    Great Grates! I bought these for my kitchen floor. They come in 2 parts. THe top part is heavy and has feels like cast iron. I think it's metal with a rough black coating. The bottom part is plastic and felt rather fragile, so I had some breakage concerns. I snapped them together and put them in the vent and then wiggled the plastic on/off several times. It worked much better than my old metal vents and didn't seem as fragile once installed.When the vent was off the air was completely blocked. WHen open, the air flowed though quite nicely. The openings in the plastic look like they are about 1/4" squares, so stuff can fall through but it would have to be small.They look great with my new wood floors, providing the hint of elegance I was looking for. They do have screw holes if you want to use them as ceiling vents. 4Reccomend!!! These are awesome!! We started with buying just a few for the main level to see if we would even like them. We ended up 3 days later buying 12 more! They are really durrable, look really really nice, and are easy to open and close! 5Looks more expensive that it is Very nice and substantial-looking for the price. I haven't noticed any loss of cooling because of the less-open grid, probably because it's located far enough from the HVAC system blower that the cooled air pretty much wafts out, rather than blows.The only negative is that the lever that adjusts the grid sticks up where it can be moved by anything moving across it, as my Roomba does repeatedly. I solved that problem by inserting a piece of cork between the lever and the side which keeps it in the open position. 4sharp looking registers They do look a lot better than the old wall registers someone had put in my floors. Was surprised at the weight of the registers. For the price they definitely seem to be worth it. Only issue I had involving the 10 I had ordered was one had a broken lever that operated the slide. I looked to get it replaced, but there were so many hoops to jump through that I glued it and put it on a floor vent out of ANY traffic area. Should hold up fine glued, just didn't think I should need to repair a 'new' purchase. 4Upscale look without upscale price tag I moved into a new home and the grates were old, dingy, and looked like garbage. When you are trying to decorate or create a more upscale look, there is nothing like an eye-sore on the floor to kill the mood. So I bought more than a few of these because the price seemed good compared to what I found at the big-box home improvement stores. These are a pretty solid combination of metal and hard plastic. I've seen the all-metal more expensive registers and these look every bit as good.I ordered through Amazon and got them quickly & in great shape. No issues there.I'm using these in all rooms in the house and have run hot and cold air through them with no issues. Kitchen - no issues. Bathroom - no issues. Living room - no issues. I would purchase these again especially to avoid high costs elsewhere. 5They are very nice for the price Very important. The damper/flow adjuster feature restricts flow to about 50% of a non dampered unit. Be sure if you are replacing your existing ones with these that you can do with less flow as these flow less than other brands with dampers. Most dampers when fully open do not restrict the flow beyond the reduction for the grate itself which is present even in non dampered registers. They are very nice for the price. 4Great look, but top is only metal, rest is plastic Great for price. These are pretty nice for the price, I wish they were completely metal rather than the just the top. They are hard plastic on bottom, and vent opener is also plastic. This isn't a big deal for me being I leave mine open all year for heating and cooling. If you are going to use them for opening and closing then they most likely won't last long for you. 4Great Rhymey review We bought a new house when we moved to town.But the new vents to our new hose were not black but Brown.So I took to the streets to find new ones you see.But the new ones I found in stores were very pricey!"To the Net" said my spouse. "Find new vents for our house!"After some searching and lots of distractions.I liked these for the price but doubted satisfaction.But I hit buy now! And waited two days.I was delighted my parcel was not in dismay!As I opened the box with much anticipation.I was greatful to see that it matched the description!It fit in my standard gate vent location.With no effort at all and no modification!These gate vents open and close with such ease!I can use just my pinkey toe if I so please!Much more sturdy than the ones in most stores.I went right back on Amazon and bought five more!To sum up my review I'd say I'm quite happy.My spouse is too so that's a wrappy! 5BEAUTIFUL!!! I love these! We have been remodeling our home and when we put in our new flooring I decided to upgrade our plain white vents. I have beautiful flooring, why should I have ugly vents?? I looked at Home Depot and lowes but the prices were rediculous! Over $30 a vent! To me that s outrageous! So when I came across these I couldn t resist. I have had so many compliments on these since I have installed them. Everyone asks where we bought them and are shocked at how inexpensive they are. I do wish they weren t matte because they are a little bit more difficult to keep clean as they show dirt and dust easy. We have a toddler, 6 large dogs, and a cat. But they wipe off easily. 5Love the look, quality product for a great price! Purchased these to replace some oak ones that never matched my kitchen floor. These look a zillion times better. They are sturdy and absolutely gorgeous. I have seen others comment on the louvers being plastic...I personally feel like what do you think you are going to get for this price??? Plus I don't see this as being a downfall??? It is all under the floor.....how strong do you need the louvers to be?? Maybe your airflow is way stronger than mine? 5
