Customer Reviews

DMKFoto Heavy Duty Ball Head with Quick Release... I have a monopole that I use a lot with several different types of cameras, including an icon 3100, a Fuji film waterproof, and a cannon as well as a couple of different video cameras truthfully the unit works well however it does weigh quite a bit, and you will need a spacer actually on both of the two monopoles that I have I needed the spacers but it is possible it won't be necessary for your monopole. However I found them much cheaper at ace hardware and the nuts and bolts aisle. Other than the weight this unit is worth every penny it has come in handy allowing me to tilt the camera to the angle I want while using the monopole to get above people when filming my daughters recitals. 3A big, beefy ballhead for bruisers Definitely a sizeable unit. Fits the larger size mounting bolt (3/8) on my Manfrotto tripod but if it was just a bit wider it'd come into contact with the set screws on the tripod base that locks the other heads into place and prevents twisting. The quick release plate fits very snugly and snaps in with confidence. Definitely has some resistance as I move it to adjust position. One knob controls all positions: thinking about it I'd probably be better off with an additional knob that adjusts panning without losing the leveling but really it isn't a deal breaker. Seems to be well built. For the money I think it's a good buy--it doesn't look to be cheaply made, presumably from the land known for shoddy manufacturing practices (and leaded milk). For about another tenner I'd have achieved more control over panning and tilting. No documentation of any kind included. 4Incredibly affordable, but the lubrication is filthy. Keep the price in mind, Keep the price in mind, Keep the price in mind! For a fraction of what a genuine Manfrotto quick release plate would cost, you get an imitation one plus a sturdy ball head. Now, nobody in their right mind would expect smooth gliding movement from a unit at that price. But there HAS to be a better way of greasing this than the thick, BLACK, dirty stuff they used here. I would have preferred to get the whole thing un-lubricated and using something I find myself. After all, you're handling this at the same time as your expensive photo and/or video gear, and in close proximity to your valuable lenses. I'll try to clean it. 3Proper kit for peanuts. Other than not quite being a stock Manfrotto size, this is a ridiculously good ball head for a silly low price. Spend a few minutes to fully move it about and get that ball bedded-in, then clean out the grey goop and get some good quality grease on the ball and it s really really good. I own several Manfrotto heads, and sure - they re a bit better, but for the difference? This is the best of the bargain ball heads I ve seen. Don t be swayed by the snazzy anodized aluminum bits on some of the others - they re not a patch on this less-flashy option. Smooth, solid, latching release, accurate level - proper kit. 5Heavy duty head at an incredible price! Wow, let me start out by saying I can't believe the low price for this ball head! Second, I was surprised at how large it was when it arrived. This thing is solid metal and heavy duty, in my humble opinion. It weighs over a pound (18 ounces). If you order this, be aware the mounting threads on it are 3/8 female. So if you're mounting it to a 1/4" male thread as I did, you'll need to order some 1/4" to 3/8" adapters to screw into the mounting hole. I ordered a set from Foto&tech. It would be nice if DMKFoto had these adapters in stock and offered to include them for an additional charge. That aside, I still feel this item is a steal of a deal! 5Very nice for the price! I bought 2 of these for astronomical work, and what I received is pretty impressive considering how inexpensive they are! The illustration in this Amazon item page is actually a "WF-001H" - I know because I ordered 2 but received a "WF-001H" and a "WF-002H"! The WF-002H is slightly "beefier", being larger and slightly more massive - it will securely hold a slightly heavier camera. But, I'm entirely satisfied with the construction of both - they are strong, massive, and the quick release plate is, thankfully, the same size on both so they are interchangeable. One comment I read before purchase said "Why'd they put the bubble level under the lens?" I did not let that comment bother me, but as I suspected, hey, just turn the camera/quick release plate around and the bubble level is clearly visible at the back of the camera and not under the lens! The ball socket is a bit "rough" at first, but just loosen the release lever, and manually rotate and flex the socket for a while and it "works" itself into a smooth motion and from then on, it's easy to reposition and lock. This product is very solid for the price, and will do the job it was designed to do! 5Well built, lots of friction I ve had this ball head for about 5 years now and I ve used it nearly every day (photography is my hobby and I m a realtor so I take plenty of photos) and it still looks brand new. It s built like a tank. It does weigh a fair bit and it s not the smoothest movement...for example, I could move my small Panasonic mirrorless and probably not need to tighten the screw to even hold it in place, meaning there s a lot of built in friction between the ball and the joint. Sometimes this was actually a good thing as I didn t fight to keep the camera stable as much while tightening the screw. The bubble is a nice feature. Good product and well built. 5Manfrotto RC2 / 200PL-14 Quick Release Plate Solid quality. A bit on the heavy side, but that should be expected from a head that's all metal. 5 stars.I'm mostly writing this review to confirm that the Manfrotto RC2 quick connector plate will fit in this. One caveat is though that the Manfrotto plate can move about 1/4 - 1/2 inch left or right (the rim on the plate's bottom is shaped differently than the supplied plate) but not to a point that the camera could fall off.I'm happily using this on my Slik Sprint Pro II Tripod which came with a lousy ball head.Don't forget to check if you need an adapter screw, this head has a 3/8 inch screw hole. 5This item is probably great to have As a new photo hobby enthusiast I'm not familiar with a lot of stuff and gadgets. But I'm learning the hard way.I recently bought a mono-pod and the ad suggested this ball head and I bought it.This item is probably great to have, problem is that the company offering it does not say anything an attachment needed in order to fit on the mono-pad.And to add insult to injury,to return for credit I have to pay the post office. My chief complaint is that these guys are not up front with the true price. 1Well it holds my Canon 60D at a 90 degree ... Well it holds my Canon 60D at a 90 degree angle on a tripod I use for night photography. I have noticed that after the first use I am getting wear between the ball and the housing. It was a little stiff so I tried using a silicone lubricant but that was a mistake as it was now creating a gray slurry in the ball socket. Check the weight before you order - it is heavy, probably too heavy for use on a mono-pod. 3
