Customer Reviews

Works. Amplified OTA antenna signal now viewable in 5 rooms. Not as inexpensive as one may hope, but it does work. We cut the cord a number of months ago and have an expensive amplified outdoor antenna in a rural area. It supports 4 tvs with a simple splitter. But, things were far from plug and play ... just switch the cable line to the antenna and your whole house enjoys free tv now. Nope. Our cable signal came in the basement and was amplified and split in the basement and the attic with variable gain amps. OTA. Going top down, everything was out of balance, bottom up, same thing. The only option was to test every section of line with a small tv. Countless hours of trial and error later, especially when tv stations come and go from one day to another due to inclement weather ... I wondered if our signal was too strong coming out of our existing variable amps. Figured I would try this 8-way splitter with just a bit of boost. ( less boost than the four way, which I figured was like my variable amps )Things were better but still issues on some lines ... long story short. The upgrade many years ago to quad shield RG-6U throughout the house was producing too strong / clean a signal. I added 25-50ft of line in some ... all stations became clear. For one I went back tot he old RG59. Bingo. So yes, one absolutely can use this amplified splitter with the OTA signal from an amplified antenna. Contrary to what some say, it works.I just wish there was a signal meter device to show where a level is at low-ok-high on any given line, because I was suffering from too strong a signal in part of my setup and not one that was too weak.PS: I did use a set of caps on the unused ports. 5Perfect Signal Works great signal comes through now perfectly splits 5 TV signals with 3 terminated. 5Helped a lot. Very sturdy. Helped a lot. This splitter really helped. It is very sturdy and well built.I decided to try and cut the cord. For years I had cable, and then I switched to directv. My directv bill averaged $98 per month and really all I watched were the ESPN s and the network channels. I decided to cut the cord. I have AT&T Internet so WatchESPN streams on my Roku and AppleTV s at home perfectly. I thought that if I could get the network channels then I could cancel Directv. The problem is, I am located about 50 miles from the broadcast tower and 2 of the 4 network channels are broadcast in VHF while the remaining channels are UHF. This would mean that I would need 2 antennas. So I went to antennasdirect.com and began researching.2 websites that were a huge help were http://www.antennapoint.com and http://www.tvfool.comBoth websites have data on the closest television towers at your address. They show the frequencies and the direction in relation to your home. Over the air (OTA) television is directional meaning you antenna must be aimed at the tower broadcasting the channels you plan to pick up. (Especially the further you are from the broadcast tower).I decided to order 2 antennas. UHF and VHF.VHF antenna (Clearstream 5 I highly recommend. It works great): https://www.antennasdirect.com/store/vhf.htmlUHF antenna (DB8e This antenna worked wonderfully as well): https://www.antennasdirect.com/store/DB8e-Ultra-Long-Range-Outdoor-DTV-Antenna.htmlThe clearstream came with a VHF/UHF antenna combiner. So I used the combiner to combine the two antennas. A combiner is nothing more than a splitter used backwards from what I could gather.I intended on splitting my signal to 4 different televisions. Everything I read said that when you run long runs of coax cable, the television signal is diminished drastically. So, I purchased a pre-amp and a powered 4-way splitter.Pre-Amp: http://www.amazon.com/Winegard-LNA-200-Boost-Digital-Preamplifier/dp/B00DQN3R9O/ref=pd_sim_e_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=0NDCZXJGZZ8ZK1PEMR6P4-way splitter: http://www.amazon.com/Antennas-Direct-CDA4-Distribution-Amplifier/dp/B0082ZJNW6/ref=pd_sim_e_6?ie=UTF8&refRID=0NDCZXJGZZ8ZK1PEMR6PI decided I would install my antennas in the attic. I felt like I would get more life out of the cables, antennas, and splitters if they were out of the elements. I wasn t sure if the signal strength would be strong enough but I thought I would try it, and if it didn t work then I could mount onto the roof.I installed the antennas in the attic and hoped I wouldn t need the pre-amp or the powered splitter. The first thing I did was hook up a regular 4-way splitter and ran a channel search. All the desired channels came in, but the signal strength was too low and there was a lot of buffering. I decided to hook up the powered 4-way splitter and that increased the signal strength a bunch but still it was in the 65-70% range and that was not what I wanted. I then hooked up the pre-amp and boom! I had a 90% or more signal strength on