Don't get the cheap ones, this one works Usually always works - we have 20+ of these as a mac shop, and for whatever reason these often work better than HDMI/DVI connections, Apple/Mac is the bad guy I think, never helpful and doesnt care. The only reason it is not 5 stars is that these unit do sometimes break, not sure if it is the Thunderbolt plug that goes crap or the electronics - I have 3 flaky/bad ones on my desk (and probably more than 20 in daily use) - somewhat expected for users who plug and unplug several times a day I guess. CM has offered to take them on warranty, the issue for me is the shipping almost outweighs the cost of the item - and also I have no way to match up receipts with a unit 4A Great Solution to an Intentionally Created Problem It does exactly what it says it will do. It allows you to connect your device that decided they didn't need a VGA port for every single solitary projector in every single school, church, or convention center. Why would we want the port for the equipment that we have when we can have a port for equipment we don't have? Oh, so we have to buy an adapter. Got it.The adapter works great with my Mid-2010 Macbook Pro. It does exactly what it is supposed to do.Pro: Reasonably priced solution to the absence of a really necessary port on full-sized laptops.Con: The threading for the screws is set into the trim a bit. For more VGA cables this isn't an issue (and most of the time actually screwing it down isn't completely necessary) but if your VGA cable has short screws, it won't screw into the threads. Not a big deal, but it would be nice if I could make this a bit tougher. If you need it, get it. 4Great Mini DisplayPort to VGA Active Adapter I recently purchased the AMD Radeon 7850 to do some casual gaming and was notably intrigued by the AMD Eyefinity software, which can span a game across 3 or more monitors. So I bought two older monitors off of eBay for cheap that were the same size and resolution of my current one. Since the graphics card had only one DVI port to use the included DVI-VGA adapter, I had to utilize the two Mini DisplayPorts. I was not hesitant to try out this adapter when it had the best reviews and most other Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapters were almost the same price as the monitors themselves! I was not disappointed. When first taking these adapters out of their packages, I inspected the build quality and was quite pleased. The cable connections and port felt quite sturdy, and although it does not matter so much to me since it's not going to move much from the back of my desktop, this is something a laptop user would look for. Hook-up was easy since the Mini DisplayPort slipped in nicely and locked tightly in place, while the VGA end slipped on with ease and the screws fit in perfectly. The computer immediately recognized the new monitors and I was able to begin working with them immediately. Setup could not have been easier.I immediately started the AMD Eyefinity software and that was all that was needed to begin gaming across all three monitors. 4032x1024 resolution looks spectacular and these adapters work perfectly for this use. Many people have complained about off-brand adapters not delivering the best quality or have problems with the video output or even getting the monitors to recognize in the first place. That was not the case with these two. I am pleased overall with the convenience, quality, and durability of these Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapters. If I ever need computer cables or adapters again, Cable Matters will be the first place I look. 5This VGA connector works perfectly Several years ago, I bought the same or a similar VGA connector from Cable Matters. The only reason I ordered this one is because I lost the other one a couple of weeks ago. The old one worked perfectly through constant use and abuse, and so far this one is performing the same. 5It's a good product. My complaint lies mostly with the design ... It's a good product. My complaint lies mostly with the design of the Surface Pro 3, which I use this with. The Mini DisplayPort on the Surface is at the very top, and this cord, once plugged in sort of dangles and is dragged down by the adapter portion;. This makes the connection pretty fussy. Don't move around much (or any) when you use this. Have a Surface? Spring for a longer cord. This works great, it's just finicky. 4Works except for Surface Pro 4 docking station Works as specified, most of the time. Very strange, but will not work with the new Surface Pro 4 docking station. It does work with the Surface Pro 4 connecting directly to the DisplayPort on the actual tablet. Tested it on two separate docking stations. On the other hand, the "Cable Matters Mini DisplayPort to HDMI/DVI/VGA Male to Female 3-in-1 Adapter" does work on the docking station. 4The Gold Standard I bought this cable to facilitate the initial development work on my Intel NUC (model D34010WYK). I attached it to an old Proview 700P monitor that only had VGA input and I needed a way to plug it into the mini display port on the NUC. The NUC eventually moved to the living room where it attached via a HDMI cable to the TV but initially I wanted to use the Proview.Installation was literally a snap. I like the way it doesn't add any additional length to the VGA cable and how it cleanly transitions all the signals to the smaller port. The video displayed perfectly and I am very happy with the resulting image.Could I have purchased a cheaper cable? Sure, but I believe you get what you pay for. Highly recommended. 5It works Works perfectly with my Intel NUC Kit NUC6i7KYK Mini PC. Had to reboot ESXi to get it to switch display from the HDMI to the Mini DisplayPort output, but that's a one time thing, and probably because I'm not using a normal OS (e.g. Windows or Linux) that has a more robust graphics stack. Best part is this doesn't require USB power like the HDMI to VGA adapter does. 5wokrs great This cable worked perfectly and fit my needs. I had to do a group class presentation and needed a way connect my computer to the distance site to broadcast the presentation. I was unaware that there was even such a thing as the mini display port. A friend of mine told me about this and our presentation went great. If I needed to I would definatly order this again. 5Seller sent replacement when it stopped working Worked good for 5 months and then stopped working suddenly. I plug in the cable, it works for a few seconds, then the slightest movement makes it disconnected. I didn't bend it, I haven't used it very harshly whatsoever. I always paid attention when carrying it around or using it with different screens and always kept it in good condition. It still looks like new from outside but I guess the cables inside were cheap; they broke after 5 months.UPDATE on 9/14/14: Seller contacted me after my original review to send a replacement. They sent a new adapter and it works fine. Good customer support. 5
