Customer Reviews

Good solution for flatscreen wiring/routing of cables. This is an excellent solution to running low voltage or structured wiring cables (read Eithernet/CAT5-6, speaker wires, HDMI, or others) behind the walls. Especially nice for wall hung flatscreens and allows you to route wiring behind the drywall. Note that if you are not pretty handy or have experience running wires in walls, you probably want a professional to do that. Other than the wiring itself, these boxes install very easily and quickly while dressing up an ugly cutout in your sheetrock. 5Installed on a wall with minimal clearance, slight modHello,I have a tv mounted on a wall in my studio and just had the hdmi cable dangling to the floor.Didn't really want to spend a lot of money and thought it would be nice to put the cable in the wall. This wall is an outer wall to the studio. Concrete with about 3/4 space then drywall. The product 1-Gang Recessed Low Voltage Cable Plate in white, would not fit. After taking a depth measurement and then used my hacksaw, I removed a small amount of the back. Now my cable Is hidden and mission accomplished.Overall, the product is made well and works as advertised.Even comes with the 2 screws to mount the plate.5Fits More Than You'd Think - Need Old Work BoxI am in the middle of building a Theater Room and needed a wall plate to run all my of wires through. Although, I must confess, I was really worried about how much would fit in it. Let me tell you, I have run a CL2 in wall rated subwoofer cable, 7 - 12ga in wall rated speaker wires, a 50' IR extension cable, a CL2 rated coax cable (mediabridge), a 50' CL2 HDMI (mediabridge) and still have room for more. Suffice to say, that this has pretty much all the room you will need for cables. On a side note this is created to work with low voltage cables (ie - no power cables or electrical outlet cables). As such, you do not run this into a regular blue electrical box (one reviewer was upset with how it did not fit in it). Instead, the directions clearly state you use a single gang low voltage old work box. Carlon makes some which sell for about $1.50 at home improvement stores. Amazon also sells them. Just keep that in mind when you are ordering this.5Excellent for TV MountingThis worked great for running AV to my flat screen wall mounted TV. I liked the 3-gang a little better than a 2 as I was able to open a bigger hole to see what was going on in the wall. I mounted my TV over a direct vent fireplace and this three gang allowed me to make sure I was strapped to a stud and greater than 2 feet in all directions from the fireplace. Overall it worked great. I was able to get my arm in the wall and move around much better than a 2-gang would have let me.For those that were talking about how to mount this to the wall, I think people don't realize that you should be using a mounting bracket with these. These are intended to go over a 3-gang box or low voltage mounting plate. If you don't have one, I picked up one and it mounted right to the drywall with ease and you don't have to worry about pulling it out. The reason it comes with the "flat screws like a light switch" as one reviewer put it is because it's designed to be installed like a light switch, NOT directly into drywall. If you need a low voltage mounting bracket: Vanco LV3 PVC Low Voltage Mount Brackets (Triple)I also uploaded a few pics if you need clarification. The only downside to be aware of is this does open up a large hole in the wall. Make sure you aren't creating a huge draft situation. I used a little cotton insulation (I would advise against fiberglass since it's exposed) and it stopped the draft. If you're worried, light a match and blow it out right in front of the plate, if the smoke goes straight up, you're good.5The Perfect Solution for Hidding TV and Cable Wires When I decided to mount my TV on the wall, I did not want all the wires hanging down. I did some research and found these DataComm 45-0002-WH 2-Gang Recessed Low Voltage Cable Plates. They provide a clean professional looking solution to hiding wires in the wall. The combination of this plate and Arlington LV2-5 Low Voltage Mounting Bracket was the perfect combination.Remember that you will need two. One at the TV and one at your entertainment / DVD player / Cable box.Pros:- Sure easy to install.- They are bright white and blend in with most standard light and outlet covers.- Sturdy thick plastic. You aren't going to easily crack the plate while tightening the screws.- The wider opening allows me two run two HDMI cables, 1 coaxial, 1 component cable through ( with room to spare)Cons:- Honestly, this was exactly what I was looking for. No complaints.I am quite pleased with these pates. I have had them installed for over a year and have not had any issues. I get a lot of complements on my mounted TV and how clean it looks. 