Customer Reviews

It really sticksMy husband inadvertently, tore the edge of the frame on our swing set. It was cut and scratched right where it rests on the metal frame. I stitched it by hand then added this tape. It stuck during the over 100 degree heat. Now that we are in Southern California style winter with over 6 inches of rain falling on it, it is still stuck to the canvas frame. I am impressed.5DO NOT BUY IT! After 1.5 months in the sun it ROTTED out. Not made for outside awnings as advertized. DO NOT BUY THIS JUNK! 1Not what I expected from CamcoThe tape did not stick to the vinyl awning material in a manner that would hold it against rain, wind, etc. I expected more, since it had what was advertised as an "aggressive" adhesive. I thought, on first installation, that the problem was because I hadn't cleaned the surface well enough, but I did so again with the recommended rubbing alcohol - twice- leaving drying time between cleanings and before the tape installation. It was better, but the edges appeared to want to come up. I finally cut a piece of tape much larger than I had intended to use and "glued" the edges down with Dicor sealant. After drying, I used Dicor around the edges of the tape patch. It appears to be holding now.2What I needed.....What happens when a 2 year old $10,000 motorized retractable awning develops a tear on the edge and the manufacturer won't respond? You either replace the entire panel at great expense or you look for alternatives. I chose the Camco Awning Repair Tape. Application was a little tricky since our awning is motorized, therefore it's spring loaded and requires a careful technique to create slack in the awning to apply the tape. Since the tear was at one of the side edges, I applied the tape to both sides of the awning after cleaning the surface with alcohol. I then applied the same amount of tape on the opposite side so the awning would retract and wind without walking. Since the awning is under tension when out, I was concerned about the tape not holding. For the limited amount of time, it has been opened and closed since the repair, that hasn't been an issue. It's winter now, so we probably won't be using the awning until next spring but unless there's a surprise waiting for me, I fully expect the repair to hold. Recommended.4After being warned from other posts reading about the tape failing I did my best of cleaning then putting the tape on top and ..I scratched my awning the very 1st time I took my new RV on a trip. Sh#t!! Caught a road sign on a sharp turn. I ordered 2 rolls of this (1 for top side and 1 for bottom side ). I cleaned the awning, let it dry then applied this tape. The cut/scratch on the awning was intermittent about 10' long where you could see lite along portions of the scratch. After being warned from other posts reading about the tape failing I did my best of cleaning then putting the tape on top and on bottom which double reinforces the tape plus the tape touched the other tape (through scratch) insuring good bonding - right? Not at all. The adhesive on this tape is not good as others have stated. It only lasted about 2 months (5 weekend trips). 1st the tape on the bottom fell off when we opened the awning then the top came off as we were going down the road. I had the rv in for a couple items at my local RV store and I spoke with their senior mechanic what he would suggest and he said use black gator duct tape. His thought this product should be removed from the market.1Its okFor the price and quantity, this tape is not worth it. Gorilla tape makes the same tape for repairs and it comes with more tape for about the same price. We have learned that all the stuff on the market that is meant for camping, you can find the same stuff for cheaper if you look around.3Worked Very WellI'm not sure what makes this tape overly "special" for use on RV Awnings. It is nice and thick and applied easily, although you either have to pre-cut your desired lengths or climb up on your 8ft step ladder with a razor knife cut it carefully. It came clear, but even after a one week trip it is now a nice UV stained yellow color which really clashes with my white awning. Its on the topside where no one can see it but me, but either a white tape, or UV resistant clear would have been nicer.4Hoping it works for the long haul or at least for a month or so at a time between applicationsThere's a lot of material here and so far it's stuck on well. We have three small pin holes in our fabric RV awning near the roller tube. This stuff isn't invisible but it is on the top of the awning on the South Side so time will tell how long it lasts between re-applications. Will update when this hapens4As advertised. The tape seems to be as advertised. I used it to repair a small tear in the awning. The tape is heavy duty, clear, and very sticky. Time will tell how it holds up, but so far, seems like a great product to prolong the life of your awning. 5This does not work at all on BOATS and canvas tops. Terrible product.I used this on the canvas on top of my boat that had rips...IT DOES NOT WORK. After a mere 30 days it peeled right off. It will not hold up to wind and weather at all. I placed the tape underneath and on top and it failed in both places. They are falsely advertising it's capabilities when they say it works on boats, including SAILS! No Way... Look fo a different manufacturer.1DOES NOT STICK!!! Complete and TOTAL waste of money!! Post-it notes have more adhesive!! I applied this tape on a warm and sunny day (75-80 degrees) after cleaning the awning with bleach and then 99% rubbing alcohol (per instructions) and the next day the tape was literally FALLING OFF the awning. This happened in both of the two packages I used. Does tape have an expiration date??? Take my advice... buy something else 1After a few short weeks, tape is coming up ...After a few short weeks, tape is coming up off the fabric. I scrubbed fabric, dried it, then cleaned with alcohol, dried it, then placed tape.3worked great for me.works fine. A few notes: 1. prep is super important. The directions say to use alcohol for prep. This is insufficient. USE MINERAL SPIRITS!! I used copious amounts of mineral spirits to thoroughly clean the area. 2. If the awning has UV damage (which most do) don't try to peel it off after you've applied it. It will peel off the top layer of vinyl. 3. It's not white as the description says, it's clear.5
