How to Fix Spring Problem The slipped spring problem (holder appears to have a "broken" spring)that others have mentioned is indeed poor engineering. The good news is that it is fairly easy to fix if you can use a screwdriver. The basic problem is that the post that holds the spring inside the tablet holder has a very slight slope to it, so that when the spring is stretched for a larger tablet (or 7" tablet held by the sides in landscape mode) it slips off the slick plastic of the post. Filing a small notch in the post will keep the spring from slipping off. Total repair time, about 15 min.1. NEEDED TOOLS: Phillips screwdriver, very small file (I also think a Dremel tool, or even a butter knife with a piece of fine sandpaper folded over the edge would work. Possibly also a fingernail file would work.)2. OPEN THE "BROKEN" HOLDER: Peel the top edge of the rubber pad down to expose the top 2 corner screws and the middle 2 side screws. Peel the bottom 2 corners back to expose the bottom 2 corner screws. Leave the rest of the pad stuck to the housing to make re-sticking easier. Remove all 6 screws.3. FIX THE TOO SLICK POST: The problem post is the one on the sliding piece of the holder, not the one on the fixed piece. Take your file (or whatever) and make a small notch in the post to hold the spring. You do not need a deep notch. Put the spring back on the posts and reassemble the pieces and put back the screws. Restick the pad. DONE !!Anyway, the fix is easier to do that it reads, and will be much more obvious what needs to be done after you open the holder. Unfortunate that the company is unresponsive to people that have this problem. Except for the spring/post problem, this is a well designed and built device. If it didn't have the spring problem, it deserves the 5 stars many have given it. 3Got The Job Done Bought this to hold my Samsung 10.1 Tablet which I used as a gps navigator chasing this year's solar eclipse. Installed in a 2013 Toyota Rav4. Was a little concerned when I ordered it that the height would be too short, but turned out it was perfect for what I needed it for. Really felt perfectly positioned for ease of use while driving. YES, it does shake some. Maybe 1/4- 1/2 of an inch of sway in either direction on bumpy roads. I did not find that to be a bother even once with a 10.1 inch tablet on a 5000 mile road trip, but if that's something that would irritate you, this probably is not the type of mount you want. The grips held my tablet firmly, and I never felt insecure about the tablet coming loose or falling out of the mount, but the grips do feel a little cheap and I wonder about their longevity. Had some issues on install when I stripped the nut under my seat that I initially wanted to install this with. Luckily, there was a second nut holding the seat to the frame an inch further back that I utilized to secure it with. Unfortunately, I still have to find a way to remove that ruined nut now and replace it. Definitely utilize the proper tools during install. Don't try to use a crescent to loosen the nut as it was much tighter than anticipated. Properly sized box/ring wrench for sure. 4It is what you make of it First off, I've read nearly all of the reviews about this on here. Second, this is my first Arkon product, so I have no bias to the company.This table mount is very easy to install, and there are many installation options to choose from. There is a floor mount plate, if you want a more "rigid" mount, that takes only seconds (and a screwdriver) to swap out. I chose to just loosen my seat rail bolt, slide this into place, and tighten it down. Nice and snug, and no wiggle room.The "flexible" arm is more rigid than I was expecting, which in itself is a huge plus. I didn't want to be driving down the road and have the tablet "sink" requiring constant adjustment, and it doesn't. Once you get it into position, it stays.The only "con" if you can even call it that, is that the tablet does shake a bit when traveling down the road, but why wouldn't it? It's not hard mounted onto anything, and there's only one point of contact (let's be real) supporting the tablet.The "finger" sets they send with the unit allow me to use this with my Galaxy Tab 2 (Both 10" and 7"). Once you get the fingers installed and go to insert the tablet, the mount expands to accomodate, and the tablet is held FIRMLY in place using spring pressure.All-in-all, I don't have much to say along the lines of "new persective", but as a unit, I'm very pleased with this purchase. I would recommend this over any other mount. Sure, you could go for a RAM mount, but why would you want to remove your center fascia to install a bracket? This setup allows for a much speedier installation and removal should you want to switch vehicles.As a side note, being able to remove the mount instead of popping the tablet into and out of the fingers is a big plus for me. I can pull the tablet and mount off (together) by depressing a tab on the back. I just think it's easier to pop the whole thing