Picks up the ball that Jony Ive and the Apple design team dropped on the Apple TV remote. For a company that prides itself on minimalist design and intuitive functionality, Apple really blew it on the Apple TV remote! There is like no way the people that designed this actually watch TV in a real living room. Jony Ive and his team must have been out shopping for more $200 V-Neck T Shirts and just mailed the remote design in.I ordered 5 similar designed covers and this Elago R1 was the best of the bunch in terms of fit and feel. It address most of what should have been done by Apple's design team:1) First off the much discussed 'directionality' issue. The Apple remote is classic 'rule of thirds' design that goes surface-buttons-surface. Which surface is the touch pad? Who knows? This cover covers up the bottom surface meaning you can instantly tell where the trackpad is either visually or by feel.2) With this cover you can actually pick the darn thing up from a flat table. The original (small metal silver) Apple TV remote had a beautiful convex back that meant it was easy to pick up from a flat coffee table. Not so with the new black remote that sits flat and sides are hard to grasp smooth metal. This cover has a front and rear platform "bumpers" meaning there is open space on the bottom. In addition, the material is much easier get a hold of. Which, brings me to........3) Remote is much easier to grasp and use. Again, the first Apple TV remote was a combination of curves, yet also had some 'sharp' edges and it was much easier to hold in your hand to use. This new black one is smooth, and has no edges that provide any sort of grip or control. We would also keep accidentally touching the track pad while trying to grip it. With the soft silicone it is MUCH easier to hold in your hand and use and helps prevent accidental track pad touches.4) You can actually FIND the thing now! I can imagine Jony Ive's living room being a mix of beautiful modern light greys and whites and if this little slab of black should be dropped, it would stand out like sore thumb. For the rest of us, with darker wood tables, couches, etc. Finding this little black candy bar can be darn near impossible especially in low light. Again, the original Apple TV remote being silver was easier. The cover makes the remote harder to slide between cushions as well as being easier to find should it do so.Now - if somebody would find a way to make all the actual hard buttons easier to tell by feel in the dark, we would actually have a decent remote.................. 5Almost perfect, but one small (but important) flaw denies this case a full 5 starsI bought this as a possible solution to the fact that the AppleTV 4k remote is way too thin to be used comfortably, not to mention it's slippery and easy to drop! Sometimes things shouldn't be made as small or thin as possible, but thanks to the elago case it adds much needed thickness to the Apple remote. The textured rubber surface gives me a solid grip; fitment is perfect and the material thickness is just right. I would have given it 5 stars if it weren't for the fact that the raised edges on the sides of the touchpad make it nearly impossible for me to press the edge of the touchpad for FF/REW purposes. Instead of getting the usual skip forward response, I inevitably end up pausing video a lot because the touchpad is registering a center click instead of an edge click. If the side walls were just slightly lower than the rest of the case (very minimal, say -2mm) then it would have been perfect. Aside from that one flaw, the case is worth it.4Affects basic functioning of the apple tv remoteI purchased this as I needed something to protect my apple tv 4k remote from falls . The case has a good ergonomic design and makes it very easy to hold the remote. The lanyard ensures double protection. However, after I i put the remote into the case, it started to malfunction, in that it randomly noted clicks and did not move the icons on the apple tv properly as before (even though it was fully charged). Moreover, the remote has a touch screen which needs to be pressed at the edges to fast forward videos; this case seriously affects this functionality.1Yes, it is worth it, stop laughing.I got this because I always feel a little clumsy dealing with the new Apple remote. Sometimes I push the wrong end. Also, it's so smooth it's slippery. I have dropped it more times than I like. My family laughed at me when I put this on the remote and thought it was unnecessary. Well, who's laughing now? Me. My spouse sheepishly admitted it does make the remote easier to hold and use. And it may not be applicable to every household, but we have a metal box on a tabletop and a metal cocktail table in the family room and the magnets in this case allow the remote to stick to them. Kind of fun, and it doesn't get lost as easily. And now it's almost impossible for the remote to slip into the cracks of upholstered furniture. I did take the lariat off, that was too much even for me.5Remote saver I m positive this case has saved a couple of my Apple remotes over the passed year. I have concrete floors with vinyl faux wood flooring and the remotes have been dropped a few times and no damage whatsoever. I also like the built in magnets; we try to put the remote on the back of the TV when we re done, but if you had a closer metal surface to your sitting area that may be more useful to you. Also feels good in the hand. 5Works FineThis remote case works fine, but it isn't optimum for me.The case makes it more difficult to click the extreme right or left edges to jump forward or backward 10 seconds in the streaming video. It's already difficult enough to try to fast forward/backward accurately. The magnet feature has no benefit for me. I don't have any convenient metal surface upon which to store it. And the magnets need big bulges in the bottom of the case, and that makes it less comfortable to hold. The lanyard has no practical benefit