    Great wrench! I really researched this before I bought it. I have only ever had mid-grade adjustable wrenches like craftsman or husky. I wanted a nicer one that could possibly last a lifetime. However, the American made ones are unjustifiably expensive for anyone who isn't a full-time mechanic.These are made in Europe by one of the oldest and most respected makers of wrenches, then re-branded for sale in the US. If you search for the European name, you will see that they are normally sold for at least twice this price. I may be wrong, but I believe that they also make adjustable wrenches for snap-on and mac.The fit, finish, and machining are superb. The black coating is smooth, and the mechanism is tight without any slop. I haven't owned it long enough to comment on its longevity, but I have high expectations. This is a great wrench! 5Everyone should have at least one adjustable wrench! Channellock adjustable wrenches are made in Spain, and they are very high quality. It's nearly impossible to find an adjustable wrench made in USA these days (even Snap-On's are also made in Spain). I've always thought the Channellocks resemble the Snap-On's, and I've heard that they are actually both made by Irega. I can't verify that, but either way, buy the Channellocks with confidence. 5High dollar wrench performs worse than Harbor Freight cheapy Edit:2 days later they delivered a new wrench in fine working order and UPS picked up the old one. Someone pointed out new rustable metal items often leave the factory with an oil coating to protect from rust. Also the new came in a ziplock bag, probably to encase the oily. DOHOriginal:The wrench has an obvious manufactured defect in that the adjusting wheel spins freely the first 1/2" to vary the width, then suddenly and repeatedly requires a great deal of force and much thumb friction to continue turning. Is there no quality control here? A damn $30 wrench works worse than a $1.50 harbor freight wannabe. It was also sticky with thick oil as though a previous buyer had tried to make it work, also wrapped in a zip lock baggie? Who the hell puts a wrench in a zip lock bag? I tried additional oil, no help. This is strange and f'ed up. 3One year update. (this is the original review - see updated below) After getting this tiny thing, and seeing the build quality - I'll be upgrading my other adjustable wrenches to this same brand in the near future. Very impressed with it, right down to the tiny wave-washer that keeps the knurled adjustment knob from moving around while being used.*** I've had this for a year now, I've gotten a couple more - and while I still love this little driver - I have to say I wish the metal was harder. All of them, even the gently used ones, have gotten chewed up at the edges / mushroomed. They're still usable, but no longer as precise, which on a tiny wrench like this, precision is critical. I'm dropping my rating from 5 to 3 stars, because compared to a similarly sized adjustable wrench I have - which has seen considerably more use, which was purchased used, and it was last manufactured over 30 years ago - it still has a sharp edge - unlike the Channellock after just one year.Would I get another 804N? Made by Irega, a well regarded manufacturer of adjustable wrenches in Spain. Seems to be less expensive to purchase the Channellock versus the corresponding Irega model. My rating: 5 stars.#3: Klein 507-8: 5/5 smoothness, 4/5 jaw wobble, short jaws, lightest weight. Interesting history, evidently Klein wrenches started off as a licensed version of a premium Japanese brand of adjustable wrenches. My rating: 5 stars.#4: JH Williams AP-8A: 4/5 smoothness, 2/5 jaw wobble, body casting not smooth. My rating: 2 stars.#5: Bahco 8071-R-US: 4/5 smoothness, 3/5 jaw wobble. As I understand it, if you purchase a Snap On adjustable wrench, it's a rebadged Bahco. Evidently these used to be made in a factory in Sweden and I've seen it said that there was a drop in quality when production was moved to the Spain factory. My rating: 4 stars.#6: Ridgid 758: 4/5 smoothness, 3/5 jaw wobble. My rating: 4 stars.#7: Craftsman 8" (approx 10 years old): 2/5 smoothness, 2/5 jaw wobble. My rating: 2 stars.#8: Tekton 2310: 4/5 smoothness, 3/5 jaw wobble. My rating 3 stars.#9: JH Williams 13408: 4/5 smoothness, 2/5 jaw wobble. My rating 2 stars.