Customer Reviews

A solid product. I just installed two of these wall plates 1/30/16. Very happy with the way install went, the only surprise I had was that is for 14 Guage wire. Not sure if i over looked that in the descripting or not, but I was surprised. Both plates had metal wings and they operated very smoothly. The outlets themselves have those safety inserts that require a lot of pressure to get the plug in the socket. In terms of the dimensions, I did a 7" x7" square and then did extra trimming of the sheetrock as needed. It ensured a snug fit. The only thing I would change about the product is I with there was something to close the gap that you run the video cables through. I'm not a big fan of leaving an opening between my room and the inner wall. I'll be cutting a little foam to close the Cresent moon gap. 4Great but... I purchased this to mount behind my TVs and hide cables. I would buy it again.Pro:It was very easy to install, works as advertised.Con:The outlet that is provided doesn't have typical screws for the wiring like other outlets, instead it has little holes. My house is wired with brand new Romex 12/3 and the wires wouldn't fit in the holes. I was unable to use the outlet. Fortunately I have an abundance of standard decora outlets laying around and was able to simply substitute it for one that worked. 4Product is really good and Easy to Install Does a great job, exactly what I wanted. I had never wired outlets before but with some research I was able to add one of these behind my TV and another on in my Pantry. This comes with the outlet and box to house the wires in. You cut the hole (template included and then place in in hole, it has clips that can be tightened to hold it to the dry wall. TIP: I would install in a inch or two of the stud. The Outlet that it comes with only has the pushing wire receptacles for the White and Hot. There are 4 hole for each. Then the Ground is a green screw on the side. I was easily able to add from existing outlet then add a second one off the new one. Will but again when I need another one. 5Great for wall mounted TV. Works great for behind a wall mounted TV. You are required to cut a 7-1/8 X 7-1/4 inch hole in the wall. That allows you easy access to stick your arm down in the wall to pull up wires. Note that the unit does not mount on any studs. In fact the left hand side of the unit needs to be about 3 inches to the right of a stud (see picture). This is because the AC electrical box protrudes to the left of the unit behind the wall. The AC outlet is just a normal outlet, no surge protection of Ground Fault protection on this model (other models have surge protection). If you want to add surge protection, a simple, cheap solution is this: Belkin SurgeCube Surge Protector with 1 Outlet It fits nicely (but it covers up one of the outlets) (see piciture). Installation instructions can be found searching Google for "Datacomm 45-0031". Note that only the first 2 pages of the instructions are for this unit. The other pages are for different model numbers. 5Awesome Plate for Clean Looking Setups Let me say first off there are some misconceptions about this plate based on the "most helpful" reviews that are older:- The locking tabs are made out of metal now and are no longer plastic- The plate itself is made out of a very sturdy plastic and does not feel cheap- You can install this on an outer wall that has insulation, just takes a bit of work- No issues with crosstalk/interference from low and high voltage wiring using standard shielded cabling (ran parallel)I used this for wall mounted TV and it worked great. I ran the following wires through the opening with room to spare:- HDMI x2- Optical- Component A/V- IR Extender (1/8" style cabling, similar to what is used for headphones)- Wii sensor bar extender cable- 16 gauge speaker wireI would recommend changing the outlet with a Leviton surge protected outlet (or similar product) if you do not have another option for surge protection, that is, an option that won't leave your setup looking like crap. You will need roughly 7 1/4 and 7 3/8" rectangular (not a perfect square) cut out based on template, but I would plan on 8 inches plus a few more inches on the electrical receptacle side as it goes into the wall at an angle.I really hate seeing this product getting stars knocked off of it because it is "to big" and the buyer didn't provision correctly to ensure it would fit into the allotted space. This is a really great product for clean looking wall mounted TV installations -- just make sure you have the room for it. 5They improved the mounting brackets A concern was all the reviews talking of the cheap plastic tabs on the brackets breaking off, the unit I received in Aug 2013 had all metal tabs, which seem quite sturdy. 5Not too bad... For the price, it's a "roomy" box that you can fold cables into, with a hole big enough to shove "extra" wiring back into the wall. The price is a big deal, because you can get less "space" and utility for twice as much money. Meanwhile, I have installed a lot of these things and they're fairly forgiving of "approximate" hole cuts and easy, once you get everything in order, to level, clean, and live with. Still, the quality is less than I'd prefer and there are too many "moving parts." Those tiny screws to hold the electric box on the back... Ugh. Seriously, do everything you can to fit and test this box before you get up on a ladder. You'll have a chance to deal with any "snags" in the process, you're less likely to drop parts or tools, and, you'll have a better idea what you need to do to avoid a meltdown once you get up in the air. Do yourself a favor and buy a better electrical outlet - this one lacks options and has that hated "child proof" door on the plug - not something you should need anyway for small children. And, yes, the big hole for the cables is good, but get some foam or something to fill in the hole... Sound, drafts, bugs - all love a big hole. On your pre-assembly, take note of the best orientation of the box considering your studs that could be in the way of the box "seating" in the wall, how (all) the wires run to the box and how'll they'll "tuck back" from the TV, and so forth. The quality could be better, but for the price you can do very well with a little thought and applied know-how. 3Just what I needed. I wanted to mount a TV on the wall of by bedroom. I found this and decided to give it a try. It was much easier than I thought it would be. I measured for the mount and then determined where to locate the recessed plug. I used the template provided to draw the cutting path and a drywall saw to cut the hole. In my application I had an active socket directly below the wall mount so I connected my romex to the existing outlet and passed the wire up behind the wall to the new hole. I made the connections to the new plug, and mounted the provided junction box to the recessed frame. Once that was complete I fixed the recessed frame to the wall, leveled it and tightened the screws against the tabs which secure the fixture against the drywall. I had read reviews that suggested the tabs were flimsy and easily broken. This was not my experience. The tabs seemed fine and secured firmly. Once the unit was installed and I successfully tested the circuit, I was ready to install the wall mount for the TV. I used the mount found here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AY98USQ/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_15 . This mount overlaps the edges of the recessed plug, but that was no issue. I did not have need of the cable run, but was able to tuck away excess power cable in the opening. If this is installed properly and cleanly, it actually looks very good. If not, it is at least it covered by the TV. I would recommend this to a friend. 5Nice recessed box that works great for sitting behind TVs, etc. I bought 3 of these (for 2 rooms) to mount behind my TV and media table. It comes with template to trace onto the drywall, but I think I just took measurements and used my square to trace out the cutout area. It was really easy to install and looks great on the wall. It fits flush and tight and I love it for the fact that it's retrofit and I can remove it at anytime to pull more cable into the wall (if need be) and into the box. I'd definitely recommend to anyone that needs it for a similar purpose. 5Good product This thing is very solid, affordable and easy to install. I have become a fan of datacomm solutions because of this. Highly recommended. Please make sure to take into account the dimensions of this solution since it maybe a bit large and difficult to hide if your TV is smaller than 47''. 5
