worked for us I needed a floor grate for a large opening.. 18x24" return air. This previously had one of the old old school wooden ones made out of little blocks of wood. It was destroyed by a tenant so we had to find something to replace it with. Of course at this size nothing was available in town. I was afraid I was going to need to go to a fabricator to have one built. But I found this online. I was a little concerned about durability/sturdiness since it was for a large opening and I saw from prior reviews that some people had problems. So before my husband put it in place, he put a 2x4 in across the middle as bracing to help distribute the load. We have had no problems with it but the true telling will be in 5-10 years and how it holding up then. 5Garbage This is advertised as a floor grate. it is not. Why? I took one step onto the grate and it fell apart almost breaking my leg in the process. Because I ordered it several months before I installed it, I am stuck with a pile of metal trash. I went to Shoemaker Manufacturing and bought a real floor grate. Yes, it cost more, but it works! Unless you are using this as art on a wall, I would not buy it. Amazon if you are listening, activate my refund, please. 1Not only are they not heavy duty, they don't even survive shipping! The first vent cover I ordered was broken upon arrival. I went through the return process and the second cover that came was broken just like the first. The corners on the frame are very poorly spot welded and the frame comes apart very easily. 1Not sturdy enough for power wheelchair. EDIT: Unfortunately, I have to revise my previous opinion. These held up for a few months and then began breaking under the weight of a power wheelchair. I had purchased an extra and when I used that one to replace a broken grille, it only lasted a WEEK. They also need to be deeper. If you use it on a carpeted area and happen to catch it with your shoe it can come right out.I don't know who decides to put mobile home floor vents in high traffic areas but whoever designed our ductwork should be slapped. There are FIVE vents that I need to reinforce where my husband rolls through regularly, so trying different ones gets costly.The mobile home parts stores I've called have been spectacularly UN-helpful in finding a solution. I'll probably have to find some cast iron ones, or see if a local welder can reinforce the cheap ones for me. 1Just what I needed I replaced an existing vent in my recently-purchased house with this in hopes that it would make less unsettling noises when my Roomba passed over it. Which, I'm happy to report, has worked out. The Roomba used to make an awful clattering noise going over the old vent and I always worried that it was going to break something. This one has slightly smaller holes and the edges are just a bit less sharp, the result is barely any sound at all.The material and build quality seem good, I don't anticipate any issues. I feel safe walking on it and I'm an average-size adult man.Thanks very much to the manufacturer for making this thing - this size is very hard to find at all, and of the few that are available, most of them either have screw holes (not necessary or even usable in my application) or are unbelievably expensive - I saw some in the $250-$300 range. This one's even a good color for where I installed it at.The installation was quite an adventure, but none of it was the fault of this product. Whoever had installed the previous one had put it right next to the wall so that the edge of the vent is actually in conflict with the baseboard. The result was that one edge of the old vent was pressed down to the floor (they had forcefully jammed it under the baseboard even though it didn't really want to sit that way), and the other edge was lifted off the floor about 1/4" - which also contributed to the Roomba's clattering. So I had to use a Dremel to carefully gouge out a 4-5 inch stretch of the bottom of the baseboard (and the drywall behind it) so that this could slide in to place without resistance. Additionally, they didn't cut the tile straight on one end of the hole, so there was a bit of floor getting in the way, and this vent wouldn't go in all the way at first. I had to go buy a tile bit for the Dremel to cut it straight. The dimensions seem to be identical between the two vents, so I'm not sure how they got the old one in there. Based on the quality of the rest of their work, I'm guessing they just hit it with a mallet until it went in. I think it says something when a first-time homeowner who's never done anything similar before does a better job... :) 5This grate is not weight bearing like advertised This product is advertised as a heavy floor grate that can be walked on. This is not true. I set it into place, it looked really nice, put one foot on it and my foot went straight through it. I will be sending it back. Completely false advertising, don't buy this if you plan on walking on it. 1Inproper Packing...3 TIMES!!! So frustrated. Ordered this three times because of deadline to finish repairing apartment already on lease....and all three damaged. Huge box with one piece of paper as packing material. After this photo I tried moving it to the garage to pack back up and it literally fell apart. I had to open the box twice because I found more pieces after taping the box up. Should have went with the cheaper priced and maybe better quality. I would have received it by now. Now I have the dilemma of trying a fourth time that seems futile. So now I have to order the other hoping they can expedite and it comes intact. Wish they had a "0" rating..... 1Great predator-proof vent cover for chicken coop! We needed to add more ventilation to my chicken coop and needed something heavy duty to keep out predators and also something that I could cover up easily if the extra ventilation wasn't needed. This grille is perfect for that purpose (it's actually the second one I bought for the same purpose), and it is helping keep the humidity down in the coop. The slots in the grille are small enough to keep out any unwanted chicken thieves and there is no way they can chew through it without losing teeth. As described, the vent is heavy duty and well made, and the pricing was fair. I can also cover up the vent using one of those magnetic vent covers. Speedy shipping as well. Thank you! 5Fits the hole, mostly Well, we had wooden gray on the floor, but the floor isn't the best place to put wooden grates, because over time they dry out and crack and go bust. What was weird was how hard this was to find in terms of descriptions. We were even calling around to local Home Depots trying to describe what we needed and no one seemed to have it. Perhaps I need to update my houses HVAC system. No matter. found this on amazon and it worked. Only knock being that it's a little loose in the hole but you can't be beggars, can you? 4Poor quality control on this item. I ordered this product and needed it fast for a house going on the market. I tell you I needed it fast only to clarify why I did not contact the company or return the product. We had a big hole in the floor and could not show the house without the vent in place. The product arrived quickly, but somewhat defective. The horizontal grates are bowed at one end. It gives it a wavy appearance instead of the straight horizontal and vertical lines it should have. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and hope that all their product doesn t look like this. 2
