pros: A $%^&ing left handed trackball! It could be made out of mud and I would be happy!Cons: Wireless, I would rather it be wired. It isn't going anywhere, and I can deal with a single wire. But I can't fault the company for this. If you had to make one, a wireless one would sell more product.Update Aug 25th 2016: Still going strong (on first battery) It has disconnected a couple times but came right back. I can't fault the device though, the laptop it is plugged into isn't always the most stable.I installed the ELECOM drivers today, they seem to be fine, nothing different about them other than I now have control over more of the buttons. 5Would be great if it were a bit bigger. I've been using this type of trackball for more than 15 years, starting with the original mechanical TrackMan, TrackMan Marble, and the TrackMan Wheel. I have a couple of M570s that I use with laptops, but they are not the best for a stationary workstation and they are not as smooth as the old TrackMan even after years of use. I get RSI in my wrist when using a mouse for more than an hour or two. These have always worked great.I had high hopes for this trackball, but I went back to my TrackMan Wheel after a day or two. The main issue for me is that it is just too small for my hand. If it was about 10% larger it would fill my hand more like the TrackMan Wheel does. The button spacing is also a bit tight. That said, the overall hand posture is right for me and the track ball is nice and smooth. I also really like the feel of the scroll wheel: it is much better than any of the Logitech scroll wheels. I use it mainly with Linux and don't bother mapping any of the extra functions. My KVM also does not like it at all, but that it also the case with other fancy gaming mice.All that said, I am using it now after my TrackMan Wheel started acting up. After a week or two, I was able to get used to the small size. This would be a great track ball if it were a bit bigger. In the picture, the front of each are lined up to show the difference in size. 3