5Really easy to installReally easy to install. Works great for cable management. Simple to install, just have to use anchors in your drywall if you don't use a box within the wall. Its easier to just drywall anchors, just don't cut too much drywall away or you'll be forced to use a box.I used anchors because I wanted this unit to be next to the cable jack on my wall, just made it look better and it was a better location than installing above or below with a box. The opening requires cutting drywall very close to the anchors, you will likely need an anchor with wings to secure behind the wall instead of screw in anchors.Either way, great for cable management and simple to install.5clean installThis item is easy to install and it does a nice clean job of hiding the wires after install. It is a must have for home theater enthusiast who want a nice clean look.update:still enjoy the item and it does what it's supposed to but i have had issues with the depth of the product and the space needed between the walls. The cables feed thru it effortlessly but they can only be fed one way. The wires can either come thru one end of the plate due to the design inside the wall, so it would be from the top or bottom. There is a curve inside the plate that will only allow the wires to be "run" inside the wall from one direction. so keep this in mid if you are trying to feed wires from both top and bottom, it can be done but it will be a more difficult install.5Great face plate for passing wires into conduitI used these with flexible PVC pipe (as conduit) to pass my low voltage video, network, other cables from my component closet to my projector. This way I can fish wires through as standards progress and I'm not stuck with HDMI, or some other cable in the wall. The smerf tube is corrugated and very difficult to pass cables through for very long runs whereas the smooth flexible pvc pipe does have that issue and lines up fairly well with the opening on these face plates. I will be using these again in the future. Somewhat expensive but makes for a very clean looking install.5It's a conduit. What'dya want? Seriously, it's a conduit; what can you say about a conduit? It's solid; not cheap plastic. It's nice and white. It conducts cables through it.I used this to run wires through the wall and down towards the floor. I was thinking about doing actual connectors for each cable, but then I realized that my needs were probably going to change as time went on and this allowed for me to grow. I'm glad I went this route since I'd have needed four or five plates to do what this double does.I have the following cables running through it, with room for more:3x HDMI1x xBox RCA Component/AV cable (which is huge)1x USB extension cable1x Power cable1x CoaxialThe component cable was needed because of the Turtle Beach xBox headset my wife uses, otherwise we could have used an HDMI.That would have required a plate for:1x for power1x for the component + A/V plugs (5 RCA plugs, three for component, one each for right/left sound)1x for a Coaxial + USB combo1 or 2 plates for the three HDMISo I used one double-wide plate instead of 4-5 single plates, which would have been hard to fit behind the TV. Plus there was room to add something like a second component cable if I need to. 5Easy to Install & So Nice Not to See Any More Wires!!! This made running wires up through the wall so easy and looks so well done. And I did it myself! Make sure you get the matching bracket to mount this to - This is just the face plate. Installation is simple! You just measure & level, cut the hole in the Sheetrock, install the bracket (again you buy this separate), and screw in this faceplate with the screws provided. We have an xBox, a Wii, a bluRay player and Uverse box and I was able to run all the wires through one (one upper behind the tv and one lower behind the entertainment console) of these plates. It's so nice to have the TV hanging on the wall and not see a single wire!!! 5Great This is only the top piece with the 2 screws. I thought it came with a Gang Plate but it doesn t.You ll need a gang plate or Gang box to attach it to. Although that s not what we did. We had to make new holes anyways so we just cut them smaller than the average socket size.2 inches by 3 inches for a perfect fit if you plan on just screwing it into the Sheetrock.5Dose the job It's a wall plate & the color matches other white wallplates so I'll focus my review on some issues that I ran across during & after installing. The depth of these was greater than the clearance between my walls so I simply cut back some of the backing with snips in till it fit flush. I'm sure they're designed for standard construction but with some reworking they'll fit in most situations. The description also clearly states that these are for low voltage cords only. I remember reading that when I purchased these but didn't really comprehend what it meant in till it was already in the mail & I realized that my plan of running the power cord to the tv through this plate would be a no go. If you want to hide the power cord you'll need a power bridge to comply with most building codes. DataComm sells a combo pack here on Amazon. This size is more suited for component cables or multiple hdmi cords. My old setup had multiple input cords from various devices & there was still plenty of room to spare. I'm now running everything to a receiver down low with a single hdmi out through the wall & this large plate is overkill. I regretfully bought these before fully planning out how I was going to run everything. Decide on what wires your going to run, where the plates will go, & what you might have in the future before selecting the plate size & set up. 4Great plates! For