off, take it into work with me, and at the end of the day, slide (and lock) the mount back in place and off I go... 5Poor construction Not the articulated gooseneck construction I expected. It's a solid shaft, aluminium I think, wrapped in plastic. After about 8 months, the shaft snapped 1New life in an old truck! Mounted it in my truck, I need to go on a trip and my car wouldn't handle the drive, so I took my old truck. I mounted this on the passenger side seat bolt and then, followed the instructions, used it to old a Samsung Galaxy 10.4 tablet. It held the tablet along with the leather case without any trouble. I positioned it so I could see it, and used it as my SiriusXM radio, the Google maps as my GPS. By mounting the tablet, ti brought my old truck up-to-date with the technology that makes driving better and easer today. The base worked great, held the device, allowed me to drive and used the tablet without fumbling around. It's an excellent product. 5It does the job! I bought this to hold my iPad 2 so that I can use it for navigation in my car.The arm that bolts to the passenger seat is very stiff so it holds the iPad very securely. Also, the mounting mechanism is spring loaded on the bottom, so you insert your tablet by pressing it against the bottom two holders while pushing the top of the tablet backward. The springs ease a bit and the tablet snaps in.While in the mount the unit can shake a bit if you hit a hard bump in the road. If you drive on really bumpy roads you may find you need to use some Velcro or something to anchor the mount to keep the vibrations down, but on your typical highway-type roads where you mostly travel at high speeds, it is very stable.This is actually my second mount system from Arkon. The first one holds my phone and the mount is much smaller than the one that comes with this system. Also, the arm is much stiffer. However, both mounts will fit on either arm, so I can remove the tablet mount and replace it with the phone mount for times when I don't need the iPad.It is nice using the iPad for nav, assuming you can orient it so the sunlight isn't on the screen. 5An excellent addition to my BMW I coupled this with an iPad locking case Kensington SecureBack Security Case and Lock For iPad 4 with Retina Display, iPad 3 and iPad 2 (K67751AM) and couldn't be happier. My BMW didn't have the iDrive system, so I figured an old iPad 3 would make a good permanent fixture. After finding my passenger seat difficult to loosen the bolt, I ended up screwing this thing directly into the center console (not recommended without knowing what's under there). I lucked out and it's held tight. My ONLY complaint would be that it shakes slightly while driving but you have to understand there is a lot of weight on there. If it WEREN'T flexible, I suppose it wouldn't shake, but that's one of the best parts about this. I can easily adjust the position to move it away from a passenger's legs, or move it away from the shifter. It's also awesome how quickly I can rotate the screen to landscape and back to portrait mode.Pros:Great build qualityMultiple mounting optionsHolds iPad perfectly!Cons:Really none. If you want to fault physics, I'd complain about the slight shaking of the device, but again, that's not the fault of this product. 5Truly awesome Was a little skeptical about buying this. Wow, I was so wrong. I was afraid that it would be too flexible and not be able to stand the weight of a tablet with a case. I was certain it would sag. I purchased this to use in my patrol vehicle and have not been disappointed. I have had to drive over some rough terrain and it never budged. The neck is stiff and stays where I put it. I am simply amazed. It mounts much more solidly than I would have thought, as well. You cannot go wrong with this. It is the perfect length. It is stable, and it works. That is all I asked for and that is what I received. 5Love it I love this holder. Originally purchased for a Surface Pro but I use it for my phone 99% of the time. Unless you use both mounting options it WILL shake. I didn't not want to screw in to my the side of my console. I put mine under the seat bolt and then twisted it to seat between the side of my seat and console. This reduces the amount drastically. It doesn't shake as bad while driving but does some what when touching the phone.I would and have bought again. 4easy to install but one little downside I REALLY LIKE THIS HOLDER. I traveled for 10 hours using it and i got to extensively use it.Installation was super easy, pop the seat bolt out and put in the provided hardware and voila. EasyThe material feels solid except for the plastic holder its self , feels cheap but so as do most of these holders.This holder is highly customizable and has many sizes and shape and is bound to fit whatever tablet you want.I absolutely love the fact that it does not scratch my tablet no matter what maneuver i perform .The downside it that it wobble no matter how much you tighten the bolt, simple laws of physics is all . 4
