Customer Reviews

Getting an old mid-2007 iMac back as a useful tool Decided to see what improvement, for a pretty limited cost, could be made to my mid 2007 20" iMac running iOS 10.8.5.Getting the tiny screw out of the cover plate was aggravating, but accomplished after a bit of effort. Removing the old RAM and installing the new Crucial 4GB RAM modules took about 30 seconds, then another short time to re-install the cover. Reconnected the power and started up without the slightest issue. Previously, I had purged every non-iCloud app and the corresponding data: no music, no photos, no pages, no numbers etc. I will rely 100% on iCloud for all I need using this old computer. Thanks to Crucial Technology the machine is running better than it ever did and is a delight to use again. By the way, I had tried updating past MacOS 10.8.5 before upping the RAM to 4GB, but hastily returned as it just does not work. 5Best Bang for the Buck Performance Increase I bought this RAM kit for an older 2007 iMac that was running on 1GB at the time. Even though the computer is dated, it is perfectly acceptable for most office processing tasks and internet browsing. Heck, I'm a grad student and found that even for most of my work that it would running my programs reasonably fast. Just goes to show you that unless you're gaming, most people's computing demands are far exceeded by todays computer capabilities.Where I did notice slower performance was for my photo editing needs as I am a photographer. Running some of the more complex image filters could take a while to render. For the $50 this cost, the performance gains were well worth the money spent. If you can read, you can pretty much upgrade RAM yourself on an iMac at a fraction of what it would cost to pay for the custom configuration (unless it's a soldered in board like their new laptops). Do yourself a favour and max out the RAM on your system - you'll notice a significant performance increase dollar for dollar than spending the money on a new processor or computer system. 5True Crucial RAM I ordered this set to use in a vostro 1500 dell laptop. It worked perfectly and I went from 2gb to 4gb. I checked the ram once installed and everything seemed to be running smoothly. I admit I was worried when I first received the kit, as the sticks came in a black tray with a clear cover over them. This and the fact that each stick had different country of origins labeled on them. One from Indonesia. The other from Singapore. However, upon installing, the sticks ran perfectly, and I was able to verify the original manufacture was Micron and that these are indeed Crucial RAM sticks. 5Works flawlessly WOW! If you are considering an upgrade in your RAM, this is some good stuff. Crucial has always been a trusted name for me, so I went with it. I installed this RAM to replace 2GB of ram (some Krankonic Brand type) in my HP DV6000 Laptop (bought in 2007) and it s still keeping up! I m running Vista 32bit basic home edition. Recommend anyone who is unsure of updating RAM that is running a 32 bit OS, to first verify that your system will support it. Check with your laptop's manufacturer first, and then if your gear will support it, get it!!! Remember to update your BIOS before installation of the new RAM. I didn t just to see if it wasn t necessary, and my PC when straight to the blue screen of death. Powered down the unit, reinstalled old RAM, updated BIOS at the HP web site, powered down, installed the Crucial 4GB RAM, powered up, and everything is straight. I cannot believe that I waited so long to update my RAM. Makes a huge difference BTW! It s like having a brand new PC!!! Now I just need to get Windows 7 and a SSD. I am still using Duo Core Processors 2.0 GHz, Nvidia GeForce Go 7400, and now 4GB RAM FYI. 5Crucial 4GB PC2-5300 DRAM in a Macmini1,1 I bought this RAM for my old Mac Mini (Macmini1,1) because when I read Macsales.com (other world computing) website, it says that this particular model can accept 4GB. Wrong. Be careful to understand the distinction between "Intel Core Duo" versus "Intel Core 2 Duo," which I missed! With hindsight, that was my mistake (and MY mistake alone), because doing just a little more research would have shown that this model's RAM tops out at 2GB, not 4GB. There is no boot chime with this RAM installed, meaning the machine is having trouble with the memory. Realizing my mistake, I sought out a refund from the vendor, Dataram. Within 4 hours, they accepted the return, minus a 15% restocking fee, which considering that it was my stupid fault, I thought was very fair and generous of them. The lesson learned is obvious: do some research before buying memory for your particular computer. Mac users: consult everymac.com before buying!Because I didn't have the chance to actually test the memory, I can't tell you if it was good or bad. Given the number of positive reviews you see for this particular product, chances are almost 100% that it was good. However, I felt that I could not give it 5 stars because I cannot honestly testify to that. I certainly cannot give it one star because of MY dumb mistake ... no one's 4GB of RAM is going to work in my Mac Mini! I chose to give it 4 stars due mainly to Dataram's stellar customer service, and would gladly bump it up to 5 stars if I had some way to confirm its functionality. 