simplicities sake, I am going to just copy and paste my review for the single gang version of these plates below as they are from the same vendor/manufacturer. Hope it helps...These pass through cable plates, in my opinion, are a great deal. They shipped fast as heck (fast enough that when the package arrived I didn't know it was them because the order was placed so recently) and are a little cheaper than what I came across at my local hardware stores. There seems to be adequate room for the amount of cables that most people would need to pass through. This install was very basic (2 14ga. speaker wires, a subwoofer cable, and a Cat6 ethernet cable) and theres plenty of free space remaining. a 5.1 or larger surround setup should be fine I would think but if you are worried about it this seller also has these plates available in double gang applications as well.I will say, since some people get confused about this, but these are the plates ONLY and do not come with the old work low voltage wall box/brackets. They can be had for a couple bucks or less usually and the install job is pretty simple honestly. Basically just a stud finder to make sure you aren't gonna hit it (unless you feel daring or lazy enough to just use the old knock knock trick to find hollow space), drywall saw, and a Phillips screwdriver and you should be done in no time. A level also wouldn't hurt since there is no reason to cut and mount the box all cockeyed. 5Find some that come with steel brackets I bought a pair of low-voltage portholes exactly like this from Amazon a few years ago for the intended purpose, and they were great. Recently I ordered a second pair of these units, believing them to be identical to my original pair. oops. I didn't notice that they DO NOT come with the steel plates that insert to the drywall. Consequently I had to go out in search of a pair of steel plates that provided the four threaded holes to affix the white plastic pie to the drywall. All I could find were flat steel plates...which were nearly impossible to install, because they did not affix to the drywall; I had to hold each plate with my fingers poking through the plastic porthole whilst trying to BLINDLY line up the screw holes. It was a nightmare. Once they were in they were fine, but holy smokes I would NOT do it that way again. 2Read the Fine PrintOk, I have updated my review because I can't read. I bought this 3-Gang Recessed Low Voltage Cable Plate based on the pictures that detailed a base plate from which the outer plate would be attached. After the kind and highly professional response from DataComm and re-looking the ad on Amazon, I see the error of my ways. Lesson learned is that you have to read everything in the listing. With that, the quality of this product is very good. As a work around, rather than using the base plate, I made the hole in the drywall smaller so it would fit snugly. I then used a few small white drywall screws and it holds great.5Perfect for what I needed.I purchased this 2 gang low voltage receptacle to run a lot of wires through for a 7.1 surround sound system. That means it was large enough for 7 speaker wires, a cable TV wire, one HDMI cable and I also ran a spare HDMI through it just to hang there in case the first HDMI goes bad easier than fishing a replacement through the configuration of my set up. This two gang recepticle is the perfect size for all those wires with no room to spare. I like the way it sits flat on the wall and the cup portion of it goes back into the wall so even with all those wires coming out, it looks organized. I bought two of these one to go behind the TV (which could have been the single gang version because only the HDMI goes into the TV the speaker wires go to the speakers in the ceiling) and one to go near all the components (the receiver/cable box/DVD player). Note that you need to install an electrical outlet near your TV for plugging in the power cord. It is against building codes to run power cords behind the wall. So this should not be used for power cords. Note that it does not come with the mounting bracket so you need to purchase that separately. I highly recommend that you DO purchase that. It makes installation of this plate much more secure. I had to fish a lot of wires through this recepticle and with all that pulling and tugging I surely would have loosened the recepticle had I just screwed it into drywall. The mounting bracket ensures that it is attached securely to the wall and gives you a secure base to screw the recepticle into. Highly recommend this product. If my review was helpful, please let Amazon know by clicking helpful . Thanks.5 ( ) I;ve ran cables for years. Fish tape, cables pullers, insulation is our enemy!!!! But these plates have a lrge enough opening for ANYTHING. I pulled the following through one:2 HDMI1 XBOX1 Surge Strip power cord1 Coax (tape it completely to your fish tape before pulling throughand I still have room for more! Please note!!!! These do NOT come with the wall mouting brackets to screw them down too. The opening on these is VERY large and is not friendly to being screwed down directly to the sheetrock, so do yourself a favor and purchase the wall brackets.http://www.amazon.com/Arlington-LV2-1CS-Voltage-Mounting-Bracket/dp/B000GAQB0W/ref=pd_bxgy_e_img_y 5