all channels.I also made sure to use only RG6 coax cable and cut the cables to be as short as possible. Here are the RG6 cable tools I purchased.Cutter and stripper: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0099DIV4G/ref=sr_ph?ie=UTF8&qid=1420732747&sr=1&keywords=RG6+cable+toolsCable end compression tool: http://www.amazon.com/RG59-Connector-Waterproof-Connectors-Crimping/dp/B0050N0S36/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1420732747&sr=8-8&keywords=RG6+cable+toolsCable ends: http://www.amazon.com/PCT-TRS-6-Universal-Coaxial-Compression-Connector/dp/B00760VRCM/ref=pd_bxgy_hi_img_yI also used two mounts in the attic. They worked great. Here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WOVD1Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1That s it that is all you need to get free OTA television. I was able to receive all the channels available in my market. WMAB 2/WMAE 12 (x.1 PBS/MPB, x.2 PBS HD, x.3 Create) WCBI (4.1 CBS, 4.2 MNTV, 4.3 The CW) W07BN-D (IND/TBN) WTVA (9.1 NBC, 9.2 ABC) W25AD (TBN) WLOV (27.1 Fox, 27.2 Me-TV, 27.3 This TV) W34DV/W39CA (UBN) WEPH (49.1 CTN)The best part of all this, was calling Directv and canceling my service. 5Not a cure all It is clear from my reading of other reviews that many people don't understand what this product does and how it is used.Receiving (or not receiving) a particular station is the sum total of:AntennaAntenna placementThe quality of your receiver (your TV)The quality of your cableThe length of your cableand all devices and connectors between the TV and the antenna. This amplifier addresses mostly only one problem. It is designed to compensate for the reduction in signal strength that happens as the signal travels through the cable. The longer the cable, the more loss you have. You will also have loss as you go through couplers and splitters. The JUICE captures the signal at the antenna before any losses occur and boosts it to compensate for the expected losses down the line.If the signal is no good at the antenna, boosting it will not make it better. It is possible it might make a bit of difference on a marginal signal sent to a poor receiver. If you paid $400 for a no-name big screen TV, chances are that TV's tuner is not the greatest. It is also possible to have too strong a signal. In experimenting, I found that the JUICE made things worse (on my TV) if the cable length was less than 50 feet and no splitter in line.If you have more than 100 feet of cable and don't get all the stations you want, you definitely want an amplifier, and this is a good one. If your cable run is less than 50 feet, I would try other things first, like a bigger, better antenna. The JUICE got me more stations and I'm happy with my purchase, but unless you have a long cable run, you can't count on it helping you get that elusive station. Every installation is different and sometimes you just have to use trial and error to find out what works. 4Got HOT fast; made in China, powered through coax cable This product is powered through a coax cable. It is made in China. It is not UL approved. It is made of metal, however, the back seems to be sealed on with white glue or caulk. It got VERY hot VERY quickly - within minutes. I am concerned that it will overheat and start a fire.It did not seem to amplify the ONE outgoing cable I had hooked up.It is being returned. 1Why spend money on this? I live in between Austin & San Antonio. I bought a ClearStream 2V from Amazon without price checking, paying 10 bucks more than I should, and it does an OK job passively, set about 15 feet off ground in a good location outside. Passively, with one of my test HDTV's hooked directly to the cable feed at 60 feet away [coax run] I could get all the major networks ok, with PBS's station group the weakest. Passively, though, that one looked fine. I have the antenna set correctly using a good compass. Using the CDA4 with the intent of running through the same wiring as Spectrum Cable is using, I get nothing. Nada. No channels strong enough to pass the threshold of the Sony Bravia and Samsung HDTVs. Doing a test to make sure the CDA4 was even functioning, using a 5 foot piece of straight coax end-to-end, it selectively dropped the whole PBS grouping. The others were ok. No better. So what is the point? The cable distance from my crossconnect area to the 2 main sets we like to use is about 20 and 30 feet respectively. The Spectrum/TWC cable setup is using no channel amplifiers inside the house, just a plain vanilla splitter to serve those 2 boxes. So, it is a fail. Nice little mechanical package that subtracts value. I am still "on the fence" about the Antenna. It looks like the RCA or another choice may have been better. 