Customer Reviews

Teryx 4 stereoI bought this and another pair of Boss 6.5 s as a cheap marine grade stereo for my UTV. I am happy with my purchase! Loud enough to enjoy music over running engine and others music once tuned with the eq. Not going to win any stereo competitions but for less than $150 it blows away the alternative options of a factory radio or aftermarket Bluetooth sound bars that are way over priced. I would purchase again! 5Best possible use for speedometer openingThis unit has been installed in my 17" open center console for about 5 weeks with no issues. It's been rained on and sprayed with a garden hose numerous times without fogging. Installation was effortless using the existing speedometer opening although wiring for my boat, which spends much of it's time with the ignition off, required a separate switch for the ignition lead. It has logged about 20 hours of hi volume output and performed flawlessly. BT pairing is simple and range is not an issue on my small boat. I've never been a fan of powering speakers from a head unit as some reviewers have done, relying instead on a stereo amplifier to drive two 6.5" speakers. I think 60x4 is a bit optimistic for a unit of this size and price and is likely the cause for the heat problem some have suffered. For a head unit well under $100 it has exceeded my expectations and looks right at home next to my analog tachometer. 5so it has only last a year. It is ...so it has only last a year. It is in covered and not exposed directly to the elements. The screen is unable to be read and there is moisture visible inside the screen. Unable to use this unit. 1It works - few quirks.Works pretty good. Installed at beginning of summer. Can't vouch for the power, because I added an amp from the start. The Bluetooth range is about 6 feet. I've gone to just using the earphone connection most of the time - produces more volume output. Occasionally it will just stop producing sound and I have to turn it off for a few minutes. Maybe a over-heating issue? Not really sure if the issue is with this unit or the amp. Overall, pretty good performer for the price. We'll see how long it lasts. 4Decent quality for the priceMy only complaints are it isn't really loud enough for when my boat is moving (17ft openbow with 3l mercruiser) it is however loud when stopped but volume cuts out before max volume. Also it does get condensation behind the screen occasionally, though does not effect the functionality. Bluetooth works great and is responsive, has connections for a subwoofer, and great eq settings.Edit: after adding a subwoofer to take the bass out of the 6.5 speakers it has become substantially louder and the volume reaches a much higher level haven't tried to Max it out yet but am still very pleased with this product. 4Very powerfull radio in a small footprint.Well I am not much of a reviewer but this time I wanted to write something about this radio. I got it very fast and since I couldn't install it immediately I decided I was going to test it at home with a speaker box I had and an external power supply. The speakers used in this test where 2 pioneer 6x9 4 way 350W speakers, and the power supply provides 13.8V at 22 amps (it doesn't draw that much current for sure). Well let me tell you that this little radio can move the speakers very well, and it is loud. I measured the sound pressure originated at 3ft with a white noise file and it measured 88db, if I put a sound track on the peak was at 90db at 3ft. Now for me that is more than enough power. Now the units gets hot in very little time when you push it near the max volume, and since the back is all sealed up, and the cover is plastic, I hope that overheating doesn't start to be a problem. Operation is very easy and BT pairing is as easy as it gets. I hope to install it on the boat soon enough and if it works as good as it did home I am sure that this is a winner. 52ND UPDATE- ALL AUDIO QUIT Update- It was a bad radioNEW UPDATE - GOT JUST ABOUT TWO WEEKS OF GOOD SOUND, WAS HAPPY WITH THE RADIO, UNTIL TODAY - PLAYING FINE , HAD SOME STATIC THEN RADIO QUIT ALL SOUND. STILL LIGHTS UP , SHOWS WHICH STATION, BUT NO SOUND AT ALL - TRIED BLUETOOTH SHOWS SONG PLAYING ON DISPLAY BUT NO SOUND AT ALSO. TRIED RESETTING ALL SETTING BUT NO SOUND OTHER THAN MINOR CRACKLE WHEN TURNED ON . SO NOW I HAVE A THREE INCH HOLE IN MY DASH, WITH A DEFECTIVE RADIO.AGAINWanted to post an update- ordered a replacement MGR350B and hooked it up to the same speakers but on "the bench " and the new radio plays GREAT. Can even you ent on the "Xbass" setting and it plays. So it turn out I got a bad radio, lesson learned to bench test before soldering and installing the right way and make sure it works. I have literally installed DOZENS of