Easy install but make sure there's room. Like others have stated, these are somewhat deeper than normal outlets so make sure you have the required space in the box. The most difficult part of the installation was ensuring I had moved the wires and wire nuts out of the way so the receptacle would fully seat in the box. These don't come with wall plates so make sure you have them on-hand or you'll be running to Lowe's / Home Depot / Ace / to finish. My family likes these devices very much even though they're really only good for cell phones and such. We have several like-devices (iPhones, iPods, etc.) and have purchased additional cables or acquired them over time so this receptacle allows a cable to be left in the wall while the plug-in charger and another cable can stay in a bag.Pro:Provides a USB charger in areas where you charge devices and only really use 1 outlet.Allows that "extra" USB cable to stay in the wall ready to charge devices and your wall charger with cable to stay in your bag.Provides some "cool points" because these are not yet in every home.Con:Only a low-power charger so really only appropriate for phones and such.I don't consider the depth or the lack of a Decora wall plate too detrimental as long as you know beforehand, and now you do. 4Excellent Eaton TR7740W-K Combination USB Charger with Tamper Resistant Receptacle. Exceeds Expectations ! Eaton TR7740W-K Combination USB Charger with Tamper Resistant Receptacle. We are constantly misplacing our phone chargers ! --- Mounted this 6-inches above the Kitchen / Family Room Pass-Thru where we Sit on Bar Stools for Breakfast. Central Location --- everyone sees it ... and TWO Dedicated USB Cords feed the charging phones. Current is fed from a nearby GFCI Feed line. A Green Light turns on and blinks When Phone is Charging. Solid Green Light when Finished Charging. My Expectations are Exceeded ... Good Price -- Very Good Value --- I Highly Recommend this USB / Receptacle ! 5Low charging output... Not clearly stated and a major bummer. Hardly worth the install time Quality item, Im an electrician and I like Cooper devices, but this product only gets 2 stars because the USB output is only .7 A.. I have another similar unit with a 2.0A output which is much better and charges devices much faster. I probably should have read the product description more closely, but it didnt clearly state the low charging output in the overview. Thus the 2 stars. Otherwise its well made, has the nice pressure plate connections which is great for stranded wire (except for the ground screw, another minus) So all in all I wont be buying this particular product again, The charging light is a nice feature but if you want a high output charging receptacle look elsewhere. 2Does it's job well. This outlet is a genius invention. I'm a big electronic gadget and tech enthusiast so I have a lot of stuff that needs to be charged. Phones, tablets, console game controllers, little tiny rc helicopters, it goes on and on. This thing is awesome to have a dedicated spot to charge all that stuff. Mine doesn't sit completely flush in my wall outlet, though. I haven't pulled it back apart after installing it to figure out what's binding it up but it could be entirely my fault. (I would guess my wires might just be pushing it out a little on one side.) The only thing I didn't anticipate (and really should have) is that a standard outlet wall cover won't fit. You'll need one with a rectangular cutout, not the two ovalized cutouts. A trip the hardware store and 79 cents solved that problem. It also has a green LED to let you know when your device is pulling power, so that's nice. I'm thinking about buying a couple more and sticking them all over the house now. It's such a simple and genius idea. 5Get Rid of the Charger Plugs... This is a great feature to have in my kitchen and my kids' rooms. This alleviates the need to have a charging plug with me or my kids all the time, which they usually forget at school or their mom's house. The outlet has a good charging rate of 2.1 amps. The one challenge is the depth of the outlet, plus the need to use wire caps to connect the outlet to the circuit. These two things combined will be challenging if your outlet box is a shallow depth box, or if there are a lot of other wires in there from other outlets or switches. Aside from that it was very easy to install. When using the wire caps with the leads on the outlet, I would recommend stripping back the insulation a littler further since the wire is braided, vice solid core copper. The braided wraps around the solid core house wiring more, so you need a bit more length. 5Good size and design; poor amp rating Finishing is good but the USB port is rated at 0.7A only, which is not enough if you are charging an iPad and an iPhone. For two phones is OK, but otherwise you need a more powerful USB port. Other than that, construction and look are good. I can live with the 0.7A since this receptacle is installed in the living room and will be used in rare occasions. The one thing to note when buying USB receptacles and which I like about this one is that it is USB on top and 120V on the bottom, clearing the way for large wall transformer. When you look at the majority of the USB receptacles, they come with two 120V ports and the USBs are in the middle, but honestly you will rarely be able to use the two 120V ports and the USBs at the same time cause space becomes VERY limited. It is not the case for this one from Cooper. 3USB and standard 110V in one? Is this the future or just a handy way to get through the next decade or so? I have used these on several outlets now and I must admit, they are very handy to have. It is only 15 AMP, but for one outlet and 2 USB that should be sufficient. It works great so far and was a breeze to install like any other outlet - ground, black and white wires go where they're told. I do also like the alternative version: Leviton Decora 15 Amp Combination Duplex Receptacle and USB Charger - White, which gives 2 USB and 2 outlets, especially if you are tight on space. So far both work great! I will be interested in seeing how long this is relevant, but it is simple to swap back or, I assume to the next electrical device, so if you have any USB devices, this is a great choice for you. We have some at the bedside for our tablets and phones as well as in the livingroom and guest room for convenience. 5Thumbs down I have installed several USB receptacles in my house but I bought this one to place next to my nightstand to charge a phone while sleeping. The product description says that a green led will light while the device is charging and will "go out" when complete. Well the first part is accurate. The first night that I used it, I woke up to find an erratic, white strobe effect coming from the led. I checked the phone it was fully charged. I used it a second time a few days later and found the same result when it was fully charged. Maybe mine is just faulty, who knows. Either way, I would not recommend this one. I gave it a second star since it did in fact charge my phone. When seeking one out, go with one offering 4A or better of power delivered to the ports. This one would not be suitable for say, charging two tablets at once as it only gives a max of 1A to each port. 2Not Enough Juice To Power Firestick I originally installed it behind my two night tables to recharge my wife's and my phone at night. Worked flawlessly. Then recently I got Amazon's Firestick for my TV and it already has Chromecast using up the only USB from my TV to power it. So I bought another one of this outlet for the wall plate behind my TV w/ the idea that it will power my newly acquired Firestick. The short of it is that it doesn't provide enough power to my Firestick causing it into some known looping issue. It worked powering my Chromecast while I switched to powering my Firestick w/ my TV's USB instead.Just thought I share the experience just in case someone else if thinking of using it to power their Firestick. :-) 4For the mr/ms gadget it you! I live in a tiny house, so all things cool I like to add to it. This is one cool product that, established homes don't have and is eye catching. It works great. If you are building new or remodeling you should get one for every space. Especially the bathroom! 5