1LONG DISTANCE BRIDGE I live in North Florida halfway between Tallahassee and Jacksonville,Florida. We can't get ground cable where I live. I'm trying to cut back on my television bill so I put up a 33 foot Outdoor Antenna. I used RG11 Coaxial Cable, a Pre-Amplifier at the Antenna ( A ClearStream 4V Antenna ) and this 4 Port Distribution Amplifier to 3 televisions and one radio.. Results. I can pick up 17 Stations. ( And this is without rotating the Antenna at all. It is simply pointed South.) Among some of the stations are MeTV, Charge, COMET, ME11, ABC,CBS,NBC, 3 different Florida PBS stations , multiple Georgia PBS stations, FOX out of Jacksonville, FOX out of Orlando. ( 150 miles away.) The picture that is on my HDTV is I believe nicer than what I receive from Satellite broadcasts. Very happy with the results. My radio now picks up so many stations that I ran out of PreSelects.. And they are ALL clear. I live in a very rural setting on ten acres surrounded by 9 and 1/2 acres of Pine and Oak Trees.. So I am very surprised i could pick up this many stations. When my contract with the Satellite company ends I may not renew with them. The distance from the Antenna to the fartherest TV has a run of about 110 feet. Hope the particulars help with your endeavors. 5Failed in Less than a Year But Great Customer Service I've got two of these, one purchased from Amazon.com and the other directly from AntennasDirect.com. Both are installed in the attic to boost the signal from a Clearstream2 and a Clearstream4 antenna. Before buying, I confirmed with an AntennasDirect tech that attic heat wouldn't be a problem. Each one failed after less than a year of use.Performance was very good until they failed. I live in a rural location and can only receive a couple of channels without a signal booster. With the JUICE installed, I received 7 local TV stations with all of their digital sub-channels. In fact, I received so many that I deleted some so I don't have to wade through so many when changing channels.Although both failures occurred outside the warranty period, I contacted AntennasDirect.com to see if they would stand behind the product. I'm happy to say that they did. For the unit I purchased directly from them, they offered a full refund. For the one purchased on Amazon.com, they offered a replacement. I accepted both offers. (I accepted the refund on one unit because I've already replaced it with a PCT unit -- see below.)The Antennas Direct customer service rep answered all of my questions about the failure of these two units. He said that most failures they've experienced with signal amps are due to static charge, although he commented that it is less likely in an attic installation. He also said that they haven't seen a high rate of failure for the JUICE units for any reason.Due to the excellent customer service from Antennas Direct, I can't knock the JUICE units. Their Clearstream antennas have worked well for me too.I replaced both Juice amplifiers with the PCT PCT-MA2-2P, which services 2 TVs. So far, so good. The PCT support staff assured me that attic heat won't affect their unit. I'll post a review for it on their Amazon product page. The total cost of the PCT unit plus the required accessories (power inserter, 75 ohm terminal resistor) was about $30. 2-Port Bi-Directional Cable TV HDTV Amplifier Splitter Signal Booster with Passive Return PathI'm worried now that if static discharge destroyed the JUICE units, my PCT amp may not last long either. I'll update this review if this turns out to be the case. 4A great product Let's start off I recently decided to cut my cable. I installed a brand-new antenna antenna which was receiving approximately 12 channels would get 13 on a nice day with with the addition of the juice I am now getting 39 channels yes some of the channels I don't need but the ones that were barely coming in are now coming in the great. This is not a fix all if you're not receiving any channels but can help if you have a decent signal to begin with. I am using this on a roof antenna it has been great so far today. I am approximately 56 miles from the station tower.Update 10-9-16With a little fine tuning and movement of antenna I went from 39 to 58. It has strengthened my weak channels and has been great.I cut my cable company out. 5Fabulous Tech Support Customer service from Antennas Direct is outstanding!!!!!! After installing my antenna I could not get signals to the furthest TVs (2) while the closest had only partial channels. That is why I bought the distribution amplifier. After installing the dist. amp, I still couldn't get signals, although when hooking up one cable branch at a time I had all channels. After calling the tech support, I learned that I had been installing something wrong and actually didn't need the dist. amp in the first place. Now all channels play great and I am returning the item. However, just based on their tech support, I would always recommend this company!!! Thanks DA!!!!!!!! 5
