Customer Reviews

Looking good doesn't have to be air restrictive I'm usually skeptical about a product here on Amazon without any reviews. So here's my story. We're replacing all the ducts, duct work, furnace and AC in our newly purchased house. We're also laying down some laminate wood flooring in "Truffle" color, which looks very nice. We're trying to stick with a oil-rubbed bronze theme on most things.Of course I had to look around and find some nice registers to match and compliment the floors and all the bronze. There's a lot of other registers out there, most of them are made by Decor Grades, and those have a lot of reviews and most are positive. But the negative reviews I've noticed were the ones about excessive noise when air comes on. And the reason is simple, it's the actual grades design, which most decorative register manufacturers are using. The square hole pattern that blocks half of your registers opening even when it's fully open...would you buy a water faucet that only allows half of the water pressure to pour when fully opened? Didn't think so. So that right there didn't make sense to me. All I knew was, I got to find fancy registers that my wife will like but with the old fashion 2 blade design that just swivels open and shut.I've talked to the HVAC guys that are installing our whole system about what registers to get, first thing to come from one of them was "hopefully you're not planning to get these fancy looking registers that block half of your airflow?"By that time I already done my research and found these Accord registers. It was hard to tell from the Amazon picture what closing mechanism these registers have, but I saw a glimpse of the blades and got pretty excited that I found exactly what I was looking for! Wen't to Accord's web site and examined their pictures that are a bit lighter and easier to see which confirmed my previous belief.I ordered one to make sure it's a quality product that will stand to trials of time and of course to make sure it looks good.First impression when I opened the package was "wow, these are a lot nicer looking than the Amazon picture". The oil rubbed metal really stands out and looks good, especially when some sunlight hits it (or I guess any source of bright light). The top part is metal and feels durable and sturdy for that thickness. The bottom part and closing mechanism are plastic (I hoped they'd be metal as well, but for this price point you can't really expect a full cast iron register or even full steel one, can you? I'm OK with it). Closes tight, opens wide and will let 99% of the air to get through and that's the main thing to look for when looking for a good looking register that also is high efficiency. We haven't had our furnace or AC on full speed on yet to test for noise when register is completely or semi closed. But I will update here shortly as we're about to finish that project. This Accord register looks good, feels good and will be a lot more efficient than any of those square slider registers out there. I'm getting these for the rest of the house.Pardon the dust on the photos as we live in a construction zone at the moment.Hope this helps someone make their decision. Enjoy 5Great look, but low price compromises the quality In my last home, I spent around $75 for similar-looking floor registers from an online retailer, and since I have an entirely new house to upgrade now, I thought I'd give these a try; five for the price of one sounded like a good idea. When I got these, the difference in quality was striking but not surprising. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for.If you prefer to fiddle around with the airflow, you should probably pass on these; the adjustable plastic air directors that sit unseen inside the vent are extremely flimsy, so much so that I broke the hinge the very first time I tried to adjust it. The decorative metal grate is somewhat thin, but no one is really going to notice that after it's installed. It looks great in the floor, and it takes all of ten seconds to do the swap if you buy the right size. All of that being said, I do actually recommend these if you just run your registers wide open at all times like I do and don't feel like spending a lot of money on a more premium item. I'll likely buy more for the rest of the house. 4Looks nice, but don't seem very durable Looks nice, but don't like the fact that our vacuum cleaner snags the open/close lever all the time, and that the lever and vent louver itself is plastic ... which means at some point it will break. The metal face is pretty thin, so I doubt these things will stand up to having people step on them (not likely, but it could happen). Appearance gets an 'A', quality of construction is a 'C'. 3Very nice indeed! Nicer looking than I pictured from the Amazon write-up. The color is pleasingly neutral, and I like the design a lot. I know that some people object to the plastic box underneath the grate, fearing that it won't hold up to extended use. That may be. But plastic box is a poor conductor of heat so it doesn't get warm when the heat is on or cold when the air conddtioning is on -- it just allows the air to pass through without leaching any of it out. I am very pleased. 