Customer Reviews

Cheap Chinese Very Soft Pot Metal StudsThe metal studs supplied with these numbers are very cheap molded pot metal. Because of this they cross-thread and break off very easily when you are trying to install into the thin brass plated pot metal number. Additionally, the studs that don't break off during installation into the number, will break if any load at all is put onto them when tapping into your wall. This is another example of cheap Chinese garbage being sold at a price you would expect a quality product. The price for these pieces of junk should be a couple bucks rather than a $100 for purchasing five numbers for my address sign. Hillman has lost its way, and these are a rip-off.1Be careful when installing! I Really like the modern look of the floating numbers. Amazon had them priced well so I ordered them. I was so exited I quickly read the instructions. Which were not very thorough. And attempted to install. I drilled the holes per the instructions and promptly broke the included screw. I re read the instructions, attempted the next screw and broke it too. Doh!I really wanted to use these numbers so I turned to my trusty pal Google to find what I was doing wrong. I couldn't find out the trick. At that point I decided to just drill the holes bigger than I needed and then use a filler to help adhere them without breaking anymore. That worked like a charm and I was able to finish installing the other numbers.Since I wanted my finished numbers to "float", I really needed the screws that were included in the package. I had already broke them, and was unable to source new ones. So I contacted The Hillman Group via their customer service email link on their website. They quickly replied to my inquiry and to my delight they mailed out new screws at no charge! Armed with my new knowledge on installation I quickly installed the last number. Now my house it looking good! 4Easy to install and looks great Very classy street number. Easy to install and looks great. 55 Excellent product5Poor quality I just ordered by second set of these to replace my first set. The finish on the first set corroded badly. Also the included mounting studs are very poor quality. They break off if any pressure is applied during installation. On the other hand, if you can get them installed without breaking the mounting studs, they look good - at least for a little while. I wish I could find the same thing made with higher quality materials. The photo shows the corrosion after about three years on my house (mostly out of the weather). 2Screws sheared off... The numbers look nice, however the screws sheared off when we tried to hang them. Now we are left with holes in our siding and numbers that are impossible to hang unless we glue them to the siding. 2Four StartGood product.45 Excellent product5Are these made of Papier-Mache? JUNK. 6 of 15 screws snapped in half. Template mis-aligned. This is right up there in quality with Target-brand floating shelves, which is to say made with zero engineering expertise, clearly never field tested, and with the tensile strength of a graham cracker.Per instructions, did a "test fit," which resulted in multiple screws snapping off IN THE HOLES in the side of my house. Out of 15 screws, only 9 survived the installation. See pics.Furthermore the template, meant for alignment, is misaligned. When I aligned the templates, the "2" was significantly lower than the other 4 numbers, which seems to defeat the purpose of an alignment template?Ended up gluing the whole mess to the side of my house with unhealthy quantities of silicone, since any other alternative (including trying better numbers) would have left unsightly holes in the side of my house filled with broken-off screws. You're better off to draw the numbers on your house in jumbo crayon. 1Do NOT use the templates The numbers look goos, but the pegs are very poor quality. Of the nine pegs (I bought three numbers) three of them had a noticeable bend. The bend isn't a huge deal, since nobody is going to look at the pegs, but it does mean that you can't use the template. That's right - don't use the template!1. First attach the pegs to the numbers (no need to tighten much, as you'll likely break them).2. The use lipstick or something to mark the pegs. My wife wouldn't let me use her lipstick, so I used Nutella!3. Carefully align the pegs on either the template, or if you know exactly where you want it, right onto the wall. I marked the templated, then taped them to the wall.4. Now use a center punch on the lipstick or Nutella marks to create a starter hole in the wall.5. Double check that the pegs align with the center punch holes.6. Drill the holes.7. Finally ensure that the numbers fit in the wall without any effort. You cannot break a peg on this step - if it doesn't enter without effort your holes are not aligned.8. Remove the numbers, fill the holes with clear silicon and put the numbers back in place. Tape them there until the silicon dries.Hope this helps - good luck everyone!I've attached a few photos to reenforce my main point - do not use the templates! 4Screw in bolts by hand & drill with 1/8 drill bit Read a bunch of reviews on these numbers before installing. They re a little complicated but so affordable and look really nice. The first thing I did was screw the bolts into the back of the numbers, BY HAND. I screwed them in till just tight. I didn t want to overtighten and have the bolt break. Then, I laid the numbers over top of the number templates, and marked new holes. They don t line up perfectly because the screws aren t straight. Next, tape the numbers together so they re spaced perfectly. Tape to spot where you want the numbers to go. Poke holes in each marked spot on the templates. Drill 1/8 drill bit hole NOT the 1/4 they recommend. Gently push the numbers into their respective drilled holes. The 1/4 hole will be too large, 1/8, makes it perfectly snug so we didn t need glue/caulk. Numbers went in with gentle force and none of the screws broke for me.Good Luck! 4Don't mount as directed....here's a better way This material is a plastic resin; as well as the hardware. To avoid breaking the mounting screws, hand tighten each one onto the back of each number. Draw a solid level line on the surface where the numbers will go; include the distance apart you want them. Put lipstick on each screw end that's mounted on the back of the number...level each number at the top of the line, then push the screws against the surface to transfer the lipstick (pattern). Then drill your surface with a drill bit that is the same diameter as the screw. Use epoxy to fill the hole or 100% silicone, then immediately mount each number in it's place. This worked so well for me I just had to help others. This mounting screw is also sold in metal at the hardware or home improvement stores, but I would still install the numbers this way. 4Does everything a 1 should do.This is one of the best 1's I have ever owned. It sits on my door, indicating my address in a stylish and golden manner. I'd buy it a beer if I could.5Bad Template guideUsed the templates for the numbers we purchased, the number 5 template was way off when you drilled the holes. Had to redrill holes and now will have to fill the first holes. Not Good!!1Cool style, nice price.I bought a set of these on a whim, figuring that at the price I had little to lose but the disintegrating wooden numbers that dangled haphazardly from my house.Based on the reviews posted here, I took extreme care in the installation of the metal studs. I didn't find them as fragile as some have reported. You do need to take care & not torque them heavily into the numeral - just use common sense. Also, be sure to use the templates for installation. Otherwise, your numbers will be crooked. Trust the templates & take your time.I did not install the numbers floating, nor did I want to drill such a deep hole into the surface of my house, so I actually modified the studs somewhat. I cut them in half and filed grooves into the smooth portion of the stud that remains, to give the glue something to grab onto. I then followed the installation instructions, using silicone in the holes and mounted the numbers flush to the house. The numbers are very clear & easy to see.5Nice looking numbers but two of the pegs broke off ... Nice looking numbers but two of the pegs broke off when I installed them. Able to fix with construction adhesive. 3Templates do not match up! Otherwise perfect!I love the look of these numbers. They are just what we were looking for. The only issue we saw was that some of the numbers do not match up with the template. So make sure you mark the correct spot before you drill. They did not seem very complicated to put up, we used silicone and they are very firm in place. They seem pretty durable too unlike what other reviews have mentioned.4Modernized mail box with numbersNumbers have modern look and I was very please with the outcome!5Cheap productUtterly disappointed that the product fell apart in my hands during the start of installation. Had all the directions and was installing step by step but the mounting screws snapped like toothpicks. Would love to get refunded all 3 numbers. They are pretty but absolutely not functional.1
