Customer Reviews

I was not super careful so Im taking 1-star personal credit for the ... The pins did bend on my first attempted use. I was not super careful so Im taking 1-star personal credit for the issue, otherwise I would have given 1-star. So, if you purchase this review the pin positions out of the box to ensure the are all alligned, then be VERY careful when inserting compact flash card. I do see a no-bend pin option device but it is $30, which was a little price for me. 2Oh it might work, just at the speed of frozen molasses I am disappointed in this, but I supposed that's what I get for buying something so cheap. My new laptop does not have a CF card slot, but my camera still does, so I looked at this as an alternative to using the USB cord for my camera everytime I wanted to download pictures.I took my clean card (a Sandisk Ultra II 15 mb/s 4GB) and took 2 pictures. I inserted the USB reader to let it install drivers, then plugged in the CF card. I could see my DCIM folders, and after 5 minutes could see my file names, but if I tried to click on any of them, it kept freezing Windows Photo Viewer. I waited 20 minutes for these two 3MB files to be viewable...it didn't happen. I would hate to know what the speed would be if my card was full! For anyone interested, this is on a Windows 7 machine with an i7 processor, 8 GB of RAM, and a USB 3.0 port (though I did try it in a 2.0 as well). Yes, I restarted the computer, removed and re-inserted the card and the reader. 1Does the job (amateur only, not paying attention to download speeds) I have a 10 year old DSLR that I just dug up and started using again. Couldn t remember where I put my CF card reader. This was a good cheap option for downloading several GB from my chips. I didn t measure speeds, but I found no issues.Note: my cards are also a decade old and only store 4GB each so the downloads were never going to take too long 5Don't bother Don't waste your money on this item. It lasted me less than 6 months with very light use. Someone made the comment that this reader is "backwards" and for lack of better description, I agree with them. Not sure how to explain it but the cards do not fit into the slot like you think they should. And the slot is big enough to let you put it in there the wrong way which bends the pegs. My pegs never actually bent, I was very gentle with it, but the whole plastic piece that the pins were on fell off. Not at all impressed with this product. You get what you pay for though and I continually bought the cheap card readers hoping to find one of hidden value. I could have bought three of the more expensive Lexar Dual-Slot Reader, that Amazon also sells, for as many cheap readers as I have gone through. Save yourself the frustration, spend the extra money and get something that won't break in a few uses. 1Compact, Fast, and Easy I was skeptical about this little guy because it was rather inexpensive compared to some of the similar products. However, I'm really glad I ordered it. I've used it about 5 times now and it's been great. It transfer photos very fast (much faster than hooking my camera up via USB) and there's been no errors or problems. And Windows 7 detects it right away.I especially like how tiny the device is, since I can stash it in my camera bag.UPDATE 12/23/2011:Apparently I've had this little guy for quite some time now. I still use it a couple times a month and it's held up!Only once has it caused a problem. One of the tiny pins bent and I was unable to insert my storage card. It might have been my fault; not sure. But, I was able to fix it with a tiny screwdriver in about 30 seconds. 5Works gret for my old coolpix memory cards Love my old Coolpix camera but it has a Compact Flash memory card so wanted an easy to use adapter to view and download pictures. This fit the bill. No need to find the cable and hook the camera up...just pull the card and plug it into the adapter and usb port of the computer 4It Does work, but it sucks hard! This CF reader does work, but it doesnt properly guide the CF card in correctly. I bent some of the pins on the first try and used a pair of tweezers to set them back. Finally got the card in, and it worked properly. It was cheap, so cant complain, but if your looking for something reliable, this isnt it. 2Perfect substitute for a OTC cf reader It does what it needed to do. I bought this to update the cf card on my mac mentor OTC scanner. In order to update the files you needed to use a cf reader at $40 and this item here only cost $7 to do the same thing. The downfall to this item is that it failed to give a smooth direct slide for the card. Trying to insert the card cause the pins to bend. I had to use tweezers to realign the pins and attempt to get the card in again. 3This device is useless LOW QUALITY and NOT returnable. I should have listened to the existing reviews, they were 100 % accurate! This device is a big waste of time & money. I received the device (shipped by Amazon) plugged it in and it didn't work (device not recognized). I then tried to reseat the CF card and a pin bent over. This device is useless LOW QUALITY and NOT returnable. 1Cereal box premium Construction could best be described as 'it should have been in a box of Cheerios". Also, it was dumped into a shipping box with no padding of any sort, so it just rattled around for the three days it took to get to me. I guess I should not have been surprised that it did not work. Fortunately Amazon , and not the manufacturer, stood up and refunded my purchase price. "You get what you pay for" right? - wrong in this case. It is so small, it doesn't even make a good paperweight. 1