5This floor register looks awesome, and for the price they are a much ... This floor register looks awesome, and for the price they are a much better deal then shopping at one of the big box home-improvement stores. The portion of the register that you actually see is made of metal however the directional fins and siding are made of plastic. For the price I do not have a problem with this just be careful when installing as they are not as durable as the metal builders grade registers you are likely taking out.As for durability I've stood on them a few times and I weigh around 185 pounds. My only gripe is that the spacing in the register design allows you to see the bright pink ducting delivering the air. Closing the register a bit helps to fix that problem, but that may not work for everyone . 4Beautiful, good value I agree with those who say that the product is better than the photos on Amazon. The registers are truly beautiful and appear well made. The vent louvers work well, in contrast to what some reviews have stated. The mechanism is not silky smooth, but adusting the plastic louvers is no problem. Also, the knurled knob for the louvers only protrudes about 2 mm (less than 1/10 of an inch) above the register, and I do not see it as a hazard or prone to breakage (unless the register is in a high foot traffic area). I've only just installed them, but I'm thrilled with the purchase and look forward to enjoying them for quite some time. I'll be buying more for the rest of the house. 5Great for looks. Bad for quality. This floor register looks fantastic in my bathroom. I also have this brand but a larger size in my living room. As for looks, it deserves a five star rating. I am giving it 3 stars because of quality. It has been in the bathroom for over a month now. The upper decorative plate looks good, but it is of a easily scratchable thin metal. Thankfully it is in a low traffic area, however I dropped some jeans on it that had bling on the back pockets. Unexpectedly, the plastic bling left scratch marks on the plate. The moveable vents on the bottom are of a thin, flimsy plastic. It looks good, but to move them, I have to pull the entire register out of the floor and move both vent flaps at the same time manually. Sometimes when I pull the register out of the floor, the top plate completely comes off the bottom plastic vents. It is easy to put back on, but it screams cheap to me. The cheap plastic lever on the top of the register does not work to adjust the vents. As a matter of fact, I believe that if I use the lever, I will not only shred my finger skin as it is sharp, but it would also break the plastic on the register.I bought an Allen + Roth brand of floor register that looks exactly like this at Lowes. It cost almost double what the Accord brand cost, but it seems more sturdy and the plastic lever actually moves the vent flaps easily. I am very pleased with the Allen + Roth brand register. The bottom of it is plastic like the Accord brand, however it is of a higher quality plastic.Deciding whether to purchase this brand depends on how much wear and tear it needs to hold up for. If it is in a low traffic area and won't be adjusted often, then it is probably a good purchase. I definitely do not recommend it be placed in a child's bedroom. The Accord vent in the living room was ran over with a metal toy shopping cart and scratched pretty bad. The old solid metal ones we had held up great, but these look so much better. For the price, I think these could be made of a better qualit 3Very nice vent I really live this vent, I had bought one like this when we did our bathroom, and I am doing my bedroom now and had to get another one, but a different design, it goes with almost any decor, it won't crack if you step on it. My vent register came quick, but one of the slats on the bottom was cracked off, but customer service was amazing! I got a refund, no need to send back, which is always a pain! I would buy from them again, it's just one of those things that happen, the box was not dented or anything, so must have gotten by someone, cause I didn't realize it was cracked until I slid the lever to open up the slats and it just fell off and could see it was cracked, that part of the vent is plastic, the other part it very sturdy. 5Don't put it where it could get stepped on. I was thrilled when my Charleston Floor Register arrived, but then looking at the 'dial' to open and close the damper my heart sank; the 'dial' or 'adjuster' or whatever it's called that operates the damper was way above grate level and I thought I was going to have a problem as it's in the hall and you can guarantee someone will step on it thus rendering it useless. Others I have are strategically placed just below the plate and they're wheels that are easily rolled to adjust air flow. Sure enough the first person through the door, turns to go up the stairs and steps on it. It is now level the the top of the register, but tough to adjust! I guess I won't be needing to adjust that one in the future.Make sure when buying this item, that it's placed well away from foot tread......Otherwise, it looks gorgeous and performs well. Definitely worth the money on looks alone. 3Great for looks. Bad for quality. This floor register looks fantastic in my bathroom. I also have this brand but a larger size in my living room.