#10: Titan 208: 2/5 smoothness, 1/5 jaw wobble. My rating 1 star.Verdict:The worst wrench in my opinion was #10, the Titan branded wrench. I measured the jaw sloppiness to be 50% more than any other wrench in my comparison. My other least favorites were the Urrea and both of the JH Williams. My favourites were the Channellock and the Klein closely followed by the Bahco. I bought the black phosphate version of the Bahco due to the cost of the chrome version being too high. The Channellock are made by the well regarded Irega company in Spain. Based on the WF stamped on the wrenches, I believe three of the USA wrenches are made by Western Forge (#4, #6, #7). Out of the three Western Forge wrenches, I think the Ridgid is the nicest. The older Craftsman is less smooth than I remember, probably since it's not a new wrench. Ultimately I think I would be happy with the Channellock, Klein, Bahco and Ridgid in that order.Final Thoughts:I prefer a smoothly operating tool. If the Klein had longer jaws and was less expensive it would likely have been my choice (and still would be perhaps if weight was a big priority like for a portable tool bag). However given all the factors, including value for money, the Channellock (Irega) is the one I kept. I also suggest the Knipex pliers wrenches (Knipex 8603180 7-Inch Pliers Wrench) as a premium (and expensive) alternative to adjustable wrenches. 5Awesome Quality Channellock is the best tool maker for average working folks. Best wrench in my collection. Not made in USA but in the EU at a factory in Zaldabar Spain that specializes in adjustable wrenches. Hence, this product line was not outsourced to exploit cheap labor. Rather, to provide a high quality wrench. The price is comparable to Craftsman wrenches made by Western Forge in Colorado. But this wrench is superior to Craftsman. And million times the quality of garbage tools from China. Large but well balanced, not too heavy for use despite its size, durable and dependable. The worm screw is smooth and steady. Not much play in operation which indicates very good quality. Unlike Channellock made in USA products this wrench needs a small shot of oil on the worm screw. Mine was black phosphate as described above. Looking forward to upgrading my Craftsman wrenches to Channellock this year. 5Have many different 4" adjustable wrenches, but this Channellock 804 is my favorite of them all. I have a number of different 4" adjustable wrenches and non of them are as well made as the Channellock 804.Many of the other brands of 4" adjustable wrenches don't have the tapered jaws like the Channellock 804 so they can seem to big and bulky when trying to use them on small nuts. The tapered jaws are perfect not only for smaller nuts, but also nuts up to 9/16".As many of the other reviewers have stated the Channellock 804 is very well made. Feels good in your hand and is so small it can get lost in your pockets. I have purchased both the Channellock 804 and 804N (black phosphate). All the photos I seen of the Channellocks 804's online seem to be of a adjustable wrench larger then 4" because the scale on the side of the wrenches went larger then 9/16". Anyway I'm adding a photo of my own Channellock 804 and 804N (black phosphate) in addition to my review so everyone can see what the two really look like. Hope you find the additional photo helpful. 53 4-inch wrenches I bought 3 different 4-inch (nominal) adjustable wrenches for comparison: The Klein D506-4, the Channellock 804 and the Bahco 8069 RC US. I'll review them together. An older review, by another customer, of 8" wrenches may be of interest https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R1VXP5HDPQ5FER .All three wrenches are made in Spain, and all are longer than 4" (4.3 for the Bahco, 4.5 for the Channellock and Klein.) And despite various information on their packages and on the Amazon listings, they all open to 9/16" (14mm.) They all have inch and metric scales on the jaws, but only the Channellock has a mark at 9/16; none have a mark at 14mm.The Channellock and the Klein are clearly related, having the same jaw, screw and pin in the familiar US style. The Channellock is stamped with the brand, but the raised Klein name is in the forging. The Klein also has a round hanging hole instead of the Spanish-style square hole.The Bahco (nee Sandvic, now part of Snap-on's Williams division) is quite different, having the traditional Swedish buttressed jaws that may be stronger but are a little bulky. Note that this "US" version has the familiar RH thread; LH is the norm in Sweden.All three have excellent quality, with little play in their slides and screws, good machining and parallelness. The Klein is only available with a vinyl grip and the Bahco, while beautiful, is stronger than I need a 4" wrench to be, so the Channellock gets my nod. Barely. 5It didn't break, but I was disappointed. I must say, I was disappointed with this wrench. I got the 10 inch size, and had to use it while trying to remove an outer tie rod on my SUV. The adjustment gear slipped like crazy, forcing me to tighten it after each turn of the wrench. Also, as you can see from my photo, the edges of the jaws rolled quite a bit. Not that the rolling really matters, but that was just from removing a single nut. On the positive side, I was able to complete the task, and the handle was pretty comfortable. 3Best biggest little tool I have a number of different 4" adjustable wrenches and non of them are as well made as the Channellock 804.Many of the other brands of 4" adjustable wrenches don't have the tapered jaws like the Channellock 804 so they can seem to big and bulky when trying to use them on small nuts.
