Customer Reviews

More speed! I recommend it. I wish I had bought this sooner. I was running my mid 2009 Mac Book Pro on just the 2 gigs of ram it came with and it was starting to become a major source of stress. My Mac Book Pro holds a maximum of just 8 gigs of ram so I had planned on buying two of these 4 gig sticks but decided to just get one for now and try it out first. I had two, one gig sticks installed so I popped one out and and put the new four gig in its place, bringing me to a total of 5 gigs. Removal and installation is super easy, I think just about anyone can do it so save some money and do it yourself. There's plenty of guides on the Internet that will walk you through it, ifixit.com being the best. The 5 gig increase has worked wonders for me, so as soon as I order my second stick I'll be really zippin. 8 gigs max sounds silly considering the amounts of stock ram shipped with computers today but if 5 gigs has already worked great then the maximum of 8 that I can install will be fine and I even consider myself to be a "power user" 5Perfectly Compatible, Improvement immediately! I have a 15" Macbook Pro mid-2010 and it was finally starting to slow down right after my upgrade to High Sierra. I took a look at the activity monitor and it was using 3.5gb of the 4gb available of memory - time to upgrade! I chose Corsair after reading satisfied reviews. I followed a youtube video to install the new memory - easy to do! The power up was slower than usual which made me nervous, but by the time it loaded my desktop I immediately noticed opening programs went smoother. Running Chrome is my idea of my computer at baseline as I'm always using chrome - right now with Chrome open, it consumes 3.9gb of memory. No wonder it was giving me the beach-ball of death simply opening a new tab or opening a video on Reddit. Not anymore with my 8gb of space! So glad I thought of upgrading memory before investing in a new $2,000 mac. This will definitely extend the life of my laptop - although I'm already blown away at it's performance at this age!Highly recommend this brand of memory, as it's an affordable way to make a big difference in an older machine. 5Works. RAM works as described. There's not much else to really say about it.However, I'm posting the rest of this review to alert people attempting to install RAM into a MacBook Pro 15'' Mid-2010 model. It appears as though if you seat the RAM and push just a tiny bit too much, the RAM will become stuck between the connector and the metal bar the separates the motherboard from the battery. I tried repeatedly to push the RAM back up, so I could reseat it properly, but it wouldn't budge (as moving the plastic parts that keep the RAM in place did nothing. I then feared that I would bend the RAM too much and possible break it). What I ended up having to do was remove the motherboard just enough so I could free the RAM (I followed the guide for replacing the motherboard on iFixIt). If you search around the internet, there are others that experienced this problem with this model of MacBook; some tried taking it to the Apple store, sometimes with success (but, due to the age of the MacBook, your mileage will vary, as Apple will no longer repair it officially. For instance, the Apple store near me attempted to move the RAM, but failed, so I ended up doing it myself). If your good with taking stuff apart, fixing this issue is merely time-consuming and not that hard. Else, if it happens to you and you aren't good with tiny computer parts, I would recommend taking it to a computer repair shop that is known for Mac repair.Again, the RAM works fine, it's just a design fault in the MacBook that made the install for me all the more difficult. 5Easy Peasy!!! Don t Believe Apple For aMacBook as old as mine, The Apple Store People told me that my Mac is to old and they will even not attempt to look or touch it. They recommended me to just recycle it and purchase a new MacBook. Well, I was not willing on spending another (2)Grand on another MacBook. They wouldn t even sell me their memory for this particular Mac. Apple are money whores! I basically new that the problem with my MacBook was the memory. All the signs where there. Very slow to open apps, couldn t have multiple apps open at once, and while on Safari, it took forever to load a web page. So I did the best thing to go on Amazon with my slow Mac, HaHa, and ordered this ram. The best thing I ever did. Very easy to replace from my MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2009). It took approx 5mins to do and my Mac recognized the ram instantly! Now my Mac is running exactly like when I 1st purchased it. Even while running Yosemite OS!So if you have the same problem that I had, Don t listen to Apple!!! All they want is to keep taking your money. Such a simple fix, and if you don t know how to do yourself, YouTube has a tutorial video on how to do. Anyone can do this, that s how simple it is. Hope this review helps you. 4Easy to install and works as if it came with the computer I have a 6 year old MacBook Pro with 2 GB ram. At the time, it was great, but over time, well, as you start to watch more videos online and keep multiple Safari tabs open, performance slows down a lot and even freezes. This was the solution. I ordered 8 GB and waited eagerly for the arrival. I also ordered a new battery because that was also not performing anymore. They arrived, and surgery began! The battery came with the tiny screwdrivers, so that was handy for installation of both. I've done a lot with software and programming in the past, but not hardware. This was so easy. Be careful with the ram to not touch the gold part and avoid static, but other than that, this is child's play. Took all of 15 minutes because I was being really careful. Then replaced the screws on the back, flipped it over, and punched the start button. I waited with some fear that it wouldn't come back on, but it did, and oh, is it like new (but better) now! It's faster, can handle multi-tasking, and videos load much faster. I can also keep safari and adobe open at the same time without affecting performance. Great product, fast shipping from Amazon! I pulled up some videos on how to do this online, which I would recommend because then you know you're doing it right. 