radios over the past 40+ years and have never had a problem. Now I get to do this the HARD way, either under the hood of a utv with wires cut to lenght or start completely over again and cut it all back out. This sucks, but at least I found the problem. But with a broken back and psoriatic arthritis this is really going to be painful to do under the hood. After spending all afternoon soldering and heat shrinking and making sure all connections are secure, I place it in the dash turn it on and it does play. Try to set the eq sound and any bass over 3 and half volume causes major sound distortion. Changed settings around and have found that this head unit just does not have enough output power to drive four speakers with any decent sound. Even disconnecting one pair or the other it does the same thing just with a little more volume than with four speakers connected. Any bass combined with any volume causes the sound to completely fail. I have the same speaker set up on my EZGO with a Sony head unit and it rocks no problem. The dash on Trail Wagon utv has no space to use a din radio so I had to go with a gauge style like this which fits and looks great but sounds terrible. Now after doing a professional soldered, double heat shrinked install ,all wrapped in taped secured so no branches can undo anything on a trail I'll have to go back in and cut it all back out under the dash and rewire for an amp under the dash. I had a good laugh turning on the XBass setting, this unit just said- no, with any volume over 10 it just cuts out. No power to drive speakers. At LOW volume this is a nice unit, you can get good sound.Going to put an amp in and see what happens, now that I have a three inch hole in the dash I kind of have to try to get the sound I want out of this unit. It does look good but it needs to sound good as well. I'll update after I get the amp in. Out of curiosity maybe Amazon and sent me a bad new speaker, I hooked them up on my EZGO with the Sony head unit and they played fine. I was really hoping this unit would work fine without an amp because I don't wanna add another device in the electrical system to add more draw. Maybe I got a bad radio? I see a bunch of the reviews bragging on how loud it is. 1WATER DAMAGE TO SCREENEasy to install, easy to setup and easily starts playing. Easy to swap from radio to bluetooth. Sound is decent for price, but only negative so far is that after one wash of my boat with unit installed, screen has water in display. Condensation maybe. Not happy with that but overall the price is great for what you get. If this one fails I would give it one more shot with a new one, but I am going to silicone or superglue all of the edges of my next one. 3Garbage Product, Garbage Customer ServiceGot the unit installed with an additional set of BOSS speakers. Sounded WONDERFUL in my driveway. First trip on the water the head unit failed within 3 hours of use (multiple buttons stopped working). Here's where BOSS gets you, if it's been more than 30 days they make YOU pay the shipping to get an exchange on their defective product. After a waste of time with customer service (promising they would pay for shipping , they did not) I paid $17 to ship their product back to them and have received a replacement unit. Beware of product and beware of dealing with multiple customer service agents who do not communicate with each other or review the ticket in its entirety. Terrible experience. 1KNOW THIS, BEFORE YOU BUY AND INSTALL THIS RADIO ON A BOAT, OR?????This is my 4th Boss radio in 5 years! The installation is on a boat that sits on a boat lift when not in use.Number one complaint is that the LED/LCD display will be obstructed by moisture/condensation soon after I turn on the radio. I don't think it's happening just because it's installed on my 15' boat's counsel. Other gauges don't have such condensation. Other reviewers have noted the same display condensation problem. To keep the moisture from showing up, I leave the radio always on with the volume as low as possible. That way, the radio stays warm/hot enough to get rid of the moisture and keeps it from reappearing. Of course a battery charger keeps the battery up. Problem is that with the radio on 24/7 the radio gets noticeably hot, and I think results in short life of the radio.I looked at and studied reviews on all the gauge radios on Amazon, and it looks like the they all have the display-condensation problem when installed in humid environments...and it is humid in Florida. So, because the radio is relatively cheap, compared to other gauge fit radios, I choose to put up with the frequent replacement. Another reason to keep replacing the Boss with the Boss is that the radio drives two speakers quite well at high volume setting. 1