for me, so I removed it. If you need a lanyard, it's a good one.The other thing I wanted a case for, is to make it instantly visually obvious which end is which. I picked the matte black case, and that was a mistake. You still can't easily see which end to hold, especially in low light.I think I'll try a different case, without magnets, and probably in red.4Great cover! Like the magnet too!I ve had the case for about a week now, so durability time will tell, but I like the look and feel of the case. It appears to safeguard the remote well. I really like the magnet on the back that allows me to keep the remote on the backside of the tv for storage...with the added benefit of keeping it out of the reach of the children. The magnet is strong enough to hold the remote without having an effect on the electronic devices (tv in this case). Unless something goes terribly wrong in the future, I would recommend this case to those who want to protect their remote while keeping as low a profile as you can. Great product!5BEST Apple TV Remote Case!I love most of Apple's products and I think I own at least one of every product they have. I bought the Apple TV in early 2018 and I love it, however, I hate the remote it comes with to the point where I've wanted to smash it against the wall because its either too sensitive or it slips out of my hand because I'm trying to not touch certain parts so it won't activate something I don't want it to do, or it falls behind the couch or in between the cushions. I had tried to buy other very expensive remotes to replace it but they were crap as well. I was seriously thinking about getting rid of the Apple TV and going back to Amazon TV. Apple, if you're looking at this...you need to thank this company! This wonderful, little case, saved me and I'm sure many others from getting rid of Apple TV. I really do love it but my lord, do I hate the freaking remote you designed!5Not ready for sale as they are being sold right now!I purchased three of these Intelli Cases. I bought two for my use, the black and the nightglow Blue, and the red case for my friend. All three cases add a level of security to the tiny Apple TV remote. I can find the remotes easier since they add heft and tectile touch. They also have the long wrist band built in.I like the Intelli holders or I would not have purchased three of them. But, there are some issues the manufacturer should address. Since I view these issues as major flaws I have to reduce my rating to two stars1) the magnets are so far from each other that neither one is strong enough to stick to anything. Had they placed one larger magnet in the middle of the case it could easily be a attached to my lamp, headboard or any other metal object.2) the glow in the dark feature does not work at all. I cannot see the Nightglow cover in the dark at all!3) the black case needs some other colors on it, like decals, shapes, lighting bolts. The black case, like the Apple remote it s holding, is invisible in the dark. I lose it all the time!4. the textile handle has already broken off of two of the units. This seems hard to believe that the material handle would fail in a short three week lifespan.Other than the above issues, these can be fixed with minimal effort and money by the manufacturer,I actually like the cases. However, I won t be purchasing any more of them until these issues are addressed.2The case has magnets which aren't useful to me as there's nothing magnetic nearbyAs a case, it works well. It solves one of the main problems I have with the Apple TV remote (which I didn't really use until recently) which is that it's fragile, dark colored, and hard to orient. I have a black couch so if I'm trying to find it at night with the lights down, it's tough. The case has magnets which aren't useful to me as there's nothing magnetic nearby, but it fits snugly and makes it easier to hold and find the remote. That being said, the main reason I picked this particular model was because it's supposed to glow in the dark. I'm pretty sure you'd have to leave it on the surface of the sun for a few hours for that feature to work. I get tons of light in my apartment all day and it sits underneath a lamp when I'm not using it in the evening, but it never glows in any useful fashion once the lights go off. If I aim a flashlight directly at it for a while it will glow, sure. But that's not particularly helpful.4Disappointed with the feel--too slick This cover fits the Apple TV 4K controller well and does not block or impede the keys. The color is more of an orange red than a blue red; I wanted a cover that would make it easy to find, so the exact shade of red was not as important. My disappointment is in the feel of the cover. The bare controller is slippery and difficult to hold; this silicone cover is a minimal improvement. I purchased a black one of a different brand here on Amazon; it was $5 less expensive and suffers from the same lack of tackiness. I will likely not replace it for a while but not until I find a cover that offers a less slippery feel. 3Which end is up? I bought this after a quick search, and I'm very happy with it. My wife and I recently switched from our home-grown Media Center PC to an Apple TV for all of our TV watching. The new remote on the AppleTV takes some getting used to, but the one complaint I could not work around is that I could never keep it straight as to which end is up, especially in the dark. This case really did the trick and makes the remote much easier to hold. The bright color helps me not lose it in the sofa cusions. 5You re not going to fully realize how great of a product this is until you actually buy ... You re not going to fully realize how great of a product this is until you actually buy it. After using the Siri remote for over a year and still constantly confused on the orientation of the remote, I bought this case for the hell of it. The case looks and feels great. It also fits the remote perfectly. I for one did removed the optional magnets as I feel no need for it. Now not only is the remote is so much easier to find on the couch, I m always picking up the remote with the correct direction. The company also has amazing customer support. My only regret is not buying this case earlier. 