4Easy to install and spees This product couldn't have been more easy to install into my Mac. This was also used for a macbook 2008. The computer has thus been discontinued and got a great deal on this ram. Using Apple's setup to install the cards was a breeze. Also, if you need help, Youtube is a great resource to figure out how to use the ram. You may need to find some super small screwdrivers to get into the computer and that's probably the hardest part of putting this ram into the laptop. The ram really made a difference in how much quicker my computer operated at and has definitely extended my macbook for another 2-3 years. 5Can't go wrong with Crucial! I love crucial memory! I've upgraded 3 laptops now, all using this specific brand. I don't compromise with this brand vs. other because in my experience, paying a little bit more for something more reliable, is definitely worth the money. I used this for my 2007 White Macbook. What an amazing difference it has made. Immediately started up, programs run super fast. I'm a professional photographer so I need the memory for Adobe programs including Lightroom as well as some other programs including Nik Efex. Coming from 1GB of memory to 4GB lets me use all of these at once with no lag. NO LAG!!!!I feel extremely confident that this will last for a while, and it just upped the resale value of my laptop a little bit in case I want to sell it (hey, it may be from 2007 but works like I bought it yesterday). Plus, my powerbook G4 laptop JUST died after 10 years of use. say what you want, Apple laptops are awesome.anyway. It's easy to install and if you have problems, you should just check out your laptop company's website or google it. It's insanely easy. and if you feel this memory might not be the right one, check out crucial's website where you can either run a diagnostics to determine the kind, or just choose your computer brand etc. from a drop down menu. Doesn't take a computer genius expert to do it and this saves you SO much money by doing it yourself.Since i struggled with finding someone with a review that used this with my specific laptop, i'll leave my specs in case someone else needs it.2007 Macbook (White) A1181Intel Core 2 Duooriginally 1GB now 4GB memory!Software version 10.6.8thats pretty much all you need to know.Don't hesitate, buy Crucial memory! 5The Ram along with a new dual core processor have my old laptop running like a new one No complaints here. I bought this to upgrade the Ram in my Dell 1505 Laptop. The Ram along with a new dual core processor have my old laptop running like a new one, and I couldn't be more pleased.Just for anyone with the same computer, I am running dual boot Windows XP and 64 bit Linux Mint 17.2. Both only recognize 3.2 gigs of Ram. I was aware of this before I made the purchase. Nothing wrong with the ram, but the limitations of my computer. 5Works great for my older Dell. Simple to change. I used these to upgrade my Dell Inspiron 6400 to "4MB" (2 x 2MB). Well, due to limitations of the system's design, that particular older model of Dell computer can only use about 3.3 MB of the 4 MB (as I've read on other websites from other 6400 owners), but it's still a huge improvement over what I had. It's like having a new computer. The memory came without instructions, but really none were needed. With the power off, I opened the memory cover of the Dell, unsnapped the old memory out, snapped the new memory in, and closed the cover. When powering on, the Dell did come up with a BIOS message screen indicating that the memory had been changed (and the screen appeared to be frozen). However, the computer was just silently checking the memory out for the first time (even though it didn't say what it was doing). Anyway, after about two or three minutes, it came on with Windows 7 -- loading much faster than it had been. It's been working perfectly (and speedily) since. (It does not take two or three minutes to check the memory each time -- it only did that the first time after the memory had been changed). 5My fan won't stop after install ... 2007 Mac Mini I have a 2007 Mac Mini Core Duo 2GHz for reference. After installing this memory my fan kicked on and never turned off. The memory appears to be working, but as another reviewer stated they must be missing a temperature sensor that affects fan function. This small issue turns my normally quiet mini into a train coming down the tracks. I would definitely suggest researching this memory for your specific machine before you click the purchase button. It may save you the headache of dis-assembly, assembly, dis-assembly, assembly, return, purchase different memory and then dis-assembly, assembly again scenario I now face. 1
