Customer Reviews

PE6U2 good surge protector (500V Protection Rating), convenient USB charging, and often on sale for ~$10 -- a great deal APC 6-Outlet Surge Protector 1080 Joules with USB Charger Ports, SurgeArrest (PE6U2)I Purchased two on 2017-11 for $9.88 each, and purchased one more on 2018-02 for a net price of $10.87 after coupon. This has a 500 Volt Voltage Protection Rating (VPR) across all 3 pair of conductors (Line to Neutral, Line to Ground, Neutral to Ground). That's not as good as the best 400 V rating I've seen on other surge protectors, but still good (I've seen 600 and 800 V ratings also! Lower is better). There is no sticker on the back indicating it's been independently tested to comply with UL 1449, so I assume it's just designed to the 500 V level per UL 1449. On the back of the box it says "APC recommends using the let-through voltage (ANSI C62.41) to determine a surge suppressor's performance." I concur! Let-through voltage was renamed VPR in the 3rd edition of UL 1449 (Sept 2009). I agree that a low let-through or VPR voltage is more important than a very high Joule rating for a surge suppressor, but unfortunately the current marketing trend for this and other models is to not advertise the VPR.6' cord with low-profile, right angle plug is good. 1080 Joules is plenty IMHO. Lifetime warranty. Made in China.I've used the USB charging ports fairly regularly for 5 months now with no problems. I usually charge 1 smartphone at a time, or occasionally a tablet.Very satisfied with the product. A good deal especially if/when the price dips to $10! Deducted 1 star for not advertising the 500 V protection rating, and apparent lack of independent lab testing to verify the UL1449 rating. 45 Star Hit by lightning this afternoon. Lost the surround sound receiver, dvd (Blu-ray is fine) wifi router, cable modem, and one of my in-channel equalizers on the custom-built speakers. And two dollar store surge protectors.Everything connected to these APC surge protectors survived.I could be looking at replacing laptops, printers, TV's ... my daughter's Yamaha electric piano ...Hella good product. I'm proud of ya APC. You saved me THOUSANDS of dollars.Signed,Rural Georgia 5One Star After 2 months the USB ports are dead. Now for some crazy reason amazon is being a bunch d bags and not accepting returns past 30 days. THis is BS even amazon 3rd party sellers have a better return policy than amazon themselves. So now I m loosing $16. I m so pissed at this 1USB ports don't work My fault for not fully testing this when I first bought it, but about a month or so after purchase, I plugged my cell phone into the USB port to charge it. I didn't work. I tested a couple of other items and determined there is no power to either USB port. Too late to return it now. The regular electrical outlets do seem to work, but I really wanted something with USB ports also, I guess I will have to toss this and try another brand and hope it is of better quality. 1Cheap and well made This is a solid surge protector by a very well known company for such items. You really cant go wrong with the price. The cord is heavy duty with a flat style plug that comes out to the right side when in an outlet. This works out perfectly if you want to put something against the wall. The plug is not in the way and the bottom plug is still useful. The unit overall feels solid. The USB plugs work great too. I am very happy with this product. 5Nice Unit & Low-Cost, But Faulty Ground Light Indicator I purchased five APC PE76W (white) and PE76 (black) 7-outlet surge protectors to replace old ones that I no longer trusted. (I have seen recommendations to replace them every year or two.) There is a lot I like about the PE76 and PE76W. The extended/offset plug at the end allows for a good-sized power brick (aka wall wart) to be plugged in without obstructing the other outlets. The flat, 90-degree plug allows the unit to be plugged in behind bookcases and tall drawers. The cord is long and appears to be high quality. The issue I have with these is that on all five of them, the ground light began to flicker or just go out completely. (I have uploaded a video showing what the issue is.) Some started doing this fairly quickly; others took a month or two to start having the issue. I have tested the circuit with a circuit tester (both in the wall and in the surge protector), and the circuit is fine. These units have a lifetime warranty, but I don't think getting a replacement would help nor do I think there is an issue worth pursuing. To be fair, I have had one other surge protector with flickering LEDs, and it was not an APC brand. That was a while ago, and most have not had the ground light start to flicker or go out, so I believe this is a manufacturing issue. Personally, I'm not worried about the ground, but I could see where it might worry others.** Update on 10/11/2017 **On the unit I happened to use in the video below, the protection LED is now intermittent as well. Since surge protectors don't "heal" themselves, it's obviously just an issue with the light and not the power protection. The thing is, I can't trust that to always be the case, so I threw it out and replaced it with Tripp Lite 10 Outlet Surge Protector Power Strip Tel/Modem 8ft Cord 2395 Joules (TLP1008TEL). I liked the old one's smaller size, but what good is it if I can't rely on it? 1Didn't protect my stuff when I had my first power ... Didn't protect my stuff when I had my first power surge, APC won't respond about their equipment replacement policy, just have a dead power strip. Would not recommend 1Otherwise it seems great so far The cord comes out of the plug at a weird angle. Wish I'd known this before purchase-- the placement of my outlets requires that the cord run to the left. Otherwise it seems great so far. 4two big benefits Great color scheme, but what really makes this shine is:1) flat plug so that it lies flat against the wall and the cabinet2) cable is flexible, NOT rigid! this is great because then your surge protector stays in place and your cable can be routed without hassle. 5high quality and features you can't find in other similar price ranged surge protectors Not all surge protectors are created equal, especially when comparing within similar price range. This is by far the best surge protector for its price range hands down!WHAT I LIKE (compared to my other Belkin surge protector):[+] Nicely and securely packaged in a box[+] The build and quality feels solid and sturdy[+] 6 foot cord that seems more flexible and manageable if you don't need the entire length[+] Flat 90 degree space saving plug[+] 1 dedicated outlet for adapter block or bulky electronic plug[+] Keyholes on the back for wall mounting option!!![+] A peace of mindWHAT I DON'T LIKE[-] As mentioned by other reviewers, the ground light seems to be faulty but this is not a deal breaker for me as long as the protection light works[-] It would have been a nice touch to add 1 or 2 USB outlet but that would probably drive up the price point so this is not a deal breaker for me eitherI don't know why but it's so hard to find surge protector strip with keyholes in the back now. I remember back in the days when all power strips came with keyholes in the back so that you have the option to mount on a wall or secure against something so that it doesn't move when you plug and unplug from the strip outlets.Grant it this APC surge protector is $3 more expensive than the compared Belkin model but you get whole lot more features and better quality for that price difference, but the biggest difference is the peace of mind.BOTTOM LINE:5 out of 5 stars. Highly recommended. 5