5No more trying to use the remote backwards! I really like this Apple TV remote case. I saw one at a friends house and ordered one for myself. It has a nice grip to it so the remote doesn t slip out of my hand anymore. The biggest plus is that I don t try to use the remote backwards anymore - you know, when you mistake the glass part at the bottom for the touchpad. I used to do this ALL THE TIME. It was the most minor of inconveniences, yes, but with this case, it no longer happens. One thing I almost removed instantly was the cheap lanyard. I m glad I didn t, as it has come in handy as well. Makes the remote easier to fish out of the couch cushion. In my opinion, this is a must-have addition to your Apple TV remote. 5It does the jobI dropped my remote countless times. I definitely passed the limit of probability where it should have shattered. This sleeve has definitely extended the life of the remote from accidents.Get this one than the other ones. It's slim and the grip is great. It doesn't get dirty nor sticky, and I have kids < 7 years old who play with this.Worth it.Other plus features:* The magnets can be removed.* Even if they don't work for you, you could replace them for a stronger magnet* The magnet to the TV is really cliche, I tried it, but I only put my TV at risk of getting smudged with dirty hands. Plus it looks ugly with a TV remote block on the side. I am not dissatisfied for having to store it like a regular remote.* The control is lifted from the surface a bit from each end (like a bridge), so there is less surface area for it to get dirty if you place it somewhere filthy by mistake.* The grip is ergonomically squishy. Sometimes I just grab the remote to play with the sleeve... but don't do that. You'll end up changing channels, shows, and maybe turning off the TV. Just use it for what it's intended for.* I never played or used an app that required me to use the sides of the touch platform on the remote. So don't make it a deciding factor for choosing the right sleeve. This remote sleeve will do.5Makes an Awful remote usable Looking at the Apple TV remote, the specs are awesome, sexy. But as for usability its just awful. The track pad is a great idea, but did anyone try to use it in a normal home environment. The second you pick it up you changed the channel or did something you did not intend to do. God forbid you use in bed, it falls down and the sheets start changing the channel for you. Now, in the dark it goes from bad to worse, you have no idea if its right side up, down or flipped around, by that time, guess what it changed the channel. Don't get me wrong, I prefer the Apple TV over everything else, but I use the Roku all the time, just because the remote is so much better. So this is where the case comes in. it make the piece of artwork called the apple remote usable. It's tactile and you can pick it up with out everything going wonkie. 5This thing is great but yeah, it blocks ffw and rew Annoyed at Apple again, remote appears cute but is too small and light. Ordered the case and things changed. I immediately discarded the wrist strap and played with the thing. I don t have any use for the magnets but the case is shaped slightly like an old telephone handset and is quite comfortable in the hand. Next thing you know, I ve figured out the task manager, zoom, and the far right side scroll. I also re-assigned the Home button, which I recommend. Problem is there s a raised rim which seems to block the top corner controls. I would like to buy a second one but I think I need to look at reviews of similar products. So, I went from hating the remote to loving it because of this silly case I had to buy. Now, if you have an iPhone or iPad, maybe even recent iTouch, download the Apple Remote app, the current version is pretty good. You can also sync the tv product to your device such when a text input is required, it can be done from the iPad/phone. Try that. 4A total winner - the Apple remote is now tamedThe unadorned Apple remote is a nightmare--too small, slippery, way to easy to grab carefully yet still be holding it upside-down or somehow push your finger along the touch pad inadvertently and screw up whatever it is you are watching or listening to. Some folks have fixed this by use of the iPhone or iPad app, which is fine, but I thought I would see if the Apple remote itself could be tamed, simply and cheaply.Googling things like "I hate the Apple remote" was hugely fruitful, albeit often producing expensive alternatives. This little silicone thing is about 10 bucks, holds the remote snugly while allowing access to every feature, completely changes the form factor into comfort and security, and it has a perfect nonslip feel and finish--it turns the stupid Apple remote into something worthy and (almost) flawlessly useful.I don't know what the little lanyard is for, but it's fun to play with. Go ahead and get it in the color of your choice (mine's a rich red, making it easy to find and cool-looking). It's five stars, definitely.5WAAAY overpriced. At $12 this is grossly overpriced. It's just a flimsy silicone shell, that if I had had a chance to play with it hands-on beforehand I would have been hard pressed to spend $5 on. The pictures make it look like a firmer plastic (I guess that's on me for not reading the description more closely). Also, it tends to make 10-second fast-forwarding and rewinding more difficult, since the edges are raised around the track pad.I'd say it at least does its job of communicating which end is up on the ergonomically-challenged Siri Remote, but you can slap an embossed sticker on one end of your remote that'll do that job perfectly well, and be out a whopping 25 cents. 3
