Customer Reviews

Good headphones I have a large head and these headphones fit me well and are comfortable for hours of wear. For someone who doesn't know much about audio quality or anything, all I can say is that these headphones do have a much higher quality of sound than typical earbuds or cheaper headphones and anyone would be able to tell. These headphones do block out quite a bit of exterior noise too which is great as I am sensitive to too much noise. These headphones serve me well and I think they were worth it. 5I love these headphones I love these headphones. The cost was excellent~ the sound and fit are perfect! I was hesitant to buy a pair that wasn't one of the main brands that everyone seems to get, but I didn't want to spend a lot of money, either. They fit perfectly over my ears (I do have a smaller head/ears, but they are the same size as others I have seen). The padding is comfortable, I can wear them for a long period of time. The sound is full no matter what I am listening to, and other outside sounds are muffled, which is great as I can wear them when working in a coffee shop or wherever with minimal distraction. The wire is nice and long, so it provides a lot of flexibility. It is also durable. They fold up nicely (they don't bend at the top, but the part that goes over your ears fold in. I just put them into a small fabric bag I have, just to keep them protected somewhat.GREAT SERVICE TO REPLACE! I had brought my first pair on a work trip to Italy and because of the set-up of the airplane seats, the guy next to me walked by and bumped where I had them plugged in and bent my jack. They still worked a little after, but not as great (I had to hold the jack in a certain place). I emailed Edifier, and they sent me a new pair! The service was quick and they were very nice to replace. I am glad to had my new pair before going on more long trips as they are really great for traveling. 5It can help him deal with new things (especially things worn) if he feels like he has choices in selecting them I purchased these for my 9 year old to use with his iPad. Our last pair (different brand) stopped working. I anticipated that my son might have issues with a replacement set because he has sensory issues of all kinds. So, I ordered two sets: this one, and also an exact match for the set that had stopped working. It can help him deal with new things (especially things worn) if he feels like he has choices in selecting them. He tried both pairs on, and this set was the clearly preferred set. He reported that the other pair had a strong odor but these don t. He also reported that the other pair was squeezing his ears but this set fit him very comfortably. I ll keep the other set for myself, but I m really happy with how the Edifier set worked out for him. He s been happily using them for about a week now. 5The cucumber quelling For weeks, I languished in that new, strange, closeted cubicle. After years of telecommuting, I'd awaited the opportunity to get to know my coworkers face-to-face and have some human contact! It wasn't to be.Cucumbers. Thrice a day--that's an eight-hour work day, mind you--my neighbor crunches on crisp crunchy cucumbers and it drove me insane on only my first day in the office. I couldn't go on.Should I tell her that cucumbers spread leprosy? Malaria?! My flimsy iPhone ear buds weren't cutting it, and I couldn't just talk to you. That would be too direct. Then I found these. Today, I donned these lightweight, comfortable, trendy or whatever headphones and I did smell cucumbers at one point but I didn't hear them. And then I came here to share my story. Thank you. 5A headset for stereo music only - excellent quality/transaction!! I needed to replace my 7 year old head set that I use for music only. It is very difficult to read descriptions to find something like an old fashioned head set for music only. No microphone, no ear buds, not a gamer, not for jogging, etc. Just music at the volume I want that won't disturb anyone else! The information describing the head set included the type of connection, the Y in the cord & the length of the cord. I took a chance & for the 2nd or 3rd time I took a chance that I was understanding the description. This head set is EXACTLY what I was looking for. When I heard my first CD I realized how OLD my previous headset was! Sounded it was a remastered CD! I have quite a few of those & can't wait to hear how they will sound - hear things you haven't heard for a few years! I was so impressed that I went into Edifier's web site & bought another pair for the future! This transaction, shipping & product are fabulous!! 