5Ram is Ram! I've read as others in these reviews have mentioned, Ram is Ram. I have a "Mid 2009" MacBook Pro 13" that came with 2gb of ram from Apple. It was running deathly slow but being the cheap person that I am I decided I would try to make this laptop last a bit longer.Install was very easy, I actually forgot to turn my laptop off (I'm also an idiot) and pulled the back cover off with a simple Phillips screwdriver. Popped the old ram out. Put the new ram in which was very easy, no screws or anything just line it up and pop it back in. Put the aluminum cover back on the bottom of the laptop and checked the system, it shows 8gb of ram and runs so much faster and better. Boot time was round 1:20 minutes. Now I'd say its closer to 35 seconds. Now I can run Autodesk Fusion 360 on my 9 year old laptop and not have to wait 20 seconds for 2d lines to load. Well worth the money, I'd buy again in a heartbeat. 5The upgrade is easy and the resuts are amazing! My Mid-2010 MacBook Pro is now exceptionally fast.Doubling the RAM provides instant response, no more waiting. By the way the instructions are supplied on your MacBook Pro, just go to the Apple icon at the upper-left of your screen, choose "About This Mac" then "Memory" which will show what is presently installed and on that page look for "Memory Upgrade Instructions" and click those words to see the very easy to follow and fully illustrated instructions. The only tool you will need is a size #1 Phillips screwdriver available as part of a MacBook tool kit available for around ten dollars from several Amazon vendors. Good tools that fit properly are a wise investment. This is an easy job that is personally satisfying and makes a really great difference in performance. ;) 5This was a computer saver!! My iMac (late 2009 model) was SLOW and we were trying to budget $1700 for a new model until someone recommended that we just upgrade the memory. Come to find out my Mac only had 4GB ram, and 2 slots open so I purchased these bad boys and I can't believe the difference they made, my Mac seems like it is brand new, no joke!! My kids keep asking me today if I bought a new computer. Seriously this was a life saver. 5A quick and easy upgrade! I purchased this 8GB kit to upgrade the 4GB of RAM that came with my mid-2010 model MacBook Pro. I settled on the Corsair after reading all sorts of reviews online regarding brands. Basically, "RAM is RAM" was the overwhelming sentiment I got from all the research. That in mind, the price was great (cheapest here on Amazon), it was "Mac tested," and I'm extremely happy with my decision.Using the detailed instructions provided on Apple's website for upgrading RAM, I was able to install and start using my computer again in less than 10 minutes. Basically, removed the bottom, popped out the old RAM, plugged in the new RAM, fired up the computer, and voil . I should point out that, while I have upgraded RAM on previous PC once before, I'm definitely not a pro.The process was painless, and the difference was immediately noticeable. Prior to the upgrade, having multiple programs open (Mail + Power Point + Safari +....) became increasingly sluggish and difficult. After the upgrade, I'm reminded of that fresh shiny new machine I unpacked back in 2010. Having used it over a week now, I can report that I've had no problems or unexpected glitches. If I do, I'll be sure to come back and report it. I'm extremely happy with the upgrade and recommend upgrading with this kit without reservation.Pros: Cheap way to make your computer feel like new again.Cons: None come to mind. This kit is good if Apple recommends the following:2 memory slotsMaximum memory: 8 GB or moreSpecifications: Double Data Rate Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module (DDR3) format67.6mm x 30mm (1.18 inch)2 GB or 4 GB204-pinPC3-12800 DDR3 1600 MHz type RAMThey also recommend that you fill both memory slots, and install equal sized memory modules in each slot. This kit does the job. 5Great Buy I recently damaged one of my RAM chips while replacing the battery in my mid/late 2009 MacBook Pro (model A1286). Since the laptop shipped with 4 GB of memory (2 GB x 2), taking out the damaged chip dropped me to 2 GB which is unsatisfactory. I decided to go ahead and upgrade while I was at it since it's also better for RAM to work in duplicate pairs, so I purchased the Corsair memory chips as listed. I received the memory yesterday and finally took some time to install them this morning. The packaging was good as they were sent with other items in a cardboard box with adequate packing. The memory installed easily and quickly, the laptop booted up with no problems. As shown in the screenshots, the laptop recognizes all 8 GB of the memory and the laptop is running great. Even though the packaging claims that the memory is compatible with "MacBook/MacBook Pro Mid-2010, Early-2011, Late-2011" it appears to be compatible with my laptop, which was certainly bought in 2009.I will make a reminder in my calendar to return in 3 months then 1 year to comment on continuing quality and longevity of the memory. 5
