Durable Cable With Good Shielding Unlike the cheaper, plastic coated cables I've tried, this cable has a stiff, reinforced outer covering. This makes the cable stiffer than the others, but it is less likely to flex too much and suffer internal wiring breakage. I bought this cable for use with a stand-alone DAC for audio through USB-C. Again, the adapters with the DAC included were made with the cheap plastic casing, which meant the cable portion would flex too much and internal wiring would break, leaving one sound channel dead or intermittent. One other benefit of the stiffer outer casing of this cable is that it acts as a shield, resulting in less interference between nearby charging adapters and the sound signal inside this cable.If this cable were ever to fail, I would only have to replace the cable instead of also having to buy a new DAC or adapter, which saves me money in that event. 5Didn't work for my application I needed to connect an external DAC to my 2018 Mac mini and I've used up the USB 3 inputs so decided to route the signal through one of the Thunderbolt ports. The Mac recognized the DAC the first time I used the cable then the next day it can't see the DAC unless I use the USB 3 ports. Thus cable is cheap enough I'll just find other uses for it.The construction looks good and it's quite flexible which I really like. But unfortunately it didn't work for my application. 3Cable works as expected! I m using this cable for fast charging with an Anker USB-C Wall charger, and an Anker wireless charging pad, and it works great! 5Great quality so far. Nice quality wrapping, like Kevlar. I'm using it with a MacBook, specifically to power a Dual Shock 4 controller to use with the Sony Playstation remote play app. To use remote play, you have to connect the dual shock controller via a USB cable (no bluetooth support for remote play).It works great which is good because the Sony dual shock controllers are picky about microUSB cables.I also use this cable, combined with Apple's tiny Lightning to MicroUSB adapter, to charge IOS devices from my MacBook power brick (which is USB-C). The MacBook power brick is powerful (29W), and can charge an ipad or iphone quickly when used this way. In addition to fast charging, I only need to carry one power brick with me (the MacBook one), this cable and the original MacBook charging cable, and I can charge my MacBook or any IOS device (not at the same time though because there is only one USB-C port on the charger). 5Poor quality, cable arrived with type-c connector crimped and unusable Unfortunately poor quality. I finally took this out of the bag a couple months after I purchased it and found the type-c connector crimped and deformed so it no longer plugs in. Check yours immediately after you receive it![edit] Thanks very much to Cable Matters for supplying me with a replacement. The replacement works great, and I can now take one small charger with me to charge my phone, laptop, and headphones for the long flights. 5Another quality cable from Cable Matters This is the second Cable Matters cable that I ve purchased and I continue to be impressed at the quality to cost ratio of these cables.The connectors are high quality and feature a nice matte plastic that is a bit rubberized or at least on the softer side. The connectors continue looking nice after long periods of time and do not become easily scratched up or cheap looking. The nylon braiding looks great and has just the right amount of give to it; even if it s been coiled up in a bag for a while it begins to relax very shortly after it s uncoiled. The strain relief areas of the connectors seem like they re built quite well and I haven t had any issues yet with the cable becoming crimped or damaged near the connector. I ve been using this one in particular pretty heavily since I use it to connect a mechanical keyboard to my laptop both at work and at home; the cable gets wrapped up and unwrapped at least twice a day and the area of the cable near the micro USB connector is actually bent at 90 degrees in some circumstances when I m using it.I would highly recommend purchasing these cables to anyone that doesn t want to spend a lot of money on a cable but wants quality and longevity. 5Dangerous / faulty micro USB connector Dangerous micro USB connector sparked and melted.The first time this way used, charging a phone, the micro USB connector overheated and started to smoke. It was in a motorhome, fortunately a friend was sleeping and the smoke awoke him and stopped it before a full fire broke out. Unplugging it from the phone it sparked suggesting it had a short circuit.As well as ruining the cable on first use, this also damaged the phone charging connector beyond repair which is several hundred dollars to replace.Overall, extremely unsatisfied with this product. 1Great way to solve a problem with sibling Rivalry I had a problem of my sons cables and charger getting stolen. So How did I fix that? I GOT THIS with the charger that only works with this cable."some older siblings" tends to steal his stuff, so I came up with a way so that it would be useless to them. For some reason this particular AMP/DAC tends to chew through USB-C to Micro USB cables like crazy. My current cable stopped working recently and I needed something new. I've bought cables from Cable Matters before and have always had good luck with them. This cable, so far, has been no exception. It's well-built, features gold-plated connectors, a braided jacket, EMI/RFI shielding, and thick, reinforced cable collars. The cable is holding up well so far. Will update in three months. 5Great 'Transition' Cables to Tide Older Devices over the USB-C Adoption Wave There aren't many reputable brands out there that manufacture USB-C to MircoUSB cables out there today but I'm glad that CableMatters is one of them . With the USB-C Interface slowly becoming mainstream which is expected make all other connectors (USB-A, USB-B etc) obsolete very soon - Many of you will find yourselves , Just like I found myself, stuck with as many as three different types of cables/charger types in your homes during this 'transition' period . We have a newer Macbook with USB-C connector , a Samsung Galaxy S6 & S6 edge with older Mirco USB connectors and these cables were just what the doctor ordered so I purchased two of them for our household.Performance-------------------Not all cables are created equal , in-fact a cheap or poorly manufactured cable can severely limit the amount of current it can carry and charge your devices as slower speeds no matter how powerful your charger is.Thus, I tested these cables for their quick charge performance using a USB-C Quick charger and compared its performance to the OEM Samsung Charger using a top of the line Anker Powerline 20AWG cable, A Samsung OEM Cable and measured if the CableMatters cables performed as good as them. The power readings were taken using a wall socket power monitor (see pics)CableMatters Cable Supplied Power = 14.8 Watts i.e ( 1.65 A at 9 Volts)Anker PowerLine Cable Supplied Power = 14.2 Watts i.e (1.57 A at 9 Volts)Samsung OEM Cable Supplied Power = 14.8 Watts i.e (1.65A at 9 Volts)As you can see that the CableMatters cable performs as good , if not better than a top of the line premium 20AWG or OEM CablesThe Good----------------- Nylon braided construction gives the cable good resistance to wear and tear due to bends- Performs as good as the one of the top of the line 20AWG & OEM Mirco USB cables- Small connectors means it should be able fit through most cases even the ones with small openings- Both USB-C and Mirco USB-B connectors fit securely- Lifetime warranty means peace of mind should they fail at any timeNot So Good--------------------- None at this price point really, But if I were to nit pick the smallest of the details then - As the nylon braiding adds rigidity, they arent very flexible. This is expected howeverOverall I am very happy with my purchase and can definitely recommend these cables to you If you have multiple devices in your home with USB-C and Micro USB connectors and dont want to use or carry around 2 separate chargers for them for travel etc. They are a perfect fit as a transition cable as USB-C becomes mainstream 5