5An Impressive headset with some minor drawbacks. The "H840's" by Edifice is a pretty decent, wired headset that comes in at a very attractive price.I've had slight reservations with some of Edifier's other headphones, in particular the very thin wiring .The connecting wiring is thin here as well but the c comfort and the generally flat-response speakers makes this an attractive gift because of its versatility in playing back a wider range of music without sound reproduction becoming compromised because of either excessive bass. The 840's as I mentioned are very soft and comfortable to hold and to wear.It has a standard 3.5mm head that one can plug into a variety of sources.Where the highlights are the sound, feel and fit, one can also make the case that the headset's thin wire means that one will have to be extremely careful. Also, speaker doesn't have a volume button if you wanted to jam out. Even on the maximum level, these weren't loud at all.So, Edifier has a very nice "over-the-ear," but it must deal with the speaker volume and the connecting wire. 4I'm a transcriptionist, so I live in headphones. ... I'm a transcriptionist, so I live in headphones. I got these as a second pair but actually prefer their sound dampening characteristics to my *Bose*. I'd definitely buy them again. 5If you're thinking about quitting your job because your coworker eats crunchy food all day... The person sitting at a desk 10 feet away from me eats 2 apples, a pound of baby carrots, and a quarter cup of almonds every single day, five days a week (at exactly the same times every day). He spends 1 hour and 33 minutes of each day crunching loudly on something (I've timed it). I'm mad at myself for not saying something the first week we shared an office together, because now it's too late. How do you tell an otherwise nice person that you're at the brink of institutionalization because of his eating habits, which haven't varied for a single day in 4 years? I've tried dropping subtle truth bombs, like "Did you know that an apple has nearly as many grams of sugar as a donut? Crazy..." to no effect. Thanks to the "crunchy cucumbers quelled" review on this very product, I gave these noise-isolating headphones a try. They have very nice sound quality for both music and podcasts, and they do what they say they'll do: they isolate noise. But they don't cancel it. I can still hear the initial CRACK of the first bite of the apple through these headphones with music on at a reasonable level, but the subsequent chewing has disappeared. I think it's enough to save my sanity, and my job. 4great sound, but two significant design flaws Overall, these are awesome headphones, and sound-wise stand toe-to-toe with headphones 2x-3x the price. Isolation is great, the sound is warm, with a nuanced soundstage, and a nice balance across the frequency spectrum. They are biased just a bit on the bass end, but it's more 'spice' than 'pulverize', and I say this as an avid listener of techno and psytrance.Unfortunately, they have two downsides that result in the 4-star rating. The worst is the awful creaking that develops with wear at the two plastic-on-plastic earcup insertion points - where the headband's wishbone earcup holder connects with the earcup. This is just poor design, as a simple metal pivot here (or even a decent plastic-to-nylon isolation) would have totally avoided this problem. As it is, I will likely puff a small amount of graphite (the kind you use on sticky doorlocks) into the two point on each earcup) to quiet the creaking.A second element is the earcups are fairly small. I can wear the headphones comfortably for long periods, but I have to work my ears into the earcup a little when I put them on, so my ears end up tucked slightly into the earcup; with my other favored over-ear headphones like the Sony MDR7506 and Kingston HyperX Cloud, the inside of the earcup doesn't even touch my ears as I put the headphones on)UPDATE July 2018: I did the thing with the graphite, and the creaking has never returned. The Edifier H840 has become my go-to for everyday listening, and the sound isolation is particularly noteworthy for such light over-ear headphones. Highly recommended! 4Bass Heavy, Muddy Not Neutral or Transparent Maybe the H840s I received are defective. Out of the box they were overly bass heavy, muddy and exaggerated in the low midrange. I hooked the Edifers up to 72 hours of constant music in a variety of genres. I have been an audiophile for decades. Sonically, these are the worst headphones I have ever used. Giveaway ear buds sound better. They are comfortable but not worth wearing. If you prefer a neutral sound these are not for you. If you care about nothing but mid-bass these will suit your needs. If you like muddy vocals, these are for you. If you have two large bass modules in your trunk, pumped up to extra bass to lift your wheels off the ground, these will be brilliant for you. They are that bad. I really wanted to like them. They are Comfortable. But, they're not worth gifting; otherwise I'd give them away. I don't throw away audio equipment. I might make an exception for these or keep them in case my hearing goes awry. Maybe they're defective. That's the best I can say. I read the good reviews before I bought them through Amazon. Perhaps it was My mistake hooking them up to a quality audio system. I wanted a live transparent sound. Maybe that's not what they are designed for. Hooked up to an iPod they are bad, just not as bad. 1
